      I get an amazing mileage of 28 - 28.3kmpl

I bought my Swift IN 2008, I was happy with the arrival of Swift. Swift is the best smooth looks around, in its segment.

The sales guy bragged about very good mileage and all that, but seriously I never believed him for a sec (I was a little doubtful whether the car would still be so peppy after a few months or years). Anyway I loved the car and that was what mattered. You will not believe that I get an amazing mileage of 28 - 28.3 The highway sees me rip my swift at around 140 km per hr (Its sooo smooth).Yeah i do wish that the engine could have been more silent but who's paying attention to the sound when your car is so charged up. My swift is way more spacious.Unlike other cars I feel that the seating and the ride comfort of the car is excellent. When on the inside I don’t feel that I’m in a small car at all.

I really wish that they would have come up with a Zdi version but I realize that the price would then be more that the next good sedan. If any of you car buyers need my advice I’d say if you are buying a car don’t compromise with money and go for the lower versions cause its just not a car with out the full package. If you cannot afford I suggest you go for another model but the top version. Because once you buy your car and then feel that you should have done or bought something else then you have lost the real joy a car u like can give you. I bought my swift with ABS facility and I guess a powerful car needs ABS don’t you think. Hoping that this review can be of some help to someone out there.

Well after loads of research I settled for a Swift VXi, and was I pleased with my choice?     You bet !  Diesel was not an option anyway, since I’m a power-hungry city-dwelling guy, though VDi is a terrific cruise they say on the highways.

I’ve done about 6000+ kms now in about 5 months and the ride thus far has been euphoric to say the least, the Swift just does’nt go about doing stuff normally - it rocks.

After doing 2000 kms Blore-Goa-Blore covering all terrain -  pot-holed Blore roads, half made toll-guzzling highways, rough interior roads, well done Goa roads, superlative hair-pin bends, steep descending gradients, whey!  the car behaved just so well.

Well here’s a top-seller  from a car-makers stable known for their un-paralleled service network, top-notch service & after sales support.

SportyGood looks, power-packed engine, effortless handler, super road grip & ground clearance, spacious at the back, I ask myself what more could you get……well, may be a few kms more of mileage would have helped. It gave me 13.5 km on the highway with AC and 12 km in ‘Bangalore’ traffic.   If I said a real ValueForMoney Car, it would really not tell a good story well.

Well there’s still no real competition for a Swift, come i20, Jazz, Punto, et al.  As a package they just dont come upto Swift.  Ritz ?? some other day, kid brother.

I’d like to end this review with some sore points about the Swift though I don’t rate these as factors which’ll force someone not to buy this beauty, but they sure do stick out I suppose.

      1) Sometimes, only sometimes, I’ve felt the suspension a little hard, while doing some really rough roads around Bangalore

      2) Ive’ felt the front visibility tricky sometimes, due to the right pillar sloping down the front at the right corner, which renders the driver a little less ready for vehicles approaching suddenly from the right !

      3) The boot.   Well, the space is enough to take in the luggage of four of you on a really long drive, but not enough to carry back some stuff you liked out there. Just about 2 suitcases & 2 bags can fit in there.

Spacious, Power-packed, Very Responsive, A cool car to drive, the best after-sale Service supportBoot Space

      Exterior Very good looking. Muscular,

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Bad interior, dashboard, no driver info system, no stereo player provided. No rear wiper and washer. Rear defogger not provided.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Engine performance considering power and acceleration is good. We can rule the road. At a 90-100 Kmph no problem with the car we can drive confidently. But crossing from 100 it will make the car more wear and tear and we will feel a loss in confidence. I have driven at a top speed of 155 kmph in highways, Sometime the engine halts at low speed in cities and small roads, also dealing with gear sometime sucks. I am getting 15-16 kmpl with AC in Cities and highway respectively, 16-17 kmpl without ac in cities and highway respectively.

Ride Quality & Handling In front seats you ride quality and comfort very good, But in back seats very bad, jerky not good for long journey

Areas of improvement Interior and Provide some feature to customer at least in upper variant, Provide same features in Petrol and Diesel Versions, Dont cut features in diesel models, Need a good synced gearbox, Dont let your dealers to charge high price on their accessories, Provide a small gift even if it is your hot cake to delight the customer, Rethink about the suspension systems of the rear area

Style, Power, SpaciousBad interior, lack of features, Rear suspension,

Car has great pickup and good mileage. While travelling i never felt difference between diesel and petrol variants. It has smooth drive and great performance. mileage within city seems to be around 15.5 Kms/Litre. Good vehicle to own. The car seems to have great pickup in 2nd and 3rd gear. Within few seconds, th ecar just rushes at maximum speed possible.Great power, Style and good fuel economyBit noisy but nothing compared to other diesel cars

And most important is Providing Authentic and glitch free service to customers instaad of making fool out of them.

