Maruti Suzuki Swift [2011-2014] User Reviews

Exterior When the Swift came to India in 2004 it was a sensation. The curvy yet sharp features of the exterior combined with the lighting technology used in the tail lamps gave it a upper hand in the mid segment car market.

However, the Swift that is in production now has lost its edge over the other mid segment cars (Like the VW Polo, Honda Brio, Hyundai i20). Nevertheless the Swift’s exterior still manages to turn heads with its sweptback headlamps and broad stance. The indicators on the ORVMs too add a zing and account for safety while shifting lanes or taking turns. One odd thing was the height of the tailgate; it would make loading and unloading luggage a little bit of a task. Apart from that, gotta love the looks!

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) The swift interiors are very impressive. The dashboard quality is amazing, something you would notice in a high end Honda. My favorite feature is the little cup holder for the passenger seats, which is nicely tucked into the dash, when you press it the cup holder slides out with perfect ease. I initially found the driver’s seat unusually high but after 50 kilometers, I wouldn’t have it any other way. The back seats provide great thigh support something other cars in this segment struggle to offer. Lots of little cubbyholes everywhere to store things, little depression right above the glove box (along the width) is good for keeping cellphones or wallets. There is a nice small storage space next to the steering on the right, perfect for those big screen phones. The boot space is good too.

Another favorite is the instrumental cluster! It shows instant fuel consumption, average fuel consumption and range. The instant fuel consumption helps me to drive in an economical manner! However, the trip meter and fuel information buttons are very hard to operate even though they are located in the cluster. Height adjustable feature for the headlights come handy when you are climbs steep inclines or when your boot is heavy, the lights respond quickly to the change.

Engine Performance & Fuel Economy Ah! I am so glad my family purchased the petrol swift and not the diesel. Though the diesel clocks more kilometers per liter, it didn’t make sense for us, as we need it only for city use. The petrol engine is so much smoother than the diesel one, and almost with zero noise. When I drove it out of the showroom I wasn’t sure if it was running or no! Fuel economy so far has been decent, 13kmpl in the city with A/C according to the very helpful fuel meter, but I have managed to keep the instant consumption over 25kmpl as much as possible.

Ride Quality & Handling Ride quality is great, with very little cabin noise. Though at speeds above 70kmph you might hear a noise from the tires. The breaking feels pretty good, though I have read many reviews that claim it needs improvement. The steering is a boom in the city and my guess is that the Swift has one of the smallest turning radii in its segment, when you take a U-turn it so happens that more often not the Swift is hugging the median! However, it’s too light for a highway and might need a little getting used to.

Final Words If you’re buying the swift for a second car or for city use, buy the petrol! Pollutes less, feels less like a tractor!

Areas of improvement The knobs of the trip and fuel meters could be placed on the right of the steering instead of on the instrument cluster.

Quality of interiors, Steering,Annoying to operate trip meter switch

Swift performance is very good mailage is very good compare to other cars. Smooth condition for engine. This car looking ausome Servicing is very good and maintenance is low compare to other cars

Exterior Absolutely fantastic. No car can beat this. I loved the rear and frontal view of the car. Specially blue color with metallic is amazing. It gives you a feeling of a sport car

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) i havent seen old swift's interior but i know the interior is top notch. the quality and finishing is amazing. Just you will need to take care more for this. the gear box and and new display looks amazing. however the seat is little low and you will have to take care while driving in crowded road. it has to increase or give that option. Seats are amazing. roof looks cool. dashboard beautiful. 

i firmly believe that vxi/vdi should have integrated music system. Thats the one and only thing which i feel missing. 

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Engine performance - so far good, just drove few hundred kms. Grear box...pretty neat.

Ride Quality & Handling I do not think any car really match upto the swift when it comes to ride and handling and experience. I rode almost all the cars in this segment and realized swift is way ahead in this game. Absolutely nice. patholes are nothing anymore. you feel like you are sitting in some luxurious car

Final Words Go for it. even if you have to wait for like 6 months. I waited 7 months and believe me wait is all worth. You will know when you will get it. 

Areas of improvement Waiting period and audio system needs to be there. Also it will be good if we have seat height adjustment. 

Ride, handling, interior, looks, design almost everythingvxi dont have music system :-(

Exterior Swift has one of the best exterior styling, Really love the way the New swift is shaped, and the front agressie styling is really a feel good factor 

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Front seating comfort is excellent, no hatch matches it, the plastic quality is somethign maruti really needs to work on as compared to the Korean and the german competitors..

I have fitted the Nippon music system, similar to one on ZXi, really love the waterfall console effect i have on my VXi

adding cubby holes would have really helped, door bottle holder are good along woth the cup holder on the dash 

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Engine is a bit of laggard on the lower revs.... but roars soon past 1800 rpms, trully swift

Fuel economy on my petro not that great, getting around 11 city driving with 100% Ac driving but was expecting 12.

Gearbox is what u trulyyy call Makhhann.. reall smooth gearbox.

Ride Quality & Handling Takes odd potholes and bad roads well, but we need to understand its not the prob with vehicle Indian roads are to be balmed.

Final Words Those who care for their car the Swift is truly a nice car, but Suspension and engine would take the toll thanks to the bad roads & negligent driving.

It surely is an enthusiasts car.

Areas of improvement Please please improve the Plastics and give it a bigger boot... is all my wishlist about.

THOSE FACING BRAKE PROBLEMS. PLEASE ESCALATE IT TO MARUTI AND HAVE UR BRAKE BOOSTER CALIBARATED. IT TRULY IS A SERIOUS ISSUE WHICH IS ADDRESSED TO BY MARUTI.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox If you want the car to give good fuel economy, this is not the car. I have a swift vxi purchased in July 2013, giving me less than 10 kmpl.  

Ride Quality & Handling Good.

Final Words Good car, no doubt.  But it is a failure in fuel economy. What is the point if you dont get at least 14kmpl on city roads?  I spent nearly Rs. 40000 (around 500 litres  aprox) on petrol since purchase and I could run only around 4000 KM!!!!  I took it to the service centre but they could not do anything. It is simply awful  !! Can I get a replacement of my car? I cannot keep spending money on petrol at this rate.

Areas of improvement  Fuel economy need to improve significantly. There is no fog removing system at the rear glass like you have in Esteem. The Music system should be standard feature.

appearancemileage is between 9 to10 kmpl. on city roads.

Exterior Looks superb. Nice but color options are limted, not worth wait for such a long waiting period.

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Missing music system, rear defogger missing, rear wiper, seat height adjustment.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Engine very nice best pickup, fuel economy city 12. 14kmpl and highway 16--17. But if you drive at 50 to 60 km per hour u get 20kmpl. That s quite impossible to drive at that speed at highway, gear box not as smooth as hyundai but good.

Ride Quality & Handling Ride quality good handling nice.

Final Words Not VFM, but good options like  grand i 10 and i 20 are there.

Areas of improvement Music system rear wiper rear defogger a must. both features are available in car like wagnor which is around 1 lakh cheaper then swift. Thats why swift sale drooping day by day. Company must provide these feature in swift vxi.
