Exterior
Exterior of the new swift is stylish.. with the sparkling colours and alloy wheels..But the frog like look still reminds us that it was inspired from a two wheeler.. a saga of drunken dream from the suzuki chief engineer on the hayabusa.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort)
The length of 3850 and width of 1600 mm is so misutilized that it feels so cramped inside the vehicle when 5 medium sized people are seated. The automatic climate control is just for name sake.. it doesn't function well in hot exterior conditions especially when the drives are longer.
When the same is reported to the maruti dealer, he admitted that few new vehicles have the issue but it will get sorted out after few more hundreds of kms (I didnt' get this logic till now). The full black interiors are now seeming to be boring..
The driver seat is commanding and gives excellent visibility.. to the front.. but back tracking is a pain.. rear visibility is a product of the crap design..
The braking (WITH ABS,EBD, AND BRAKE ASSIST) is superb.. but available only in full option..without this, the brakes are somewhat like manual..
Clutch is very hard.. can cause knee pain in city traffic. But gets adjusted quickly due to high torque..
Distance to empty, avg fuel consumption are handy features.. but only in full option.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox
Good engine response, torque but engine requires to be taken care of like a baby.
Even the petrol Kseries should be maintained promptly else u end up paying huge bills at the service centre. NO WONDER MARUTI GIVES JUST 40000/2YRS WARRANTY.
They can't even think of offering more with this aluminium finished engine. Its not the rally engine that the swift actually has in India. Its just an aluminium based ion finished engine which lasts just 1st 1 or 2 years in stock condition.
Ride Quality & Handling
Superb ride quality in the first 3000 kms..after which the issues might show up.
Handling is also good.. but the suspension takes out all the fun if some bumpy road comes up.
The still super tight and rally based Mc Pherson Strut makes sure that the rear seat passengers are thrown up and down mercilessly..BEWARE.. this also starts after few thousand kilometers..
Final Words
No wonder this car is no where else welcomed other than the Indian subcontinent because it WAS a value for money in those days when first it was launched..Its time to look for better performing and fuel efficient value for money competitors. Try the Toyota Etios Liva, Ford figo, Mahindra Verito Vibe and VW Polo. The 2013 Liva is the best value for money and balanced hatch in the current market.
Areas of improvement
Suspension, Rear seat comfort, space, engine build quality, fuel efficiency.. even though it claims 15, it gives just 11/12 on the road.
Exterior styling is great.. drive is OK.Fuel economy, space, comfort, engine durability, old fashion interiors, rear seat is good for pets.