My story I booked a Maruti swift zxi from M/S Shakumbari ,Haridwar  May2010 and the dealers people told me that it will take 3 months . but after 2 days they called me and said they got a swift zxi in their another sister dealership  ie M/s Shakumbari ,Roorkee   as the person who booked it was not able to take it due to whatever the reson may be. i got little apprihensive but after several reassurance i agreed to buy the car as it was going to save me 3 months of waiting.

I took the delivery on 28 may 2010. I pointed out that there is a real spoiler already fitted in the car but dealer explained it to be fitted by Maruti itself and i believed it.

Every thing was going well till it happend that i landed in different service station in dehradun for my first free service at 1300 Km . I was told that the vehicle history of my car shows that it has already clocked 7700 Km and had undergone first 2 free services under someone else name.

It was like a blow to me. when i lodged a complaint in Maruti Regatding this they just kept on telling that they are enquiring it, but never turned up with any explanation on what went wrong.

On the other hand M/S Shakumbari Automobiles , was trying to convince me its a Maruti sysytem error.First of all how could i believe dealer if maruti is not accepting fault in its sysyem?i would have accepted the explanation but when i checked my service book i found that the complete owners details were over written on some one else service book by applying fluid i dont understand the need for that ? . they again said its a mistake and bla bla ....!!  even for a purchace of Rs 500/- one gets proper docs but here is the matter of Rs 6 lahs and this kind of silly mistake is not acceptable here in anyways.

I enquirey different deals regarding whether Maruti ever fitted Rear Spoiler in any ZXI but each one told they have never seen swift  ZXI with maruti fitted Spoiler. now that is completely opposite to what i was assured by M/S Shakumbari Automobiles

And this is my effort to make innocent people aware what extenet of cheating they could get from maruti and its goons ( dealers) . they all are sitting there to fool you just becouse its India and here consumer rights and feelings are not considered important at all . Had it been UAS or othe European Country these theifs would have been behind the bars.

I have filed a case in Consumer court , haridwar. by july 10 against both Maruti Suzuki and M/S Shakumbari Automobiles Haridwar. but so far they delayed they reply in court for months and the answer submitted in court by maruti and Shakumbari are contradicting to each other . which clearly indicates that some thing is wrong there . but the lack of fear from such system of justice is encouraging these goons to florish.
And interestingly in their reply to court they are thretening of Manhani Case and trying to portaray me ( their so called esteemed customer or whatever) as a scoundrel
I have also filed an another case of 420 in civil court against M/S Maruti Suzuki , and M/S Shakumbari Haridwar. regading the same. and so far My FIR has been registered with Police and enqury is under progress .Ofcource with snails speed. what ever may happen , now iam determined to bring the guilty to justice . Kindly be carefull and please guide me with your wisdom , i would really appriciate any kind of help.

      Regards

      Exterior

Looks great in all colors, but I had selected Grey. Overall nice styling and feels extremely happy when driving the car.

      Interior (Features, Space & Comfort)

Space is good for people sitting in the front and back..... if one takes into consideration that its a small car and on comparision with other cars of the same category the space is more. Its feels like driving a big car from the inside, ride quality is very good. But overall qulaity of materials used for the interiors is not upto the marurti or market standard.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox

Well its my first new car, it sounds really good about the engine, Gear box. but with what i have felt so far the engine has pretty good performance....The fuel economy is in the range of 16 in city and 18 on the highways. I expect it will improve after second servicing or after 3000 kms, as mentioned in the workshop arranged at Wonder cars, Pune.

      Ride Quality & Handling

As i almost compared the ride quality of the swift to other cars in the same range.....it talk a  volumes of the performace of the car. Handling is quiet good and its quite peppy off the blocks.

      Final Words

Worth for money spent and will enjoy the swift driving for long period.........

You can get a small car with good comfort which is comparable to a big car...

I will definetly recommend this car....

