I bought Ertiga ZDI+SHVS in May-2016 and have driven over 13K kms till now & I am compelled to write a review.

It is the best economic choice for middle to upper middle class who want a 7 seater

      1. The first impression about a 7 seater is that it is lengthy. It is not at all so with Ertiga. It is shorter in length than any sedan cars like City, Ciaz, Verna, Sunny, Scala, Verito, Rapid. It is just compact enough for proper leg room in all 3 rows. This makes it quite suitable for city driving and in congested areas.

      2. It has 1.3 ltr diesel engine which is today one of the most reliable engines in India. Plus it is an engine with a high power to engine size ratio. This helps reduce the bonnet size and overall length of the car.

      3. When used as a 5 seater (collapsed last row), it becomes a lavish car, with large boot and with leg room comparable to that in Innova. Note that no other MPV (Innova, BR-V, Lodgy, Mobilio) or SUV can collapse the last row like Ertiga does. The last row when collapsed, reduces in height and when raised back increases in height. This gives a good thigh support for the last row. Also note that, this does not mean it will accomodate tall people. But then this car is meant for average Indian family where ladies height is around 5 feet and there are bound to be kids with you when travelling with family. So the last row is for shorter females and kids. At one time, I had 2 kids and a lady seated in last row without complaints. We were total 6 adults and 3 kids in the car for 450 kms drive on NH4.

      4. The on road price of top end Ertiga ZDI+ was 11.57Lacs for me. Compare that with BR-V top end price of 16.4Lacs, Lodgy 85PS RXZ Stepaway price of 13.52Lacs (not considering 110PS Lodgy, it is even more). Cannot even think of Innova Crysta, it starts from 17.71Lacs. In top end Ertiga we get reverse parking camera, touch screen, GPS, button start, steering mounted controls, bluetooth connectivity to phone and smart phone connectivity, rear wiper when compared with VDI. The other important features are 2 airbags, driver seat height adjust, steering height adjust, rear AC (rear AC has condenser pipe and not just a blower), sliding first and second row seats, 2nd row is with 60-40 split, adjustable head rest for 6, arm rest in 2nd row when used as 4 seater, 12V socket in front and rear, all power windows and power OVRMs, gear indicator and gear shift indicator, average fuel consumption and instantaneous fuel consumption, distance to empty.

One of the main reasons for going for top end was integrated Reverse parking camera which is a boon in tight parking conditions. I have had many scratches in rear bumper of my previous car in the absence of reverse camera.

Rear viper becomes very important, when driving in rainy season and water droplets block rear vision through OVRMs.

      5. To overcome the limited luggage space, I fitted my Ertiga with a Carrier similar to Rouf Rails (just google and see), which aesthetically blends with the car design seamlessly. I had it planned before booking Ertiga. So limited luggage space was overcome. Now note that even Innova's luggage space is not that great. Lodgy and BR-V are better in this regard.

      6. With pothole ridden roads and speed breakers which defy even SC directives, ground clearance becomes one of the biggest factors and highly ignored criteria when buying car in India. Ertiga's ground clearance is 185m, which is just about optimum. Compare that with 175mm of earlier Innova, 185mm of Crysta, 170mm of Lodgy, 161mm of Enjoy, 174mm of Lodgy. Increasing ground clearance tends to imbalance the car on turns at high speeds, thats why I said 185mm is just about optimum.

      7. Why go for 5 seater when u get 7 seater in the same price range or even lesser in many cases. I am comparing it with price of sedans liks City, Ciaz, Verna, Rapid, Scala, Sunny, Etios. It is even less than SUVs like Brezza, Duster, Terrano, Ecosport, S-Cross, though we cannot compare sedans and SUVs with MPVs. The point is if you can afford to stretch 1-2 lacs above economy sedans like DZire, Amaze, Xcent, then go for 7 seater instead of 5 seater. Even hatchbacks like Jazz and Elitei20 cost around 11lacs which is only slightly less than cost of my Ertiga.

      8. The acceleration on highways at above 1700 RPM is quite good when we have to overtake slow moving vehicles like trucks, not only on highways, but also in city traffic. The 1.3 ltr engine is quite powerful. It may not be as powerful as Innova or 110PS Lodgy, but I felt, the pulling power of Ertiga is very good even when it is fully loaded. Above 1700 rpm, you will feel a sudden push and it will easily achieve high speeds quickly. So any impression that the engine is low powered is totally misplaced. This is true even on steep inclines that I have experienced during couple of drives to Mallapuram district, Kerala which goes through the Western Ghats.

