Successor to Lamborghini Gallardo spied; likely to be called the Carbrera

Just yesterday, we brought you a report that provided all the details on the successor to the Lamborghini Gallardo. The report also said that a concept version of the car will be unveiled at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show and that a final production version will go on sale in the middle of next year. Now, we have our first glimpse of the vehicle testing on what is believed to be a racing facility somewhere in Europe. 

Cloaked in camouflage, the Carbrera, as it is currently known, resembles a cross between the current Gallardo and the Italian supercar major’s flagship battle cruiser, the Aventador, leaning more towards the latter. At the back, there seems to be a more rounded design, however, it is likely that the covers are hiding the proper shape of the rear end. 

This model is longer, wider, larger and is expected to see Lamborghini move away from the carbon fibre monocoque that it used for the Aventador hypercar. It will now shift to parent company Audi’s modular spaceframe technology. This is believed to be in a bid to allow both vehicles to share components and thus allow their development to run in parallel.

Power for this new car will come courtesy of a reworked naturally aspirated 5.2-litre V10 petrol mill. It is expected to produce 600PS and 542Nm of torque. Power will be transmitted to all four-wheels via a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual clutch automatic. 

The Lamborghini Gallardo is the Italian automaker’s most successful model to date and has sold over 10, 000 units since it was launched in 2004. We hope that the new car is just as exciting as the many 50th anniversary concept cars that we have been seeing over the last months.
