Ford’s latest foray into the Indian market with its urban crossover the EcoSport has surprised one and all with its cutting edge pricing strategy. With the size and stance of the car, it rivals two stalwarts of the Indian market that have created similar furore before, Renault’s Duster and the Maruti’s Ertiga, both registering record sales. The EcoSport is poised to break all those records with their spot on product and pricing strategies.
Now let us see how the EcoSport performs head to head against the Ertiga and the Duster. We are comparing the Ecosport TDCi Titanium top-spec with the Ertiga VDi and the Duster RxE 85 PS. The Duster is the largest of the three followed by the Ertiga and the Ecosport. While both the Ecosport and the Duster are five seaters, the Ertiga is a seven-seater (MPV) with the last row good enough for kids. The overall interior space in the Duster is better than the EcoSport but almost on par with the Ertiga.
The engine specifications and fuel economy are more or less similar where the EcoSport fares marginally better than the Ertiga followed by the Duster. The EcoSport is also available with an automatic transmission for the petrol variant.
The top-end EcoSport diesel is available at this price point and comes loads with features, while the other two are lower trims so a few features are missing. The safety features on the EcoSport include the SYNC, EcoAssist in addition to the four airbags and ABS. The Duster does not offer ABS or airbags for this variant whereas the Ertiga offers only ABS. The EcoSport has aggressive looks with a tall-boy stance of an urban SUV while the Duster sports classic SUV lines with a squatted stance. The Ertiga has standard MPV looks with design theme inspired from the Ritz.
But these are just three of the many models in the entry-level UV segment. The others include the new Chevrolet Enjoy, Nissan Evalia and Mahindra Quanto. Check the below link for detailed comparison of the above cars and also to research EcoSport with other models.