      9. Multi combination of seat folding. This one is the best plus point of Ertiga -

We were 7 people - 5 adults and 2 kids. travelling for around 350kms one way. We collapsed the 2nd row. We put 2 big luggage and couple of small bags in the gap between 2nd row and front seats. Last row was not collapsed. Made a bedding in the area for 3 adults and 2 kids. They enjoyed the journey playing cards all along. It was even possible for the 2 yr old kid to be fed and make sleep in this position. No other MPV gives this kind of flat area when seats are collapsed. Just take a look at collapsed seat photos of any MPV.

We also had last row collapsed in another long drive and it gave even larger space, but was not comfortable for back support when seated. But this also is a good option, if you take along lot of cushions with you for back support.

      10. The car is a compromise in many aspects like power, space, features, which are not disadvantages but advantages when viewed in perspective to Indian road conditions and middle to upper middle class financial status.

Now some of these disadvantages of Ertiga for which I have counter arguments for -

      1. Remember, Ertiga has a tall boy design, plus a 7 seater, and not like a sedan. So the driving dynamics are not same as that of sedan. It is not recommended to drive above 80-100kmph on Indian roads. Also, why would you drive above that kind of speed on Indian roads? how many highways (forget about city roads) in India are suitable for that kind of speed? Are you sure no buffalo or kid will suddenly come in front from nowhere? Are you sure of no speed humps or pot holes or gravels along the highway?

      2. No automatic climate control.

There is temperature control knob which is a convenient low price option for auto climate control.

      3. No cruise control.

I have never experienced cruise control. But on Indian roads, is it really worthy? Using it only 5% of times is waste of the feature and waste of money.

      4. No luggage space when used as 7 seater.

I have my Ertiga fitted with Rouf Rails like carrier on top. It compensates for the absence for rear luggage space. Also, how many times will 7 people be travelling in a family? May be around 15-20% of times.

      5. I felt the AC performance is just about adequate in most of the conditions

but may not be sufficient for 45 degrees outside temperature and 7 people seated in car. I am saying "may not" because I have not tested in that kind of temperature. I have tested till around 38-39 and it is quite pleasant inside, not chilling cold though.

      6. Not enough leg room when 7 seated -

If there are shorter persons and kids then let them site on last row. This way the leg room is comfortable for all. Tall people should be made to sit in middle row and not in front. Dont expect a 20lacs Innova in 11.5Lacs Ertiga :).

Exterior I had pruchased a special eddition, hence grpahics, alloy wheel, chrome grill and handles made it a great looking car. But I found silver color with blue graphics is most impressive combination.

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Power window and real vent are good only comfort or convenience. Additonal cup holders in third seat are good. Very effective AC to third seat also. Lighting in third seat is not there and shows a gap. Space in third sheet is also not good for little tall adults. Seat cushion quality needs improvement.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox In last one year I have travelled about 30000 Km in this car, in city highways and hills too. In city performance on CNG is extremly good and gives about 18 to 20 KM/Kg of CNG. On petrol I have never checked in city. But on highways you feel power crunch beyond 100 Km/Hr speed when run on CNG. How ever good on petrol.

I have travelled on hills also but performance does not disappoints.

Ride Quality & Handling Very good ride quality, don't feel tired in long journey. My entire family travlled 1000 Km in single day.

Final Words Good value for money and family car. Excellent service  by Maruti at very reasonable maintenance cost.

Areas of improvement But not having ABS in CNG version also reduces safety, should be included. Rear lighting, seat cushion should improve.

Exterior front, Interior color and quality, Over all space, driving comfortNo ABS, blue tooth, steering mounted controls etc, in CNG version. ZXI fatures required.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox I drove 1000 Km till now in and around Bangalore (rural), covered 400 Km on highways, remaining on village routes (single lanes), with 8 occupants no delay in engine response. SHVS is really boosting the mileage, I see the average of 21 in first 1000 KM  ( calculated between  auto cut- offs, filled 40lts after taking delivery from showroom ( auto-cut)and drove 668 and refilled 31Lts ( auto-cut). I feel it is good mileage and hoping it may increase after 5000KM.

Exterior Good looking Family Car (LUV).

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Interiors (beige color) are very tough maintain. Cleaning is a big. Challenge. Unfortunately no other option in color.

      Ride Quality & Handling NA.

      Final Words Value for money.

Areas of improvement Quality of parts can be improved (especially the door rubbers, hose pipes  in engine components looks so cheap.

As similar to other competitors, getting in to 3rd row of seats is not comfortable. But Maruthi tried to make seating in 3rd row is also convenient, with bottle holders, and A/C went from 2nd row covering 3rd row asweel.

Exterior Good Exteriors, Nice Polishy Finish. Flexible antenna is good-esaily removable.

