The Lamborghini Urus SUV will make its debut in 2016 and is expected to begin production by 2017 confirmed Rupert Stadler, chairman of Audi AG recently. The Urus SUV concept was unveiled at Beijing Auto Show exactly a year ago and was the Italian supercar maker’s entry into the luxury SUV market.
The Lamborghini Urus is based on the same MLB platform that will the next generation Audi Q7, Volkswagen Touraeg and the Porsche Cayenne. The next generation platform will make use of lightweight materials which include a mixture of aluminium and steel. It is also believed that Audi will introduce the use of new types of carbon fibres to manufacture some of the components in an attempt to make them light yet equally strong.
The Urus concept vehicle has been fitted with permanent four-wheel drive and is powered by a 600bhp V8 engine, but the size of the engine has not been disclosed and we believe that this will continue for the production model also. We suspect it will be a small capacity mill with a turbocharger to comply with tightening emission norms.
