Maruti Suzuki Wagon R 1.0 [2014-2019] User Reviews

Basically I am a die hard fan of Wagon R. Some people may not like this review. Ultimately at the end you can judge whether it is genuine or not.

We see some people preserving some cars like Maruti 800, Ambassador even after 20 years of their usage as an antique piece and in remembrance of their elders. In our current generation this is one of that kind.

Wagon R Vxi fulfils all the needs( Power steering,4 power windows, Inbuilt audio system etc:) at this price range of Rs.5 lakhs.

When ever we buy an automobile or electronic gadget we need to see what value it carries after few years of usage. Apart from usage of this car for years togrther you still get the minimum resale value(if at all you have an intention to sell) as it is next to Maruti Suzuki SWIFT models in seconds car sale in India.

The drive feel is too good as the space is huge for driver's operating area which even most of the high cost premium cars lack.

The height of the car is highly comfortable to get in and get out. When you become older in age then you can understand the importance of it.

You hardly feel tired even after driving more than 300 kms continuously.

5 people can comfortably travel.

Of course being a small car the boot space may sometimes seem to be limited.

Without any hesitation if you are from a middle class family and have no intentions of changing the car for at least 10 years please go for it. Repeated investment on automotives and electronics for a middle class person is huge loss because of their rupee value depreciation.

Ignore negative reviews: They are individual specific and moslty their cars might have been driven badly by inexperienced drivers or multiple drivers which makes any engine to fall in to worst condition.

Do not give too much priority for exterior cosmetics. No car till the price range of 10 lakhs can beat the interior comfort of Wagon R. Comfort of 10 lakhs at a price of 5 lakhs. Its a double bonanza.

One more good part of this car is its low cost maintainance. Over all its a budget car for middle calss mates.

Areas of improvement Make ABS and AIR bags which are for safety as mandatory features even at the low end models. Manufactures must  not encash on safety.Even though if the prices are high have less variation.

In other countires all these features will be there even in the low end models.

If you want you can always encash on comforts like in build audio, power windows Automatic transmission etc:

The dealer's staff are not so confident in detailing about CNG and AMT versions. Please do the needful to train them.

Exterior Exterior looks promising as WagonR is mainly for people who need a very spacious car in average budget. People say that its boxy, but we wont get enough space if the design is not like this. The new front grill looks stylish and gives a sporty look. The roof rails along with crystal clear lamps add more beauty to the exterior.

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Interior is very pleasant which include beage and black combination. The inbuilt music system is a good one with 4 door speakers. Remote control for music system is missing. But you can easily get it from a NIPPON dealer which will cost you around Rs.800 to Rs 950. Two cupholders are present in dashboard which can be opened by pressing it. There is a hidden luggage box/basket under the front passenger seat. The space between front seats are less which may sometimes cause the driver to touch the co-passneger while shifting gear. Other than this interior space is too good and comfortable for long journeys.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Engine is very smooth and silent. You may notice a lag at the begining if the AC is powered on. Engine is sporty after the rpm hits more than 3000 (with AC). Gear shift is very smooth and clutch operation is very light. Fuel economy is the best when compared to cars in other segment. Even the car is big, you will get a fuel effiecieny of 20Km/Litre(Only if you maintain average speed like 60-75km/hr and right gear shift). I have been getting more than 19 KM/L in highways and 16KM/L till now (18000 Kms completed so far).

Ride Quality & Handling Ride quality is good along with handling. I havent faced any issues so far.

Final Words A good choice for a family whos planning to have a maintanence free car with peace of mind. Just make sure to service the car as per recommendation in service booklet and you wont face any difficulty. Go for it and you wont regret. 

Note: This car is not for people whos is looking for great performance or pickup which is available in high end cars.

Areas of improvement The plastic quality needs to be improved. Sporty antenna same as of Swift instead of old model. Much more boot space is required.

Exterior New improved dynamic side view is eye catching, I like big side view as compaire to front.

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Better boot space,3 persons can easily accomodate, one of my friend says"oh it is a 10' by 10' room".

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox fe is good,gives 19+ on highways and 15+ in city.(city avg. changes according to wheather u r driving in the heart of the city or around the city or outside it.) gearshiftinging problem while first & reverse.

Ride Quality & Handling Novice person can easily manage it in city, required less maintainance,some time gives vibrasion  in 2 nd gear.

Final Words Between 4-4.5 lakhs it's best choice, necessary and nearly all features r given in vxi model. Best way go fr vxi as compare to lxi.

Areas of improvement Should be 5 to 7 cm more wider, height is ok but may decrease 4 to 5 cm for budgetary perpose.(it's my personal opinion), parcel tray should be strong enough.music system should be dvd compatible.

