I have taken the test drive of almost all cars in that segment Consist of Swift, UVA, i10, Indica Vista. I found Swift is best in Power & pickup but less in mileage, also the 4 years old technology as wll as very common therefore I dropped the plan else Swift is unbeatable. UVA is best in space but dull in pickup & moderate in Mileage, i10 has good look but bit congested on rear seats & doesn’t responded well on acceleration (moderate power & pickup but felt like stressing on engine) hence only the Car which satisfied me is Ritz. I went for the test drive, it has a good pickup, sufficient power & good mileage. I have easily touched the speed of 100Km/PH that I came to know when I saw the Speedo meter so the stability is also good. It’s a tall body so you feel like you are driving some SUV/MUV. There was a Honda CRV just beside to me & I was almost on the same height of driver’s seat. I have booked Ritz LXi in Blue Blaze color on 24th Aug 09 & getting the delivery on Dussera. I will keep posting my updates on the performance & other parameters.

Hi people I am writing this performance review after the 2000km service of my car and first fuel top up thereafter. I picked my Maruti Suzuki Ritz LXI on JAN 2010. I Am close to 5000km of running. I work out kpl from fuel tank top up to top up using the trip meter. After intial one month the vehicle started giving me a kpl of 17 – 18 with Non AC on in city traffic of Shimoga. it giving me a kpl of 20 – 21 with Non AC on Highway, Now it is giving me 16 – 17 kpl with AC, coz I use the HVAC in winter. Have taken it with ease to 120 kph with family sitting, till a stern warning with matching intensity glare from you know who made me come down closer to sanity. There was still pep left and the engine and the car had good grip of the road and good feel on the wheel. The engine responds very well to even slightest of pressure on the accelerator in all gears. Extremely helpful in those short fast burst required at times in the city. The speed range of the gears is wide and assists in the above case. The key to good average I have found is keeping the engine RPM around 1600 to 1700 rpm. At this let me add it touches 75kph in 5th gear. Have taken it out on a highway but cannot comment on the average there right now. However, the handling is extremely good. Have experienced excellent braking performance both at high speed and low. ABS actually lets us handle the turns and occasional zig zag of overtaking very well at all speeds. The engine leaves you exhilarated with responsiveness even if for overtaking the veh has to climb from 100kph to 120kph on highways.

Completed 3000KM in my Ritz ZXi. Overall I would rate it as a good package, with very comfortable in driving, good suspension, fuel economy and the kind of features on offer for the price. You will have feeling of driving a big car while having good manuverability in the city. Styling initially i did'nt like it , started liking it after getting used to it. Same was the case with me for swift :) Good to drive in city as well on highway. Boot space is one negative but there is an option of folding the back seat if only 2 are travelling. In city milage was around 13-14KM per litre with AC on.
Issues faced with the car.
A few usual maruti specific glitches exists such as rattling noise coming from the left back door side. Dealer tried fixing it but didn't succeed in it. Swift had the same the problem it seems for cars released before 2006, which was fixed by Maruti later.

The car looks great but the styles are inspired by i10. Mileage will be plus as compared to Hyundai cars. This car fills in the gap between Astar and Swift. The engine is from KB series. So it should be consistent with Astar's average promises. The diesel engine doesn't require any comment on it. It is the same Fiat engine which most of the hatchbacks use in India. This car will be hit with the Diesel variants.
Maruti should provide better features in the medium variant (vxi and vdi) so that it will compete with i10 sports. The prices should have been less as compared to Swift. The difference of prices of Swift and Ritz is less. If Maruti eyes the market of i10, the price should be reduced marginally.
Overall the car is good, but it can offer better features to stay in the race. Maruti can increase the price of Swift and give accessories and features which are provided in i20 and Fabia. Swift can compete with premium hatchback models where as Ritz can take on hatchbacks like i10, indica vista and palio.

