The 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W222) been revealed. While the exteriors have been snapped by the team at WorldCarFans, pictures of the interiors have been officially released by Mercedes-Benz. Dieter Zetsche, chairman of Daimler AG had already confirmed earlier this month that they will be launching the 2014 S-Class in Hamburg on May 15.
The 2014 S-Class retains all the signature lines of the outgoing car but has some new features as well as design elements that give it a new and fresh look. On the front, the 2014 S-Class gets a larger grille, full LED headlights and a re-profiled bumper which is also expected to LED fog-lamps like the outgoing model.
The side profile remains pretty much same but has lost the flared wheel arches. At the back the 2014 car has got a re-profiled boot which by the look of it has become slightly smaller while the dual exhaust outlets have become bigger. However, we suspect that the car in the picture is the standard wheel base version. The long wheel base version is likely to get a larger boot. The lights are now full LEDs and the rear bumper has become more round in shape. The car in the picture has got a two-tone paint job and has been fitted with a sun-roof.
On the inside, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class has been completely revamped from the previous car. It now features two large colour displays in the front in place of the traditional instrument cluster some of the buttons. A rich mixture of leather, wood and high quality plastics adorns the cabin giving it the feeling of a small palace on wheels.
The cabin now gets LED ambient lights, two-spoke wooden steering wheel and a high-quality Burmester music system and heated and adjustable rear seats. Optional extras include an individually customisable ‘first class rear’ business package, heated armrests as well as a specialised air balance package which filters the air in the cabin and sprays a special scent branded by Mercedes themselves.
The S-Class has always been a pioneer in introducing new technologies and this new one is no less. It features active seat belts as well as the three pointed stars pre-safe technology. It also features a technology called Magic Body Control which uses a camera to detect pot-holes and bumps on the road. It automatically adjusts the suspension to compensate for the road imperfection.
Mercedes-Benz has not released details about the engines, but we believe that they will use improved and updated versions of the same petrol and diesel mills as before. This list is also expected to include two AMG spec mills.
Mercedes-Benz will unveil the car on May 15 and it is expected to go into production within the next few months. Since India is one of the locations where the car is assembled we are sure to get it just a short while after its global launch.