Exterior:

Exterior Look and Style are good. Roof Rails, Rear Spoilers, Blue eyes, etc... give premium look for a hatch in this class

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort):

 Dual tone interior gives it a premium look. Interior Space is appreciable for a hatch back of this size. Driver seating position is amazing compared to any hatch or sedan in below 10L range

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox

 The proven K10 Engine is excellent in its performance. Its maintenance cost is low. I have done 7500km now. The Engine power is not upto the mark compared to the previous 1.1L Engine.Gear box is also amazing with the new cable shift mechanism. The main area of disappointment is its milege. I am getting only 11-12 km/l in city and 16-18 km/l in highways. overall I am getting around 14km/l with AC, which is a disappointing figure.

Ride Quality & Handling

 Ride Quality is good. It is very easy to handle and safe to drive around the corners. Despite its height it gives a feel of better handling in curves. Driver seating position is a plus in a small car like this. Wide open door facilitates easy ingress and egress. Even old aged people can easily get into the car

Final Words

 It is a very good family car, which can be taken for long drives as well as city drives.

 Milege should be improved.

I have brought a new car VXI model on this independence day. This is my first car so I can't compare this car with the others. The riding & handling quality of the car is better & so the driving experience. Also it gives me better fuel economy @ 18-19 KMPL. So, I think one should definitely go for WagonR if the Budget is around 4-5 lacs.Space, handling,lookso far i didn't faced any drawback of the car.

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Best interior of all the hatchbacks, power windows are good, centrally locking system is good, the one security system is the best part i think is because this all features generally comes in asedan or some costly car, also electric OVRM are good, this gives u the llok of a some sort of luxurious car and if anyone prefer this car is due to its interior.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Engine perfomance is the drawback of this car. There is some sort of sound constantly coming from engine and pick up of car is not as the old one. Gearbox is ok. Also fuel efficiency with the ac on is comparatively less so and this is all due to three valve engine due to which problem occurs.

Ride Quality & Handling Handling is also not good, contant vibrations are coming when speed is above 90 kmh.

Final Words U can go for this car, but if u can find some better altenative than obviously choose that.

Areas of improvement Engine, pickup, Handling, Old wagonR engine was better than the new one, Engine noise should be reduced.

Comfortable Interior and exteriorpick up as specially with AC on

I bought my Wagon R Vxi model car in June 2013 and so far used it for 4000+ kms.

Exterior Exterior look is good when compare to the previous model. 

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) It has enough space both in front and back seats. Maruti increased these space by reducing the luggage space. If we are not going to use it with more luggages then it wont be an big issue. The only negative point I noticed is, removing the spare wheet from its place is not an easy task for the user. If you want to remove it from its place, you need to fight with it for sometime to get success.

This incovenience should be rectified by Maruti to enable easy removal of spare wheel. This can be done by slightly reducing the thickness of the rod at the top end of the tyre. This will solve this problem.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Overall performance is good. As mentioned by many users here, I too felt the gear struck issue for reverse gear. I dont understand why maruti is not fixing this issue even after it is reported by many custromers in their review.

Ride Quality & Handling Ride is really smooth and handling the car is easy.

Final Words Nice car for a small family that too in decent price.

Areas of improvement  

1) Space wheel removal issue to be fixed.

2) Reverse gear struck issue to be fixed.

Performace, SpaceNothing specific

Exterior Good shape and size. widh adequate for driving through small road.visibility when  a person crossing through front is poor ie the front arch obstrect view from right side of the driver.

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Good seat and leg space. good seating. door opening 90 degree so good for aged persons good leg space for back and frontt. good dash board.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Fuel economy is good .Engine performance at flat road is good but when driving at highway not up to the mark. overtaking becomes difficult sudden incraseo of speed with ac on is not good. pulling with a.c on is very poor. it  becomes a real problem when overtaking and climbing a mountain road.

Ride Quality & Handling Good. Handling good. gear shift not so smooth sometimes.

Final Words Good car for city driving. For long driving not so good.

Areas of improvement Needs a good economic but  powerfull engine.

After going through a lot of research I decided to go ahead purchasing the car for it's sheer practicality. Though a lot of people may not like the car for it's boxy look and tall boy stance.As compared to it's peers like Hyundai i10, Chevrolet Spark and Tata Indica eV2 what mattered most in my buying decision was it's huge popularity and a robust after sales service by Maruti. My buying experience was very pleasant and easy. I got the car as I wished and ordered. I have completed 50000 kms and the card still performs new. I like the high seating posture of the car while driving. I am 5 feet 5 inch tall and I have no problem with the seating behind the driving wheel though the car does not come with height adjust driver seat. Though I feel the car lacks peppyness with AC on while overtaking in the highways. But the car behaves very well in the two digit speed limit and feels pretty planted. Though at higher speed the steering feels liveless and become too light. The car is not suitable for high speed driving. I have spent average Rs 3000-4000 annually for servicing.Just recently after driving 45000 kms I have changed all the four tyres by phases.The car have never given me any trouble. I had to change few things like one door handle and rear wiper during this period. All the equipments are still pretty working. Though recently my front door window auto down function is giving some trouble. The AC is working properly. In my opinion the pros of the car is its space, fuel economy, easy maintenance and high driving position. The cons of the car is its average driving dynamics and flimsy build quality.
