okay - Risky at times when the steering jams briefly for powerloss
Final Words
I own an Ertiga Zdi for last 8 months(Bought in Feb 2013). Since last 4+ months, I am facing issue related to sudden loss of power while driving. The car has visited the service center 4 times for the same problem. Issue has recurred every time I took the car back.
Below are the issues:
1 - Loss of power at 1.7 to 2K rpm at 70 to 90 kmph speed followed by lot of smoke at exhaust - occurs when AC is switched on
2 - considerable vibrations at 5th gear just before power loss
3 - Steering jammed briefly while pressed the clutch to bring it back to lower gear followed by power loss from engine. After I engaged clutch, the power came back to steering.
I am lucky to have a very supporting dealer. They are working with Maruti engineers to solve the problem and provide me with a replacement car. But the frustrating part is the outcome of the repair.
Areas of improvement
Maruti/ Suzuki needs to improve their engineering division to troubleshoot and fix issues promptly to improve customer satisfaction.

I am in LUV with this vehicle for several reasons. First, its Maruti, which understands Indian Roads more than any one in the industry. Secondly, its an option of 7 seater, and I have driven with 8 includng kids. It becomes a bit congested with so many peopkle, but, what the heck, we are all together. What better you culd ask for in a long drive of 700kms etc. Otherwise we had to split into two cars.
The mileage is a plus plus here. It has been giving me a mileage of 15 in city. The pickup could have been better, but what the heck, it runs. For my usage, I drive it to my kid's school and office everyday, and I feel the comfort of driving a car like this would not have come in any other car. Now the surprising element here is, I sold my Honda City to buy this.... :), yes and I have no regrets AT ALL. Honda never understood Indian conditions and they will never. They are a stubborn company and will continue to build cars with low ground clearance and so delicate parts.
Now after driving 10000kms in the last 5 months(I know its high, but I did some 4-5 long drives too), I am really happy with my vehicle and trust me, its better than Honda City in many ways. Overall, I recommend it to all Family people.

Exterior
Just like any other maruti car it has mediocar look. Height and width is just right for city driving and occasional highway outings.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort)
Despite having smaller length, it provides good interior space. Probably because of smaller engine compartment. Beige Interior looks very pleasant and spacious.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox
Petrol engine lacks mid RPM torque and power. Hoever above 2500 RPM engine peps well. Gear box is not very positive when compared with vento / etios. Gear shift feels as good as Manza. Its smaller engine will provide good milage in city.
Ride Quality & Handling
Ride quality is stable, negligible ROLL, suspensions are adequete for rough roads.
Final Words
Value for money ??? (Not really) It can not be compared with Xylo or Innova as they belong to different catagories of vehicles. Ertiga is LARGER HATCH BACK for 5 adults with occasional trip with 2 kids.
Areas of improvement
300 mm longer car would have made ertiga a WINNER of all time.
Reasonable size, fuel efficiencyNo boot, lower leg room,

The Ertiga looks similar to a few cars - Ritz, Jazz, Innova. But overall it looks quite unique and catches the eye. There are no sore points. It may not have stellar looks. But there's nothing to dislike about the car. Maruti may have played safe with the looks, but I am not complaining.
The interior has several feature on the top end variants. The steel/chrome finish on the steering wheel etc. adds style, features like steering mounted controls are good. ACC could have been added to the top end though. The space inside is quite good. Taking into account the fact that the LUV only looks like a bigger hatchback, they have done a really good job with the interior spacing. Its only when the second row is fully pushed, that the third row is "strictly kids". Otherwise when the second row is kept at comfortable setaing position, the third row can easily accomodate two under six feeters. The third row when folded gives ample space for luggage. With third row up, there is hardly any luggage space. At best it can accomodate a few small bags. Thats why, if the third row was split and removeable it would have given more options in terms of use of space.
The K 14 petrol engine is a new one - but it drives very well. The tried and tested 1.3 L diesel does the job in the D variants. I wasn't sure of the luggability of the engines. But after the test test drives that I did (both petrol and Diesel) I was satisfied that it will do a good job.Though one needs to test it with six passengers and some luggage - to be completely sure. The gears are short and work well. The pomised FE is encouraging.
It drives just like a car which is a big positve- considering that it is an MUV. The steering wheel is really light. Turning radius is good. It handles very well at good speeds and when turning at corners.
Maruti has got a winner and now the othhers will have to do the catch up job - as it has always been the case with Maruti hatchbacks.
If they can provide 50:50 split last row with option to remive, it will be 100% perfect.
Overall packaging, drive, pricelast row should have been split with option to remove

Exterior Very Good but same funda like TATA 😵 (all model faces look alike).Looks like younger sister of Toyota Innova from side, most people while discribing tells "Woo Innova Jaise..."
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Faulty Third row Seat back rest, keeps on shaking while Breking & accelerating😲. Plastic lid provided while opening Spare Tyre will hardly remain intact after 5 to 6 removal attempt😕.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Very finely tunned for good performance,Gear shift very smooth that too only Maruti can do😄
Ride Quality & Handling Accordinglly...,when 7 people seated, turbo lag is there which is not usefull while overtaking on highway. If single driven then gives tough to SUV's like Scorpio & Innova
Final Words Very Good Vehicle for all purpose 😊 the name MPV really deserves, the only vehicle with milage of 19Kml on highway with 7 seater.Vehicle meant only for Physically Fit and not obssesed people.Good choice instead of Sedan for luggage space can be used for seating purpose also.
Areas of improvement Fix the problem of Third row Seat back rest as it keeps on shaking while Breaking & acclerating😕.On my 3rd service came to know that drain plug of oil chamber has to be replace at every interval of oil change which costs Rs.70/- which is not done in any car except it's damaged.

