Maruti Suzuki is to India what Volkswagen was to Hitler's Germany. It is definitely the Indian household car brand. Mostly preferred by the middle class sector of the nation, the Alto 800 series does no less to live upto it's legend. This review is about the Alto 800 Lxi in specific. Starting with the looks- Although not as astounding as the high end sedans or sports cars, this one is definitely "sexy" for a hatchback. When compared to the Hyundai's i10 and i20, Wagon R and so many other hatch backs, this has looks definitely not be messed with. It has a limited but decent boot space and an easily accessible trunk. Slowly drifting inwards, we find a decent interior. Definitely not luxurious but quenches the thirst. It is quite compact but comfortable for four full adults (3+1). The head and leg space are as expected. When comes to the size and spacing, I would say this car is a spacious studio rather than a compact 2BHK (like a Wagon R for example). The cockpit is as expected with the usual set or bars and needles with some digital adaptations too. The air conditioning is too good for a Maruti Suzuki. There are four AC ducts (two near either of the side doors and two in the middle section above the audio control panel). Unlike so many other cars this one has a good heater too. The car has a 796 cc 0.8 litre 47.3 bhp 12 V F8D petrol engine with five speed manual gear transmission. It has got an average mileage of 24 kmpl which is jaw dropping. The speedometer promises a maximum speed of 180 kmph but I was able to reach a maximum of 130 kmph in the fifth gear. The gear transmission were decently smooth. The only drawbacks I have is regarding the space and pulling power. It is comfortable for four people. But the story is way different and way rougher when the number increases. The car isn't any slope friendly too. It takes an almost precise clutch balance wisdom on upward slopes to get the car moving from 0. These are the two noticable drawbacks I found in the car. Other than that the car is perfectly safe to drive and travel. I have personally used this car and have a recorded milestone of more than 1000 kms with five people on board all the time. This Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 is definitely a blessed boon for the economy class with it's affordable prize, super efficient mileage and a more than splendid consistency and performance!!
