The 2011 Frankfurt motor show saw Volkswagen bring not one, but six different concepts of their small hatchback. Apart from having an exclamation tagged to its name, the Up! looks like it’s going to add another ‘first time ever’ to its portfolio.
The Up! Buggy is set to be the first mass production buggy after news emerged that VW has successfully received a patent for its design and is now planning to conduct a feasibility study of a possible niche market for the vehicle.
By definition, a buggy is ‘a small motor vehicle, typically with an open top’, and the Up! Buggy stays loyal to this description. Based on the Up! hatchback, the buggy gets rid of the rear seats and hatchback, and replaces it with a luggage rack on an open boot. Sticking to the stripped down theme, the buggy may also flaunt a strapped down reclining fabric roof to flaunt its beach appeal.
Mechanical details or features list for the concept are not carved in stone yet, but it looks like it is more than likely that the Up! Buggy concept will not confine itself to sheet of paper. Having said that, it is highly improbable you will see one parked next to a shack in Goa any time soon.
