Maruti Suzuki has launched a limited edition of the Swift called the RS. The Swift RS enhancement package is priced at Rs 24,500 and features cosmetic changes both on the inside and outside. It is available on the VXi and VDi variants of the hatchback.
The Swift RS has been fitted with a 3-piece body kit that includes front and rear bumpers as well as a a roof spoiler. The body of the Swift RS has specifically designed black and blue motorsport inspired graphics. For the first time, black wheel covers are being introduced in the Swift RS. The outside rear view mirrors have also been painted in blue.
The interiors of the Swift RS, has been trimmed in art leather black and blue colour combinations. The floor mats carry forward the rally RS theme. This special edition of Swift comes fitted with a CD player, AUX-in and USB facility. The Swift RS is also equipped with an illuminated Swift emblem at the sill on all four doors.
The engine line up remains the same as the standard car; a 1.2-litre petrol mill that produces 86PS and 114Nm of torque as well as a 1.3-litre oil burner that produces 75PS and 190Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a five-speed manual across both engines.
Maruti Suzuki generally launches limited edition vehicles when the sales of a model begins to drop drastically and for the Swift, one of its top three selling models, to get a limited edition mean that sales have likley to have really taken a nose dive. It is also likley that with Ford EcoSport getting such competitive price that sits right in the Swift territory, the Indo-Japanese automaker wants to ensure that good numbers of the hatchback continue to sell. On a lighter note, we can also consider the fact that the Swift RS is about as close as we will get to the actual Swift Sport.
