I have purchased this car in November, 2012 and I have driven about 5000 kms so far.
Exterior
Though a little quirky looking (atleast for me), it grows on you and after sometime you get used to it and then to like it. Still the rear bumper could have been shaped better. All tyres are of JK Vectra tubeless type. No electric ORVMs.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort)
Beige seats, beige door panels, grey and beige dashboard. And beige carpets! This is what I am unable to come to terms with. It is impossible to maintain and has to be covered fully with mats. So what is the purpose of beige carpets? Thoughtless!
The plastic quality is ok for the price paid. The dashboard is set a little high especially the middle section where the audio and AC vents are situated. But then no problem with visibility especially with seat height adjuster. This is a very good feature to have. But anyone shorter than 5'3" will have an issue.
The dashboard layout is ok and there are plenty of cubbyholes and an illuminated one also. But then the illumination of the meters in red is a little jarring. White or yellow or even blue could have been better looking and more sober. The absence of a tachometer is felt especially since I am used to one. Visibility is good all-round except at the rear which is tolerable. Seats are firm but shaped well. Front seat travel is exceptional. The rear legspace is ok if the driver and rear passenger are not above 5'6". The boot space will do nicely for a shopping trip but that is about it.
The indicator lights in the meter console are too many and you have to get accustomed to them. The absence of a temperature gauge is felt. There is only a light which lights up for two seconds after the ignition is switched on and goes off immediately. When it is continuously on, the engine is supposed to be overheating. There is no other visual indication of what the temperature is, whether it is climbing up or not etc. There is illumination control for the console lights.
One most irritating issue is the ignition key reminder function. If you do not remove the key from the switch and the door is open, it beeps continuously, even in the accessories position. The result is you are not able to do anything within the car with the door open, like tuning the radio, adjusting the audio controls or even listening to music. The Manual does not mention any method for turning it off.
The front head-restraints, though integrated, are correctly positioned. The audio system is good though the tuner sucks big time. USB and Aux-in produce very decent music but the tuner reception is bad. A very big plus for me is iPhone connectivity and playing of music stored in it. The iPhone also gets charged with its usual USB connecting wire without any other aftermarket sockets/jacks and wires.Would have loved steering mounted audio controls.
The gearshifter is ok but shifting of gears produces a noise like 'tuk tuk' which feels cheap. It could have been damped and made smoother without noise. May be it is because the shifts are not in a straight line but in different directions. The brakes are smooth but grippy.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox
The engine is surprisingly smooth for a three cylinder one and peppy also. Maruti seems to have done a good job here. The gears shift smoothly but you are able to feel the shifts. First to second happens at 15 kmph, second to third at 30 kmph and third to fourth at 45 kmph. The initial consumption figures indicated around 12 kmpl with AC in city which was ok since the car had run only about 300 kms at that time. It improved to 12.5 kmpl at the next fill and the last fill produced 13 kmpl. It is bound to improve to atleast 14 to 14.5 kmpl and I will be happy. The fuel tank capacity is 35 litres.
EDIT: "After the second service, on a recent highway trip in May, 2013, I was able to get FE of 18.9 kmpl when I maintained the speed between 80 to 90 kmph. I have not checked the city FE after second service which I will do next month and update."
Ride Quality & Handling
The suspension is on the stiffer side but not bouncy. No thudding noises from the suspension over potholes and uneven roads and the car is balanced. The steering has some vagueness at the center but then not a very big one. Steering is not very light but has good feedback. The car feels planted even at 100 kmph which was the maximum I tried.
Final Words
I chose this car over the Hyundai i-10 AT and the Honda Brio AT. The i-10 was discarded for very poor mileage. The Brio was discarded for the high price which was over my budget. I am very happy over my choice and would recommend this car to anyone looking for an AT hatch as a second car, even as a family car if boot space is not an issue.
Areas of improvement
The tuner, AT shifter noise, ignition key reminder swith off option and steering mounted audio controls.

Exterior The exterior of the car is great, specially the front shape of the car.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) The dashboard of A-star is classy & sporty. The material used for this car is good & space inside the car is very well managed with the size of the car, It looks small from outside but big inside.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox The Kseries engine makes this car a star. Fuel economy is great, I got 17kmpl with AC in city & 19kmpl with AC on express highway. Gearbox of the car is very smooth & places correctly. The stearing of the car is great.
Ride Quality & Handling Its easy to operate.
Final Words If you are planning to go for I10 or Beat just have a look @ A-star as option. The maintainance cost of the car is less, it is fuel efficient, it has airbags & ABS, it is under brand of Maruti Suzuki, There are more service centers of Maruti than any other car maker in India, Most environment friendly car with Euro 4 & 5.
Areas of improvement Nothing.

Exterior Very good.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Very extraordinary sitting comfort but lack luggage space.
ngine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Very calm and smooth, i got 16.5 kmph(with ac) in city conditions and 19 kmph in haiways.
Final Words Extraordinary ride quality and smooth handling while in city traffic also.
Areas of improvement I am very satisfied with the performance of A STAR. It is always unique, and i am enjoying the performance of K series engine.
Took the car for a test drive today (Gaurda showroom, Lalbhag Road, Bangloare). There are 3 variants, LXI, VXI and ZXI. Last one with airbag and ABS. I think for most VXI would do Now, what’s good about the car Good looks.

