Porsche 911 set to celebrate its golden jubilee with a limited edition Carrera S

The Stuttgart based manufacturer has announced its plan to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the 911 badge with the launch of a limited edition 911 based on the current Carrera S model. Porsche plan to roll out exclusive model at the 2013 Frankfurt motor show scheduled for September – 50 years after the original 911 debuted at the same event.

The anniversary edition, Porsche says houses a rear-wheel-drive setup under the wider body used for the all-wheel-drive Carrera 4 and 4S models, which is driven by a 3.8-liter flat-six churning out 430 bhp with the Powerkit package. It is expected to hit 100kph in 4.2 seconds with the seven-speed manual transmission, or 3.8 seconds with the optional dual-clutch PDK. Porsche plan to make only 1,963 units of these limited edition variant - a number coinciding with the year the car was first launched.

The flamboyance is not confined to under the hood alone. This 911 will flash a unique 20-inch wheels that pay homage to the original Fuchs rollers of the 1963 car, and special badging at the rear and on the door sills. Inside, there are more throwbacks to the original 911, with green labeling on the instruments, white pointer needles, silver accents and the leather seats feature a fabric insert reminiscent from the '60s.

The tribute edition model is available for order as of now in darker graphite grey and lighter geyser grey. The first deliveries are scheduled to start in December this year with a basic retail price in India of Rs 1.72 crore.
