BMW is on a roll with a complete overhauling of their product portfolio. The Bavarian carmaker has already introduced new generation models, mid-life updates and all-new products this year. And nearly all of them will be coming to India next year. So here are some 10 India-bound BMWs that we could expect to see zipping down our streets in 2019.
1. New-gen 3 Series (G20):
The rejigged portfolio will be spearheaded by the new G20 3 Series which broke cover at the recent Paris Motor Show. The 3 Series is an important product for BMW in India and the new one is lighter, bigger and more powerful than the old F30 and so much better looking as well.
2. New-gen X5 (G05):
The fourth-gen X5 retains its subtle looks but owing to the new platform it is now more capable than before. The Mercedes-Benz GLE rival gets an updated cabin with Live Cockpit Professional, newly designed gear-selector lever and 21-inch alloy wheels for the first time. BMW has also added an optional Off-Road package to the G05 X5.
3. All-new 8 Series Coupe (G15):
BMW resurrected the iconic 8 Series moniker with the new flagship coupe. The 8 Coupe introduces new design language and is powered by a 4.4-litre V8 producing 530bhp and 750Nm. There’s also a diesel with a 3.0-litre straight-six motor producing 320bhp and 680Nm. And the new 8 is a looker as well.
4. New-gen X4 (G02):
After the short-lived first-gen, BMW introduced the new-gen X4 earlier this year. And unlike the first gen, the second gen G02 X4 is India-bound. The coupe-SUV will rival the GLC43 AMG in India and will be a stylish alternative to the plain Jane X3. Pricing is expected to be around Rs 50-55 lakhs.
5. New-gen Z4 (G29):
Co-developed with the resurrected Toyota Supra, the new-gen Z4 Roadster uses a soft-top folding roof and a driver-focused cabin. The characteristic Kidney grille gets a new mesh design and behind it sits a 3.0-litre straight-six pushing out 335bhp/450Nm. Its 0-100kmph time is 4.6 seconds and the electric soft-top can be opened/closed in 10 seconds.
6. Facelifted X1:
The BMW X1 will be getting a mid-life update and test vehicles of this facelifted model were also spotted in Germany recently. BMW will update the face as well as the rear end. But major changes will come on the inside, with added features which will trickle down from the more expensive models.
7. All-new X2 (F39):
BMW has a coupe-version of the X1, and as the nomenclature goes, called the X2. However, compared to the simple looking X1, the X2 is funkier and has a sporty stance, thanks to its flared wheel arches and quirky styling. Expect it to be slightly more expensive than the X1 if and when it comes to India.
8. All-new i8 Roadster:
Although BMW showcased the all-new i8 Roadster at the Auto Expo in Delhi earlier this year, we are still awaiting its official launch in the country. The i8 Roadster is the third member of the ‘i’ family and second in India. It will be priced at least another Rs 40 lakhs over the standard car.
9. M2 Coupe:
The most anticipated M product for India is the Baby M2. The M2 is powered by the residues of the M3/M4 which means it has the same turbocharged 3.0-litre straight-six motor producing 404bhp and 550Nm. It is expected to be priced around Rs 80 lakhs to take on the Mercedes-AMG CLA45 and Jaguar F-Type.
10. All-new X7 (G07)
Last but not least, the all-new X7 flagship SUV will make its way to India as a rival to the Mercedes-Benz GLS. It is a behemoth measuring 5,150mm in length and standing 1,805mm tall. The first-ever seven-seater BMW has four engine options and all the luxuries seen in the 7 Series. It is likely to be priced between Rs 90-95 lakhs.