Now, what’s good about the car
Good looks when you compare it with i10. Interior is mix of grey and sliver, different from what I have seen so far (Beige and Black). Engine is good enough, with 4 adults and AC on, it performed well. I don’t know whether it’s the shocks or bigger tires, car took on the small potholes really well, another advantage over i10. Gear shift is precise like a digital switch. City mileage is around 15kms (from Showroom rep).
What not good about this car
Space, you really feel cramped inside and more so in the back seat (I am 5.9 tall). Boot space is nothing, can’t even keep a midsize suitcase or traveler bag. Access to boot is not convenient due to high position, you have to lift the luggage really high to keep it there. Defiantly it will be a problem when you have to place heavy luggage. There is a bulge in the dashboard at the center which looks good but this might be problem for some as it affects road view. Control pedals (accelerator, break and clutch) again positioned high, you really have to push your leg to reach them which makes your leg touch the front of the dash board, not comfortable at all. Interior plastic feel cheap. Break lights are bulged out from the body, high chances of damage in high traffic place like our metros.
Though on road price will be less than i10, I think i10 or even Palio 1.3 diesel is more practical.

It was a much awaited car for me. A great style statement. Most of my friends are feeling proud about my much long waited decision.
Small but powerful engine, with good effeciency. A futuristic car with lots of features, with a sporty looks. As its a Maruti vehicle, i need not worry about the service part and availability of parts.
I got a great safety package for my family in an affordable price. The only thing that worries me is the rear space when i occupied with my friends. But still i am satisfied, as i can't expect a space of big car in compact segment.

Finally after days of moving around in the market , browsing at all options (i-10 , Swift, Wagon-R, Spark even the i20) i decided to opt for the A-star ZXi.
After having driven Maruti Wagon R for the last 3 years and esteem before that.. i am confident of a Maruti serving me again faithfully.
To state my needs, i was looking for a city vehicle which is good on FE, pleasure to drive DAILY to work and back, good feature and looks, Weekend outings with my family (wife and two small angels). The A-star suited my needs the best.
I agree with many that there are negatives the A-star has viz.
1] Cramped rear seat - Leg room for the rear passenger is less, but not cramped as what is said about.. infact i checked practically and concluded that at a Normal driving position of a driver (5.6 ht driver) the rear seat provided enough leg room to a (5.10 ht passenger). (similar to a wagon r). Yes.. the Third person at the back means its a tight fit... but all hatchbacks face the same issue.. maybe not in the swift...or Getz
2] Boot - SMALL or may be non existance... but i do not carry suitcases to work everyday.. so not an issue (atleast not in city drives) for long vacation drives.. yes.. boot space will be missed .. but as per my calculation... the A-Star will accomodate 1 suitcase less than the wagon r in the boot. (my wagon r accomodated 1 large suitcase or 2 suitcases and 2 small bags..)
I could have opted for the Maruti Swift but since i drive 60 kms everday FE was something which A-star wins over the SWIFT. Swift diesel definitely would have been a great option for me.. but 8 weeks waiting and a 1.5 lac more was not worth it...
i-10 kappa was also a great option but again the A-star wins on FE, cost and features on the ZXI. The legroom is almost as similar in a A-star maybe some inches better in i-10.. but seating 4 is comfortable in A-star too... Boot in i-10 is better yes... but the same argument with the wagon r won me over.
The A-star in drive - Much refined engine , excellent gear shift ( better than the swift and i-10 and much better than the wagon -r ), better ratios and better suspension. Very responsive than the i-10... i guess similar to a swift

Exterior The exterior looks good, classy and aerodynamic.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Front seats very comfortable, seats adjustable including height.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Pick up superb, Fuel economy unbelievable, got 15Km/l from Leh to Manali with four passengers and luggage, even while crossing passes at 17000 ft+.
Ride Quality & Handling Suspension is very good and handles pot holes and unmetalled surfaces very well. At high speed (I drove upto 145 km/hr) the car is very stable. The braking with ABS is very good.
Final Words Automatic has its advantage, did not have to change gears frequently on very rough terrains and high gradients. On plains it is a breeze. I was able to drive at 130 even in driving rains. The road grip is superb. On the mountains, left Sumos and Taveras far behind even with full passenegr load and luggage. Superb car with good value for money.
Areas of improvement Would be happier with more leg room in rear and more boot space. For safety ASTAR -AT should be equipped with air bags which is lacking.
Superb road handling, pick up, power on demand, driver's delightBack seat cramped, boot-space limited, No air bagsExterior/Styles

Horrible lack of home work from maruti. No space inside the car. Suffocating feeling inside the car as their is spacing problem. There is not enough space between rear and front seats. Not a comfortable car at all. Person must think thrice before purchasing the car.
Good fuel Economy but to be testedless space inside the car. Dont buy if purchasing it for family.Exterior/Styles

Hi
I checked this car today , and have sat in the driver and the rear seat.
The rear seat is comfortable for people like me with average height of 5.3. But if you are tall. then you will have difficulty during long drives
There is not enough space in the dikki for keeping enough luggage. The height of the dikki is more so you need to lift your luggage more before keeping it in the car.
Looks wise it is good but not sure of the performance.
This is just one step above M800, but no competition with any small segment cars in the market.
Swetha, Hyderabad
stylish , mileage sounds good but have not tried.less luggage space, boot is high, driver seat is low( not comfortable), not for tall people