      Areas of improvement

The biggest disappointment was that with some charges, maruti should add power rear view mirrors....... its a shame that maruti doesnt even want to spend a small amount of money to make its product better........

Qulaity of interiors must be improved lookwise and quality wise.

Engine Perofrmance, Gear Shifting, Fuel economy, Comfort, StylingQulaity of interiors is not upto the mark

I am driving this car from 7 September 2007. My views are of course based on this limited period of about 20 days. Still, I am competent and experienced enough to make a resonably good judgment about the car.

Firstly, the car is simply fantastic. The view from the driver's seat resembles that from an aircraft cockpit. The car accelerates fast. The pickup is uniformly strong in all gears. The pickup remains very good even with full AC. Gear shift is a pure pleasure. If you are the type who derives a kick or two by zooming past other hapless vehicles on the road, then look  no further. This is the one for you.

The power steering is extremely good and so is the AC. The suspension is not very smooth, but it is rugged and would serve you for a longer period unlike the smoother versions. As I am still in the running in period, I have not exceeded 100 kmph. But, let me tell you that you can touch 100 kmph without any apparent extra effort. In fact you may miss to notice that you are already going that fast. Currently I am getting about 15.25 km per litre of diesel (with AC on approximately 30% of the time). I hope it improves after the first service. I have heard that the initial deliveries of the LDi had 20+ kmpl mileage. Subsequent to some corrections Maruti had done to the Engine Control electronics, the mileage has dropped to about 17-18 kmpl. I think, I can touch that figure after the first service.

Frankly, I am yet to see any demons, if any, hidden in this vehicle which might surface after some time. But, my sincere belief is that a Maruti vehicle might not spring such nasty surprises later.

The rear of the Swift is a bit wider compared to the front. So, you have to be careful while squeezing your way between other vehicles. If you use the front as a reference, then you are likely to err about the rear clearing through the same space. So, be careful if you don't want scratches on your car body rear.

Maruti could have provided the rear parcel shelf and similar little things like the left OVRM, vanity mirror, etc in the LDi model itself instead of reserving them for the VDi. Any way, that is part of the deal, so you can't complain.

When you compare the Fuel Cost+EMI for the Diesel and Petrol versions of Swift, you would inevitably come to the conclusion that the Diesel version makes much more economic sense even for moderate running of about 400 km per month. And once your EMI is over, then the entire fuel cost saving accrues to you. In that sense, this car is superb value for money.

Though the Indica V2 Diesel gives better mileage and is much cheaper, I would still recommend Swift Diesel to anyone on any day. For the simple reason that the Swift is in a class of its own. The Indica is a poor cousin.

I would get back with more information once I am through with the first service and some more exhilarating driving. Hope you find this review useful. If you have any specific queries, please e-mail me.

      Exterior Its good and cute.

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Space is ok for a small family, the fronts seats are comfortable but could have some more height.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Done 23000 km car is stable i touched 157-160 @ highway, very stable at an  average speed of 120 - 140kmph, economy is good, reverse gear it shows some problem, (its tight).

Ride Quality & Handling I touched 157-160 @ highway, brake is poor, easy way to find swift with and with out ABS, swift with ABS there will be scratch / hit at the back, Swif with out ABS there will be scratch/ hit at the front, I feel swift shows its perfomance in speed 70 + , while driving slowly i could feel all  small  obstacles in my road.

      Final Words Good car.

Areas of improvement Interiors, jerking sounds from the dash board, could increase the tyre size, make the suspension and break better.

cute design, stable, economicdashboard sounds , poor suspension

After deliberating for last 6 months, I finally got my Swift VDI delivered last week and I now feel that I could not have got better value for money from any other car in this segment. Maruti Swift is a fantastic car with and the diesel model simply rocks !

After driving both the Alto and Wagon R from Maruti, the swift is an entirely different experience. I have been reading so many reveiws of this model on this website and now that I own one, I fully agree with all those proud owners of Swift VDI as to why this car is the BEST.

To start off with, the car scores great on style quotient. Secondly, the engine is very powerful and u can feel the acceleration and fantastic pick up due to the turbo charge.

The best part which i liked about the diesel version is that u cannot feel the load while A.C is on. In petrol engines, i used to turn off the A.C for a while during take off.

All in all, I would recommend the swift VDI model to all those looking for the best model in this segment.

I have been driving my swift VDI for last one week and I am thoroughly enjoying the experience, the car is fantastic in city traffic conditions. As for the highway... well it is simply fantastic. U can feel that u are driving a really powerful car!

