I've driven this car on and off for past three years. It was the most practical choice when it was launched and is still a sensible car to own and run if you have one.

Swift looked great when it was new but with cars with Eurpean styling (read: copy from bmw philosophy) on road, like the i20, it looks too dated.

On the performance side, the Fiat diesel engine churns tremendous power once you cross 1500 RPM - not that the car does not deliver before that - even at very low rpms, it can push itself really well from zero. However the problem is what happens to the car 'all of a sudden' at 1500ish - the transition is so unrefined that the new driver for a moment feels the car has a life of its own. The car, unfortunately, often gives a sense of lack of control. Even while stopping, the braking distance is not as predictable as it should be because the engine keeps delivering power (so it appears) even when your foot is off the accelerator.

It's a great highway machine and you can cruise at 150 kmph in it with respectable stability and good fuel economy. Also, such high speeds are quickly attainable with the powerful engine.

From a driver's perspective, I don't like the visibility swifts offer when you are inside, you feel too enclosed and on turns there are blind corners near the beam. Not good..

The swift has crisp gears, light steering, small turn radius and great fuel economy but it's bulky, dated looking, and unrefinedly-powered. This is not the car to be purchased in 2009.

Great fuel economyUneven performance, dated looks

      Exterior

Exteriors are cool and stylish. Its western looks are cool.

      Interior (Features, Space & Comfort)

Good compfort for 4 persons rear leg space is less but its ok, features are user friendly. Plastic quality is very good if compared with any tata car its way ahead in interior quality.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox

Engine is best with minimum noise and maximum performance, m fan of its pick up, gearbox is sporty and highly responding. best fuel economy any one can ask with this sheer pickup, m getting 18kmpl with 100%AC after 50k kms of drive in just 14 months with speed of 100+, u should not ask for more. Even in hilly areas it gave 17kmpl

      Ride Quality & Handling

Ride quality is good its zipy on the road power steering is quite responding and good control on road.

      Final Words

A Must buy. If you love driving u must be behind 1300cc swift engine u ll definately agree with my post.

      Areas of improvement

Interiors must be improved and rear leg space need to be increased slightly..

Awesome Pick up, excelent milage, low noice, minimum mentainance, neighbour's envy

Swift is a car which is like a very good boy who always listens to his dad. The driver can manipulate this car like anything and it will obey to all your commands. You will hardly find a car with so much control and steadyness yet so high torque!!! Its like you are draging at 20 km/hr in very congested area suddenly you found a long empty gap infront of you and all the hondas, scorpios honking at you from the back...man put it to second gear and press it, you will suddenly find youself in a peaceful land with the music flowing your ear and cool wind blowing from the ac will make you fresh and active for the hard days work ahead in your office.

Best car for regular self driven office goers with a huge work pressure. The home to office and back will be a welcome break no matter  how much congested is your driveway.

Speed, control, style and comfortsmall boot and low front bumper.

I got my VDi APMW color on 4th of March 08. So far I covered about 550m Kms. I drove at a speed of 60-80 KMs. The mileage is good 15-16 in the city with A/c 95%. I didnt get a chance to drive in the highway. Waiting for the first service. Overall good performance. The stock tyres are useless. Not happy with the brake also. Took the delivery from Rana Motors, Delhi But the service advisor is a person who do not know anything about the diesel segmnet. I ahve asked about the run -in period. He said Sir you drive at any speed 100 or 140 no problem. Secondly I asked about premium fuel, he said you fill any fuel. If someone knows about all these kindly tell me.Good FE, Comfort, styleStock Tyres, rattling sound, no leg room for the rear passenger.

I got the car delivered from Popular Maruti. The very purpose of getting a car was that i need to travel for a very long distance. on an average abt 100 to 150 Kms every day. I took the car delivered on 18th Jun 2008 and i gave it for the 1st service the very next week. i mean the 1st free service. Amazing vehicle. i never expected my car would give me a mileage of about 20kmpl.
for the 1st time i checked it before service it was only 17kmpl. but after the 1st service. i started noticing that... on an average i had 20 kmpl..
      like it was
      698Km for 34.44 lts.
      710Km for 34.5 lts
      702 Km for 35 lts
      671 Km for 34.22 lts
      722 km for 35.2 lts.
and today my car is gone for its second free service.
I do have an Accent CRDi
But i feel the AC of swift Vdi is more powerful than Accent CRDi.
The best car to be used in chennai roads.

i had a lodsa choices b4 i could go for swift Vdi

i thought of gettin Santro, then i10, then WagonR, then Estilo, then thought of gettin Scorpio. but finally found swift to be more suitable for my usage.