Exterior When you first see the Ertiga from outside, it looks big from some angles and small from others. As you sit in it, you will not get to feel that you are in an MUV, to get into this car you don’t have to climb as in a Qualis, nor do you have to slide in as in an Accord. Actually its almost level of the average height of people.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) All Swift owners will feel familiar at the steering. The dashboard is identical except for the colour. The Swift has black interiors while the Ertiga has beige. Due to the light colour and high roof, Ertiga has an airy feeling. When you sit in the second row, you can adjust the seat like one adjusts the front seats. They go back and forth and they can be reclined as well. The 60:40 ratio of the middle row works well most of the time. As a five seater, it is very spacious because you can pull the seats completely back which creates as much legroom as the Innova. However if there are six or seven people then the second row passengers have to squeeze in a bit so as to create space for the third row passengers. The headroom at the back is good for a person shorter than 170 cm (5’8”) but for taller people with every small bump on the road your head hits the roof. The legspace and kneeroom is good for a 170 cm (5’8”) tall person. The middle row passengers however have ample legspace, kneeroom and headroom even with people sitting at the back. If there are more than five passengers then the bootspace is minimal. Only two to three small bags can fit. However if there are five or fewer passengers then after folding the third row, there is enough space for five to six big bags.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Seeing the rise in fuel prices, Maruti has given great importance to the fuel efficiency of the Ertiga. The mileage on the highway with occasional traffic with air conditioner is 20 kmpl. On a normal day in Delhi traffic it gives 16-17 with the AC on. In June with temperatures touching 50 degrees Celsius, it gives almost 15 kmpl. In winters the average is 17-18 kmpl. Few hatchbacks succeed to touch that feat. The car is powered by a 1.2 litre Diesel engine. This engine has been borrowed from the Swift, but surprisingly it works very well on the Ertiga which is bigger than the Swift. It produces a maximum power of 89 Bhp at 4000 rpm. Maximum torque is 200 Nm at 4000 rpm. Till the 2000 rpm mark, the car feels pretty uneventful but if you push the throttle thereafter, you are pushed back into your seat, and this pull continues till 4500 rpm.
Ride Quality & Handling The car feels very stable at high speeds. You feel confident going into the turns. There is minimal body roll due to the stiff suspension. It absorbs the city potholes well but you do feel them.
Final Words Ertiga may not be as spacious as the Innova, nor as good looking as the Ecosport, but if you come to think of it do you really need all this. If there are less than five passengers then it is as spacious as the Innova, how often will you carry more than 5 people in your car? Innova is almost double the price of the Ertiga. Do you want to spend 8 lakh rupees for the occasional third row passengers? Coming to the Ecosport, Ertiga has much more space than the Ecosport, can seat 7 people if required, the average Ertiga is double of that of the Ecosport. If you talk about features, yes Ecosport does have Bluetooth connectivity, but can’t you just wire your phone with the stereo, then it will do the exact same functions. The Ecosport is also a little expensive than the Ertiga. So Ertiga is one of the most practical and value for money cars in the country. The price at which it is offered is the cheapest in its segment. You also get the unfailingly great Maruti Service. Model to go for: VDi. Because it is 70,000 rupees cheaper than the top model and the only differences are steering mounted controls, height adjustable seat and alloy wheels.
Areas of improvement The third row seating really needs improvement. They are very cramped.

I bought Ertiga VDI 1.5 months back in Delhi. Have driven it mostly in city, been on highways once.
It gives great mileage, 15-18 in city and 20 kmpl on Highways. Great exteriors and interiors. family just loves it. Good thing about Ertiga is that people compare this with Innova which is 4-5 lac costlier !!. it may not be as powerful as Innova or more specious at back, but it scores on mileage and compactness. so, obviously Maruti has come up with a Winner and this surely will creat new market within MUV/SuV.
Having driven Petrol vehicles till now, Ertiga VDI at times feel a bit underpowered. the engine is only 1280 cc, so one does feel it lacks that extra pickup needed in city traffic conditions. But things comes with a price. where it defintely scores above any other MuV/SuV is the mileage. Imagine driving on highways and it gives 20 kmpl. we have driven Ertiga with 6 adults and 4 kids ( yes, everyone fit it nicely ! ) and it was a comfortable ride.
Overall, great mileage and great value for money..

Exterior Exterior is very good. Looks like mini innova. Front looks like car and on the side looks like SUV.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) 5 adults and 2 grown up kids can travel without any discomfort. The spare tyre is positioned on the bottom of rear side. Decent luggage space even without folding the thrid row. My daughter is a tennis player..and she has matches one in the morning and another in the afternoon. Therefore, between that time she needs good rest. I shall fold both the second and the third row. Which makes the car more like a mini room. We shall sit inside with A/C on and enjoy our meal. After which she can sleep with leg streatched. More than space it is the flexibility which makes this car quite attractive. You can simply shift your entire house using this car. Interior is stylish and I liked it. OVRM is very smooth. It has all the features of any luxury car. Good value for money.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Fuel economy. With city and highway --I am getting 17.5 Km/L. Online milage indicator helps us to drive with good fuel economy. This car is not for racing. However, at greater than 2000 rpm. The pulling power is very good. I frequenly travelled between chennai and bangalore at 120 Km/h speed. I didn't find any vibration. I couldn't sense the speed. But in city traffic. You have to be patient with this car. The pickup is not so good.
Ride Quality & Handling I didn't find any difference between driving Ertiga and any other car. It s quite smooth and with good manevoribility.
Final Words For the price tag it is good value for money. The equivalent cars of this size is Fort Eco sport, and Reanult Duster. They are priced around 2-4 lacs more than ertiga.
Areas of improvement Engine capacity may be increased. Torque may be improved. Price can be reduced further to make it a monopoly in this price range.