So far I have not experienced any negative aspects, although i feel that maruti could have done with better interiors and also a ZDI version akin to the petrol one.

But no complaints.... this car ROCKS !!!!

Great Style, Macho feeling, superb driving comfort, excellent engineNot very attractive interiors

It has been quite some time with my Swift VXi and I got to tell you all that it has indeed left an ear to ear grin on my face - how can I stop my proud smile - It has been really a very loyal performer.

Open the doors and you will be welcomed to a substandard set of interiors (when compared to the other parameters of the car). Have your seat and the front seat is more than happy to provide you support at the right places, key in and fire the engine - smooth is the word - superb and refined and a feeling of confidence would go down your mind.

Engage the "not vague", "accurate" "right in the slot" "short-stroke" "slightly hard" gearshift to the first gear, release the clutch and the vehicle surges ahead confidently - move it to second - it does it with a lot of ease. It doesn't get really racy in the first two gears and behaves like a normal car - you would at times be surprised as to where the so called power is all going but, take to the third gear and it starts behaving like a real powerhouse - 4th, 5th and you are off - hardly anything in front and even in the rear since there is nothing in the near distance to catch it. Take it to it's peak and raise the speed, touch the 3rd digit on the speedo - engine gets back with "Give me more". The car as a whole would speak of great confidence even at 130 plus kmph and handles amazingly well, accurate and precise. with the engine ready for more and you in total control even at such speeds, it is only the indian road which will make you thnik before stretching it further - Boy, this car really moves and it can take any kind of torture on the trottle - a true driver's car. Spiderman was told - with great power come great responsibilities. It holds good for this car also as the brakes have quite a bite to bring the vehicle to a standing halt quickly. the body frame and the body as whole make you feel safe as if you are wearing a strong armour around you.

A flaw in the armour being that it rattles and that severely dents the fun you have been having  - "Oh Boy!! What a dampener !!"

The suspensions on the car are firm and while being fairly good, still give you a feeling of what the tyres are going through and at times do trustfully transfer or recreate the tyre in the pothole sequence with you as the tyre and the seat as the pothole - "How dare you take me through that - got to whack your bum!!" - if only this suspension had a mouth - well, they are not bad but they ain't the best - fair deal I would say.

Having driven on a few vehicles with hydraulic power steering, I got to admit that I have personally liked the EPS - it was good precise and was providing "at times vague" but fairly good feedback to the driver - got to tell you that it doesn't firm-up that much at high speeds - well, it does, but not by a huge margin for you to notice.

The creature comforts of the AC, power windows et al behave and go about doing their job well - AC is powerful and you don't need to put it on the highest setting - ever. Accessibility to controls is quite good and everything is reachable within an arm's length - you don't need to stretch.

That's about you in the car - get in a friend of yours and provide him with the options of sitting at the rear seat or at the front - Don't be amazed if he takes the first row of seats. Bring on a couple of other guys with a big suitcase and pack the car - if you have more friends - they ain't going nowhere - for that is all this one can take. Additionally, you got to make sure that your friends in the rear seat are at the hieght of a normal indian - This car is not for large europeans of for those who are above average in terms of hieght  in the rear seat. Neither is it a car for those of us who carry a lot of luggage (A world wide survey revealed that Indians carry most baggage with them - true isn't it. If you don't believe me, go to a nearest railway station or airport and see it for yourself) - So, that is the reason why I term this one as a Driver's car - at the best a driver and 3 more average sized adults who carry nothing more than handbags.

I did mention the power, handling, ride handling aspects of the car and also stated what a fun it is to drive - so, how costly would be the drive - well, neither less nor more - This one returns with a decent fuel economy of 11 kmpl in city and 14.5 kmpl on highways (with AC at full blast) - well, I got to admit it that it probably is the best among the 1300CC - 1400 CC engine range - all the more so when this one spews up the maximum power among all of them - fair deal again - So, the fuel bills as well are reasonable.

One would be paying the fuel bills happily and with a similar ear to ear proud grin on the face because apart from the mileage, the fun it delivers is certainly a big bonus.

This to me is hence the benchmark among the hatchbacks - no wonders that anybody who is buying a hatchback as of today with a budget of 4.5 to 5.5 lakhs do certainly consider the Swift as an option.

If they don't, they are seriously experimenting !!!!

      Cheers,

      K Prasad