Thank you Maruti... and i should thank Mr. Prabakaran( Sales, Popular, Maruti, Anna Nagar) for helping me to go for the right choice.

Excellent Fuel Economy, Fentastic Pick upProblem with the Road Clearance but will be alrite as we get used to it.

      Hi All SWIFT fans,

I bought my SWIFT VDI 10 months back and its already displaying 20000 kms on the odo....

I commute around 50 km daily with regular drives on weekends.  Just cant get over the drive feel.

My Dad always asks me to give the car a break and let it rest for a while...but I always get tempeted to take it for a spin.....

      Ok...on a serious note.

I got the deliveray of my car after a two month wait..but it was worth it.

      1.  Mileage: 18-20 kmpl with A/C.

      2. No engine, electrical faults.  I havent changed any parts except the oil filter at scheduled services.

      3. Ride quality is good.

      4. Of late, cabin nosie has creeped in a bit..is more audible with the AC on. Feels like the nose is coming from rear tyres.....

One question for you guys.  The service maual mention injector cleaning every 20000 km.  But my mechanic advised me not to tamper with any tem unless there is a real proble.

Have any of the guys had this done.

      Cheers

      Manish

Your authorised dealer Chittosho Motors C.39, Phase 3, (Indl. Area), Mohali, Punjab is rendering services to the Marut customers. I purchased Maaruri Swift Udi (Diesel) in December, 2008. Got two free services done from your above authorised dealer at its worksho: C 147, Phase-7,(Indl. Area), Mohali. The dealer failed to replace the Dicky lock, which became jammed. The complaint was made to the deaalers Service Advisor Baljeet Singh - Gautam - on 22.07.008 but failed either to give satisfactory anaswar, or repair the lock or replaced with a new one. The vehicle is within the 12 months warranty. Please give a suitable direction to the dealer.

A friend of mine bought a swift deisle just after it was launched. So i just got the oppurtunity to drive the beast(yes,,i wud call it a beast).
My first impression of the car was the kind that one wud hav on any deisle car.
Trust me,,i had not liked any car after the accent CRDI and was not mentally prepared for the swift. Then i got the keys in hand and started the engine. To my surprise,,the startin seemed quite wonderful(for a deisle car).Wat was next??First gear,,N m all set..Now,,i was focussuin so much on the pick up that i merely forgot the techometer.I took off,,and felt like as if i was driving anothor accent CRDI with less power..Atleast the initial pick up stated that. Then i turned on to the second gear which picked the car up rather too slow for my expectations..(Maybe i was too slow.)But then i decide to accelerate the car..VOILA!!!!
Wat was that???? I asked my friend..Turbo!! He said...
      Turbo?????
I was like ,,wat????Beleive me folks...The car literally pushed me back towards the seat after crossing 2000 RPM..It just kind of took off....
I tried the thing again and also for different gears...
It was the same for all....This impressed me.N since then i have been a strong supporter of the car.
With a good average of about 16-17 in city..it leads as the best small hatcback for ppl who hav higher runnig scales.Engine performence has been superb.I drove it at 170 kmph,,and it was juss the same....No loud vibrations(Though a lil bit.).balance seems fine..
Though the car seems good but few things make it a lil pissy..For ,one thng is for sure that a maruti wud not be called a maruti if it doesnt gets shaken from inside after the first 5000 kms..
I mean the internal disturbances..Like the sounds that cud be produced due to wear n tar of few parts. This is somethin where it lacks from a getz.
Getz is so sound and vibration free from inside that one feels like starting the engine of an already started car.He he!!!
But still,,The other features make it the best in class..
      Yah,,,One more thing..
My frnds car's engine started sounding a bit loud after he did 10000 kms..I dont hav any perfect idea over it but the compony ppl said that it is natural..
      All is all well!!!
Cheers to all the swift buyers and owners!!!