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Fair enough- dual tone finish will be added advantage, Carpet and Seat colour prone to get dirt easily. Middle row seating adjustment is very good for long drive.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Engine performance in low RPM is not good, Mileage very bad with Good Gearbox. After speed hump, its taking more to pickup- Turbo lag is seen.

Ride Quality & Handling Riding in Highway is good- very comfort enough to have long drive with whole family.  -Very good for driving. soft enough for ladies to drive in comfort.

Final Words Worth for money with all safety features.  Expected  a lot with this model- but we its below the bar of my expectations.

If mileage is not of a concern- this car will be a breeze.

Areas of improvement Mileage needs to be improved a lot, Inside noise during bumpy ride needs to be taken care or improved.

AC Performance, Gear Shifting, Good Hightway RidingLow Mileage,Rear Vent Noise during Bumpy Ride

Maruti Ertiga is a Car that is directly competing with Innova, Ertiga gives you value for money. The new ertiga has a good look and colours are also attractive. The head lights are very powerful and can drive easily on Indian Highways in the Night.

The interiors are of light colours and get dirty very easily, they have used cream colour in the flooring, I had to redo the full flooring and went for lamination for the flooring. (Cost for flooring and Seat Covers Rs.15000/-) All I also opted for leather covers for all the seats and got it done from outside. Other things that I did install was a reverse parking camera its avaliable for cheap outside but maruti MGA will charge around Rs.14000/- for the same. I got the MGA camera. Arm rest cost around Rs. 5000/-  Over All I think maruti should give coustomers good and resonable options for all this as its very difficult to get all  this work done.

The engine is quiet cool and desel engine dose not vibrate at all. When sitting in the cabin you will hear no sound if the AC is on. Powerfull Ac will chill you because I was travelling across the country in this car in May and the temperature across Gujarat and Rajasthan was 42 to 50 so we tested this in the worst weather conditions with full 7 people load and Luggage on carrier.

The Ride Quality & Handling of this car is simply super and easy, turning can be a problem sometimes as its a long car. But the power stearing makes this a easy task. Go

If you have a big family or want to travel with lots of Luggage then this is the car you need. If you can afford the Innova then go for Innova or then this car is the best for you.

      Hofa.

Exterior Its a long car. So the driver needs to be aware at sharp turns

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) The best interior space, extremely comfortable. I installed the rear camera from a local shop. I feel it's a must to have it as reverse driving could be dangerous otherwise. AC is too much powerful, simply unexpected.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Awesome! powerful engine performance. Climbs smoothly on steep slopes....If one drives at 60km/hr, one can get a fuel efficiency of 24kmpl. I drive usually between 80km/hr to 100km/hr and I get an average of 16kmpl.

Ride Quality & Handling Excellenet ride quality and handling. The car's response to the accelerator is amazing. Brake quality is just perfect.

Final Words I purchased a Vdi Shvs Ertiga and installed alloy wheels, rear camera is quintessential for this car, seat covers and steering cover, arm rest is highly advised as it provides the much needed support and rest to the left hand which is usually occupied to change gears. Ertiga is a great family car. It's unimaginable how much boot space one can get if the third row seats are folded.

Areas of improvement Can be a bit more longer in length to add some decent boot space. But with the foldable individual seat option in the third row, one can get away with this additional space requirement.

Big car, Smooth driving manoeuvrability, Flexible seating, Seating comfort, Best for long drivesRear wiper for Vdi, Less spacious for luggage when 7 passengers are seated,

My self Arvind Sarjerao Dhamaanay(Mechanical Enginner)using maruti vehicle since 2009,presentaly Ertiga ZDI,SHVS.
while travelling from Ganpatipule to kolhapur,(with family 7-8 ladies)battery indicator glows ,and before 20 km from kolhapur ,near Waghbil area, vehicles ABS,BRAKE indicator also glows up,vehicle stopped and steering become hard.while check found alternator belt broken!!
So called maruti helpline for road assist 18001021800 at 15;00pm.They registered complaint no-1072522 at thane area and getting call from them while i am in kolhapur area. Then again registered a complaint n0 1072529 then call from VAKRATUND MOTORS,opposite mahavir collage, nagala park, kolhapur coming, and one maruti omni coming for pulling my vehicle at 17:45pm.I shifted the family in bus and request them to sit in BUSSTAND.After reaching the Authorized workshop they not taking my vehicle for repair ,suggest me to come tomorrow 9:30am.Leave the place and took Lodge nearby bus stand .
At 31 Dec when i go there ,the workshop manager said ,alternator belt not available with us ,you took your vehicle and go in authorized show room,we charge your battery and you go.Charge my battery and start vehicle with connection of of other battery,(charge 1035 rupees for vehicle pulling )while they know my vehicle not gone up to authorized workshop!.And same thing happens ,vehicle again stopped in road, traffic jam in BAZARPETH.Then calling to SAI SERVICE MAruti DEALER,SHIVAJI udyam nagar, kolhapur.,their Maruti estilo was coming for pulling. While the technician attached hook to both vehicle, and while start pulling  my vehicle hook slip and damaged AC pipe and front bhumper,AC gas had gone.
After reaching there, lunch brake so they take my vehicle after 2pm and replace ALTERNATOR belt at15:30pm,when ask for AC pipe they said pipe not available with us,so you change at your native(while AC pipe and Bhumper damaged due to their technician fault). They charged me the bill of RS 747/- for replacement of belt, while asking them for warranty(vehicle km was 36876 km),they said rubber part not coming under warranty, but up to 40000km company warranty is there and i also taken extended warranty also.
This is the most worse experience i getting from MARUTI authorized people, how we trust and suggest for purchasing maruti vehicle.
Then at 16:00 pm pickup the ladies from lodge and travel towards Ahmednagar.