Exterior The body strength looks good. The front is classy with prominent grills. Headlamps are good. The only problem to some people would be its back. Its weird shaped agreed but it solves the objective of being different. For Ritz's looks you can easily say one thing "Love it or Hate it.. but cant avoid it".
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) This is where Ritz scores over everyone in its class. With its height it feels as if you are in a office cabin. The height also increases your visiblity wrt traffic. Dash board is of good quality with intelligent storage space. The gear handle location is perfect for anyone's arm. With its location you dont feel the pain of driving for long hours. AC is very powerful and does well enough to beat the delhi temperature of 44 c.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Engine is peppy and responds to any kind of traffic situation.Be it a traffic situation of bumper to bumper traffic or driving on highways. I personally drove it with 7 of my friends fitted inside it and even at the speed of 135 i can feel the engine's capacity to increase the speed further. And all this you get with your giving you a mileage of around 13-14 kmpl.
Ride Quality & Handling The car's stability stands out despite its shape. As shared earlier with 135 kmph speed i could not feel any disturbance. This baby was just doing fine. The ground clearance is awesome and with its shock absorbers it can easily make its way through Okhala roads as well.
Final Words If you are planning to buy a family car which can easily make person of any age sit, Go for it, and As for its shape you would stand out.

Exterior Like many onther I initially didnt like the rear.But all of a sudden this post modern rear style started growing on me. Now the conventional styled rears in other cars looks like a dated design to me 😊 .And you know, boot is not actually limited because of the read design, it is actually larger than the Swollen Rear-ed vista's boot. I feel the paint quality is much better than swift as well. The tall boy design is awesome .I feel like driving a mini suv sometimes.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Ritz provides best in class seating comfort.Seat are positioned in upright manner with excellent under thigh support.Space in the rear is slightly better than swift but not comparable with vista.The RPM meter in dash looks nice during night times. AC cooling effect is very good.We get Head Rests,Central Locking,Weel Covers,RPM Meter and all power windows,Parcel tray under front passenger seats are coming as part of VDI.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox I thing no need to talk much about the engine as it is the same DDIS which runs Swift .But slight tuned in favour of city driving.Fuel economy is highly impressive . I got 24kmpl in a trip to a near by (250km dist) place that too when the first service had just got over.I didnt check after that. Gear Leaver Position(Mounted in dashboard itself) is the most stylish one , I like it very much.(it was actually one of the deciding factors while choosing the car 😊)Short throws are very useful in cirty driving.Gear change was initially very hard ,it is settling down now.
Ride Quality & Handling With soft suspensions we can expect very gentle ride.But once you cross 130km/hr it is not very comfortable.But to me this is not at all a problem as I never like to cross 100km/hr speed.
Final Words I got everything I wanted. Style , Comfort , Fuel Economy ,Performance and finally VFM(45K less than Swift VDI 😉) So I am happy 😄.
Areas of improvement Some bottle holders for rear passengers can be provided.

Exterior Superb exteriors, although some may not like the rear look. It looks like a powerful demon. Big tyres with upright looks give a better feeling. Great experience to own it.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Good looking and maintenance free. The tachometer should have been adjusted in the meter console itself. It looks a misfit standing out alone. Seats are very much comfortable, boot space is OK for a family.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox A POWERFUL engine, gives excellent pick-up and speed. Fuel economy is good for a 1200 cc engine. Gear box is smooth and easy to handle.
Ride Quality & Handling Easy to handle even at 155 speed, has excellent control. The short gear shift is easier to handle. At the top of it all is the power steering. It is effortless and keeps you in command at all speeds. The upright position is an advantage for the driver.
Final Words Excellent CAR. Value for money.
Areas of improvement Tachometer can be suitably relocated. Can improve on brakes.

Exterior The paint film is so thin that it gets scratches even by my nails.Not only my nails but any other pointed object which may not be very effective can give a beautiful scratch to the paint. Bumpers are of very bad quality.the quality of material used should be improved.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) The fabric and fibre used in the interior are of a really cheap quality as compared to Hyundai or Honda.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox The performance poors after 10000 kms.the claims about cooling capacity and engine economy are all false.
Ride Quality & Handling The ride is affected by the engine performance and fuel economy.sitting comfort is good but when we think of goin on with a driver and enjoying the rear seat the comfort is nowhere to be found.
Final Words The car's performance seems to be good during the test drive,but there seemsto be a drastic fall down in the performance of a Suzuki car as we start using it.
Areas of improvement Ground clearence, suspension, body paint, tyre quality that are provided must be improved.
