We see so many vehicles on road everyday but It's the Gypsy which makes anyone and everyone turn their head and take notice. Many vehicles have come and gone but Gypsy is still a headturner and remains the best looking vehicle to hit the road till date.Talking about comfort and interiors, they can always be improved as per our needs by little modifications as It is very spacious inside.I have a King and I have installed A/C and and It's like any other car now but with looks which you will never get in any Car or by spendind 20 Lakh on SUV's.Fuel economy is not as bad as everyone has assumed it to be...as long as you do not engage 4WD, in City itself one gets about 10 to 12 kmpl and in IDC it can go upto 12 to 15 kmpl..I think even Cars like Swift give only about 12 to 14 in city. And the ground clearance is amazing as in India we need it in cities too by looking at the pathetic condition of roads with potholes and nasty speed breakers :-) specially in cities like Bangalore,You can go off-roading on the main streets itself. With improvised suspension Gypsy can beat any vehicle on and off-road comprehensively.I have 2 more cars at home but I have left it for my parents and family..It's Gypsy for me anyday..And I completely agree wtih the Gypsy's advertising statement There's a Gypsy in everyone..Because I still see so many people irrespective of their age and irrespective of so many new ultra modern and luxurious vehicle flooding the market, dream of owning a Gypsy someday...which is under production for more than 20+ years now.The reason could be the looks or the perfomance..with all it's lackings in comparison with modern vehicles,This vehicle is still relevant somewhere in the hearts and minds of people like me.

You Feel like the king of all times, once I was stuck in mid of a desert, I put wheel caps in lock, put gear 4L and just a touch of Accerator and it litrally jumped out like a rabbit hopping out of forest.
It gives you the feeling that Nothing can Stop You however tough are the conditions.
Immense Power Excellent Style...Once when I was going on a highway one other fellow was having a Ford Ikon and we started racing .. the highway was a busy highway. when he was honking for side, the buses and trucks never moved but when my gypsy roared, all the other vehicles made way for the Gypsy Respectfully. Like that I left him far behind😝
That proves that a king is always a king. Most wonderful vehicle for off roads U feel a hell lot of confidence when driving it off road.

I ve had 2 Gypsy's
A narrow track 970cc regular MG410 Softtop between 1997 and 2000 and another 970cc regular MG410 Hardtop between 2004 and 2005.
I loved going off road in that jeep. It could literally climb 45 degree inclines and go into swamps and come out, shake itself and be on its way as though nothing particular had happened. I once pulled a Sierra out of deep sand on the beach side in Madras, with my old Gypsy.
A lovely vehicle and great fun to have as a third vehicle in the house, if you are a rich man.
The best thing about the Gypsy is that it only comes with 4WD standard manual just like a real jeep should!!
Fuel economy - complete waste of time being petrol driven.
Steering etc - absolutely horrible.
Suspension - forget it and go home!
Comfort - forget it. This is bound to give you a spinal injury with prolonged usage. You can feel every single bump on the road bone jarringly!
Why cant Maruti Suzuki come up with an upgraded version of this Gypsy jeep powered by the same Diesel powerplant as is there in the Swift? and do something about the suspension?
There is a desperate market out there for a Rs 5 lac to Rs 7lac Jeep/ small / light weight SUV/ Off roader/ 4WD vehicle! Why cant they recognise this fact?
If they could bring in the Suzuki Jimmy or Vitara which is the upgraded version of the Gypsy abroad, it would be lovely. However, a diesel version is absolutely essential for it to become a runaway sales success!
And a lot of people especially those living in remote farms, tea and coffee estates etc, would suddenly have an excellent and viable 4WD vehicle available at an affordable price!
King of Off Roading. Light. Tight. FUN!Lousy comfort. You will definitely end up with a Spinal injury. Hopeless fuel economy.Exterior/Styles

Everybody have said enough about Gypsy and about It's Pros and Cons in earlier reviews. So I will not talk about the same again.Don't mistake this for a review too...It's far more emotional and I should've written it down in my diary..But I just thought I should share this with you,If not all...
I'd like to describe Gypsy as a Rockstar...Likes of Backstrret Boys, britney Spears and jennifer Lopez etc have come and gone and we have already forgotten their songs too...Because there's a new song by some new artist playing on the Radio everyday. But we are still haunted by Dire Straits,Queen,Bryan Adams,Aerosmith, and Eagles etc...Ever wondered why ?They may be out of the scene now but still their songs remain in our mind and haunt us where ever we go.Gypsy has same qualities of a Rocksong. It may be outdated now but it's crude and tough and above all It still Rocks...It's like the firstever Highschool Crush whcih we will never forget for all of our life...I am sure in coming days few more Boy Bands and Bare Girls( I mean the sleek ,colourful Cars and SUV's) come and go but When we hear Hotel California,Yesterday Or Sultans of Swing we still stop and listen and then move forward...Gypsy is a rockstar which will remain fresh in our minds forever, may be even after the Video kills the Radiostar...And there are people like me who still goes and buy a Eagles record so I hope maruti does not discontinue producing the Gypsy and upgrades it.

Exterior For a jeep purist, this is a must buy before its gone. The MG413W is a design based on the older Jimny, a part on the Samurai etc that still makes heads turn, make people stop you on the road and ask questions and a design that looks endlessly good. Few cars were made like this.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Well, you cannot complain because it was made for a different purpose, its not for you to go to office in. So please dont mind the fact that the interiors is quite basic, purposeful and tough. No creature comforts.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox The G13BB engine powered the Esteems well that also did well at the rallies. So you cannot complain. Most torque is parked at the low end because its designed to crawl over rocks, not win you traffic signal GPs. Mine is retrofitted with an Esteem AC kit and there is hardly any difference in power or fuel economy of about 10-11kmpl depending on how you drive.
Ride Quality & Handling Again, where is the comparision? This car was designed to go to war. So dont expect a nice soft ride. The suspension is live and you bump and wobble. But that is the charm you paid for.
Final Words For my civilian friends who wonder why the Army only buys the Gypsy - this is the only vehicle they literally throw off planes to land on ground with parachutes in combat and this does land without breaking. Of course a combat gypsy (codenamed a Rover) is grossly modified but the basics like the chassis, suspension, body (despite the light frame) and mostly the engine and mechanics dont break on touching ground. So the next time you complain or want more electronics in your civilian gypsy, go and fix it yourself.
Areas of improvement I think it would be stupid to ask for any because we buy Gypsies for fun. I own my second one in 10 years. The old one was a MG410 HT 1992 model and the current one is a MG413W HT. I loved the old one and adore the new one. My wife choose it for herself. But it was ever designed for me or her though we both love it as much as we love our Safari Dicor. It was desined for those who take care of our forests, our borders and places we cannot think of reaching... not home to office.
The only thing Maruti could do is put the Suzuki badge on the grill instead of the Maruti badge and put the Gypsy King decal on both sides instead of just left.