Owns 2016 Ertiga VXI AT. Driven 10000+ in 13 months. Costed 10,40,000 on road including multiple accessories (headlight upgrade with relay, sunfilm, arm rest, chrome handles, rear spoiler, seat covers, dual mats, full floor matting, bumper & side protectors, wind wiser.

Exterior: Nothing Offensive. Perfect Family Looks. Nothing to hate about. With re-designed bumper & grills, it looks really smart. Wish MS should have extended rear lights & increase power of head lamps or provide better reflector forhighways.

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort): This is where Ertiga excels. Perfect for a mid-size family with occassional long trips. With Facelift, Electric Adjustable & Folding mirrors, 2 Airbags, ABS, Integrated Stereo with Bluetooth come as default. Middle row AC (not just Fan) adds super comfort to all rows. No complaints whatsoever.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox: Slight disappointment. Engine definitely is underpowered & to add pain, 4 Speed AT gearbox is really Old school. They could have given 5 speed CVT. I am in Hyderabad & roads are crests & troughs. Car struggles with AC to pull neatly & engine noise becomes audible. Fuel Economy I get around 13 KMPL incity (non-traffic), 10-11 in traffic & close to 17 on highway with speed maintained below 100. On straight road, no complaints regarding pickup. Wish they could have providedsame SX4 1.6, 103 BHP Engine. Also, there is no manual option (I was well aware as I was driving Ritz AT prior to that), but wish they could have provided manual option like Hyundai (Grand i10, Xcent eventhough they are also 4 speed).

Ride Quality & Handling: Ride quality is good, not excellent. Suspension is tuned pretty much like Ritz/Dzire. Wish they could have provided 195/65 R15 or higher tyres. Currently its 185/65 R15 which is similar to Swift/Dzire/Ritz ZXI (They are different category). Also, Maruti for God Sake, please don't put JKTyres. Start using Bridgestone. I shifted from Ritz to Ertiga. No Handling difference. Feels nervous above 50 KMPH making a turn. But, Ertiga drives like a car, easy to park, handle.

Final Words: I wanted a big Petrol only Car (7 seater) with Automatic Transmission below 14,00,000. Was waiting for BRV, but was extremely disappointed when I checked & saw it costing 14,90,000 on road with side looks exactly same like mobilio, Innova Crysta was way out of my budget (Around 1800000 on road), Scorpio, XUV 500, TATA Hexa all in diesel. Not crazy to buy Audi/BMW/Merc as theyare easy to buy but impossible to maintain . Only Ertiga fitted in my budget.

Areas of improvement: Pickup in AT (Please provide CVT like in Baleno), Better quality parts to avoid Rattling issues, modify Rear Lights shape. They don't Gel at all with car looks & size (reminds me of Hyundai Getz). Maruti after sales service is getting pathetic day by day.

Mileage, Car like driving (Swift/Ritz), Seating comfort, VFM, FeaturesPickup in AT, Typical Maruti Rattling issues, Rear Lights, not so good after sales service anymore

      Ride Quality & Handling

Final Words I bought this car 15 days before and I had long drive than I understand that milage is not more than 10 kmpl for Diesel. I asked few expert about my car they said that's not possible. But friends its possible since I complain to service center they asked me to take one more long drive. Still result is same. Now I would suggest you people to not to buy this car. use less. and 3rd row is not at all comfortable for adults its only for kids. However I am owner of this car I would suggest not good fit for family. and long drive. Better I would buy some 5 seats car. useless services and useless car. I have wasted my money.

      Areas of improvement NA.

i wasted my moneylow mileage, worst AC. Music System is useless
