After owning a SX4 for many years, I decided to look for an additional car with the primary aim of seating my 6 member family in relative comfort. The usual suspects came to mind - Innova, Mobilio, XUV500, Aria and such. Next was to visit the showrooms of each manufacturer and do a detailed test drive. I visited the Tata showroom and after waiting for some 20 mins, a sales person took me over the Aria features and such. Unfortunately I found the Aria a tad out of my budget (same with Innova) and decided against a test drive. Next was the Mahindra XUV 500. While the exteriors are super, the interiors are distinctly down market. The drive is average at best and all the gizmos do not make up for the poor handling and average fit and finish. To be fair, the XUV500 is a huge step up for Mahindra from their earlier generation vehicles, but I came away a little less than impressed. I tried the Honda Mobilio and found that to be an excellent car but for two issues - very average interiors and price (value for money). Finally saw the Eritga and found a car that best suited my needs. Flawless handling, great interiors, decent space (ideal combination for a regular city commuter and occasional full family seater), decent fuel economy and performance. The only down side I felt was perhaps better exteriors and more gizmos - but these were points I was more than willing to overlook and finally I went for the Maruti Ertiga. I added a few after market fitments such as reverse camera and GPS to fulfill my gadget desires. Its been a month now (800 kms) and I have absolutely no regrets with my choice.