I am planning a buy this VDI. daily usage will be 50 to 70 kms.

Some of the dealers are saying if you wnt to buy a diesel you should use to drive minimum 100 kms per day and if it less than 100 kms maintenance also will go high compare to petrol. after a year or 2 the vechile will be more niose bcz of this is begining models in all other manufacturing of diesel vechile.

Due to this above people wards from dealers i am having confuse, any body pl clearify who is owing this VDI more than a year or 2 with maintenace cost like 3months once or 6 months once this will be useful to me to buy.

I took test drive and felt it is good in running and less noise compare to Indica Vista pick up is power ful. In Vista less pick up and taking to reach a few seconds to pick up when pressing accerlate. rest of the futures are good in Vista.

Even in VDI there is no CD player + Remote key in standard asseries MUL should think to do this also in the standard assesries.

      After much
thinking and researching, finally got my hands on the beauty - Swift VDi is all
shining armor. First look and you  know this is the car for me and once I test
drove it, fell in love with it. Booked mine on 9th June 2008 and got the
delivery within 9 days on 18th June 2008.
      Dealer: Rohan, Noida

The folks@ Rohan were a little careless and did not pay attension however the
sales exective was very helpful and kind, he ensured that I would get the car
within 10 days and so I did. Glad I didnt have to wait like the rest.
      Price: 5.63L On Road
      First Feel:
Being my first Car, I took great pleasure driving my little beatuty out of
the showroom. When I drove it - I could feel the superior Fiat Altec3 Multijet
Engine churn out power under the hood. The 75 horses lives up to my
expectations. The torque on this babe is an amazing 190nm which is far ahead of
      the rest in its class.

I had to really be very careful when pressing the accelerator - the car simply
wants to take off. The sad part however is that the engineers @ Maruti suggest
you to drive it within 2000rpm or 70kmph for the first 1000kms. So why is it
the sad part??? Well the turbo kicks in @ 2000rpm and then its the open road
and the others cars can get a good look at your cars tail light - coz it takes off
      totally.

VDi is running one of the most advanced compact diesel engines in the world. As
it features on the Fiat Punto as well in Europe and will be seen in India soon. I
would say the engine noise is surely higher when compared to its Pertrol
counterpart (about 15-20% louder) but dont mind that because of the driving
pleasure totally compensates for this. You cant expect to compare a diesel
engine with a pertrol - not happening. My VDi is giving me an amazing 17.5kmpl average
      in Delhi with
ac on about 70% of the time. Just for the record - I have clocked just 600 kms
yet. Just waiting for the first service before I take her out on the highway to
end of the road...for a long trip. I was told me that after the first service
the average should touch 19kmpl and after 2nd service - about 20 in city.

I am totally happy with my VDi. I feel very proud to have made the ri8 choice
actually. Excellent engine from Fiat - very quite and extremely peppy. Id say
the VXi is good and quiet so if thats ur
criteria for selection - then petrol makes sense. Body noise is going to set in
no matter VXi or VDi. But can be fixed on service by putting in dampers etc.
Diesel has its own advantages over petrol:

      - its meant to driven longer and at steady speeds without much effect to the
engine (engine is designed to take stress)

      - Running cost - though slightly higher than petrol (about 20-25% more than
petrol) however the low fuel costs compensate for it

      - Noise is slightly more then petrol but with the ac on and stereo playing
      "no difference"

      - advantage of Diesel is that it comes packed with a Turbo charger and
intercooler. An awesome multilet common rail diesel engine indeed. Won the
Engine of the yr award in UK 2005. Turbo charger kicks in at 2000rpm and wow is
all I can say. The car feels like a sports car suddenly. Very very peppy and
      responsive engine.

      - VXi Torque 113nm | VDi torque is a woooping 190nm (you know the difference
      when u push the peddle)

      - Petrol will give an average of 10-12 in city while the diesel should give
      18-20kmpl in city

      - Petrol servicing @ 5000 kms. Diesel servicing @ 10,000kms each
Average - Pick up - Performance - low maintainence - stylePlastic Interiors, Cabin Noise and Low visibility on Rear View Mirrors & AB Pillars when backing
