Mercedes-Benz is on its biggest product offensive till date. The Three-Pointed Star has completely revised its product portfolio with new-generation models, newly introduced products and mid-life updates. In the third quarter reports, the German carmaker has listed the proposed models and almost most of them are India-bound. So let us have a detailed look at the new product portfolio expected from Mercedes-Benz in India that will happen next year.
1. New-gen GLE-Class
Mercedes-Benz revealed the new-gen GLE-Class last month with a new design language, rejigged powerplant and a host of new-age driving aids. The imposing character of the GLE new has been retained with the overall profile, but under the skin, it has a new platform which helped it grow in dimension. Even the cabin is taken straight from the S-Class.
2. Updated GLC-Class
The GLC is surprisingly the highest selling model in Mercedes-Benz India’s portfolio. A mid-life update is underway and will be revealed early next year before making its way to India in late-2019. Moreover, Mercedes-Benz India will become a global manufacturing centre for the German carmaker and the India-made GLC will be exported to the American market.
3. New-gen A-Class
The hatchback of the Mercedes line-up entered a new generation in February this year with new looks and added feature list. The hatchback enters into its fourth generation now. According to the carmaker, it is so mature that it has features which are available in the S-Class but in a smaller package.
4. A-Class Sedan
For the first time, Mercedes has introduced an A-Class sedan which is positioned below the CLA-Class. The A-Sedan competes against the likes of the Audi A3 sedan and the BMW 1-Series sedan. It is spacious and practical compared to the hatchback. But the A-sedan was only proposed for the Chinese market and the Indian debut is under contemplation.
5. New-gen B-Class
The third generation Mercedes-Benz B-Class was unveiled at the 2018 Paris Motor Show. It’s a completely new model and is expected to make its way to India by the end of next year in both petrol and diesel guise. The previous B-Class wasn’t able to find many buyers and Mercedes might want to change that with the new one.
6. New-gen CLA-Class
The new-gen CLA-Class is yet to be officially revealed globally. But there are rumours that Mercedes India might either bring in the new CLA to India or simply replace it with the all-new A-sedan. The new CLA will take its cue from the bigger CLS-Class and will be joined by a Shooting Brake version as well.
7. All-new GLB-Class
Mercedes has listed an ‘eight compact car’ in the report. We assume that this would be the all-new GLB-Class which will be a boxy crossover and come as a successor to the GLK. It will have the practicality and ease of the B-Class combined with the ruggedness usually associated with the mighty G-Wagon.
8. All-new Mercedes-AMG GT 4-door Coupe
The AMG performance division decided to make a practical version of the AMG GT sports car, lo and behold, we have the AMG GT 4-door Coupe. Essentially, the same car underneath, but as the name suggests it has four doors. And along with the maniacal 63AMG guise, it is also available with a more ‘practical’ 43AMG engine.
9. New-gen GLS-Class
The granddaddy of the Mercedes’ SUV line-up will enter into a new generation to rival the recently revealed BMW X7. Being the SUV equivalent of the S-Class, we know the GLS will have the same level of opulence on the inside as the Luxo-barge with all the latest autonomous driving aids Mercedes has on offer.
10. New-gen CLS-Class
The CLS has always been a stylish alternative to the E- and S-Class thanks to its gorgeous silhouette and feature loaded cabin. In its newest avatar, the CLS debuts the new design language while retaining its authentic ‘four-door coupe’ lines. It will rival against the likes of Porsche Panamera and BMW 6 Series GT in India.
