Hi,
The purpose of this review of the LOGAN is, when i wanted to decide -- i did not have a good enough review to bank upon...
I am a driving enthusiast -- love my bikes and cars -- have done over 150k miles on the road so far...
primary purpose of the car -- daily commute to the office & weekend getaways with the family....
I got the LOGAN 3 weeks ago, and three weeks down the line, most of my expectations have been met.
I got the top version - diesel 1.5DLx and here is the summary of my feedback, please note that this feedback is based on the fact that I as a user went in for a economy car and not a luxury sedan:
1) Body and Finish: Mahindra could have done a better job on the finishing part, but overall i would say -- not bad at all.
2) Top version: comes with added features such as central lock, digital stereo system + more. On the stereo specifically, i have a ear for good sound and i would not recommend the stereo system that comes built in. Plus it is a plain CD system (no MP3) and the speakers do not deliver the power.
3) Performance: I love this baby. Have read some reviews on the hard steering and gear stick, i would say -- the steering is slightly stiff, but it has eased down remarkably in the past three weeks. Plus I use the steering stick to drive so that makes it more easy. But on the crowded roads of mumbai, i love the reponse of this baby. The engine delivers good power for pick up and i cruise very easily till about 100-120. I have felt some resistance after 120 kmph but i havent really tried crossing 120kmph as this is a new car...! so maybe can revert back on this in the next few weeks as i cross the 1500 km on my meter.
4) Space: I am 6'3", and not many cars make me feel comfortable... the LOGAN does the job.
5) Drive control: Drives easy at 120 KMPH, i have not noticed any wobble or any type of imbalace/unsteadiness. Brakes well till about 70-80, but at higher speeds, the car shakes in a bit -- but i will need to drive a bit more to comment on this aspect.
6) A/C and other electicals (lights etc): Good.
7) Electronics: The car comes in with fuel indicator and temperature indicator and milage meter. However i have not configured the fuel and temperature indicator -- which currently show an analog output (bar chart). I have not yet touched/seen through the electronics, but i can say these are nothing out of the world.
Overall, a great economy car. My recommendation is that if you have some time to spare, go for the middle version that is almost 50k cheaper and then get the keyless entry and the deck fitted in separately as per your liking. Other than that -- LOGAN = a cool car with a lot of economic sense.
cheers,
NB.

I recently had a test drive of Logan 1.4L petrol topend version. I really enjoyed the drive. Engine is very refined. Gear shift is very smooth. Interiors look classy. Its has the widest tyres in its class giving very good road grip. But was a little bumpy on smaller potholes.
It has a wide and respectable look. Very spacious and comfortable inside. The maker has been generous when it comes to space. It has a 510 litre boot space. Good leg space & head room. I being a 6 feet tall guy , found it very comfortable. With AC on and windows tightly closed , i had a very rosy drive! ... Engine makes absolutely no sound at all !!
The balance of power , torque and pick up is quite good. Overall good driving pleasure but found a little bumpy on smaller potholes. Gound clearance is average.
Tyres(tubeless radials) are 15 % wider than Hyundai Acsent and widest in its class , the result - fantastic road grip.
Interiors are classy and stylish , colour of the interiors are sober and look respectable , but the interior design is standard and no options to choose from like other vendors offer. Has a pretty good cockpit. But power window / central locking buttons look a little simple.
The car looks majestic from the front and sides. The rear view lacks a little in styling and looks old fashioned. But with an extra spoilers with break lights fitted on the boot can solve this problem , making it look stylish. Alloy wheels really make the car look sporty. The car looks best in Red and Beige shades(personal opinion).
One more negative point is - the wiper and indicator shafts have been interchaged. Wiper at the right and indicator shaft at the left. It may sound a little confusing at the beginning , but can be buried down with time. This is adopted from the european styling I guess.
As per dealer , the mileage would be 11 km/ltr in city and 14 km/ltr on highway (with AC and music ON) , which is quite good.
Safety wise , all models have collapsible steering which is a strong point to consider .. while topend models have air-bag and honeycomb designed chassis as an addition.
Pricing is 5.2 lakhs on road (Bangalore) - high end model (1.6L petrol) which is 2 lakhs cheaper than its deisel brethern. TRUE VALUE FOR MONEY. [You can cover two years of your fuel cost by buying a petrol car ;-)]
I would like to summarise - its the best car in terms of 'Value for money' .. Refined noiseless engine , best gear shift in its class , looks respectable , wide body , spacious and classy interiors , superb boot / leg space , fantastic road grip and good driving pleasure.
I beleive this is the best car for an upper-middle-class indian family.

I purchased the car in August 2007, its almost 37000 kms but for me its still performing like a new car, no maintainance, no complaint, just pleasure. I will use the car for 5 years and after that I will again purchase a New LOGAN Only.
The visibility is great, you can see all sides comfortably, Ground Clearance is good, I drive most in rural area, but never touched the car to any road. Great leg room, boot space, height, width.
I feel instead of putting your money in the costly cars which does not gives returns like LOGAN, you should opt for LOGAN only. Its the real Value for Money Car.
The marketing of Logan is not appreciable, I thing its a Bad Marketing of a Superior Product, due to which the sale is not up to the mark.
Inspite of Powerfull Engine fuel economy is Good, Very Comfortable, Easy to Drive, Value for money,Very good Car but bad Marketing, steering is slightly hard.Exterior/Styles

Exterior: At first I didn't like the design but later on I overcome that feeling. The color was white which looks very great when viewed from 1metre distance. Or when the car is motion we observe the car in the right opposite side of the road the car looks great from front and also from the rear. The design is not great if compared with other cars but it is more than enough for the price it is being sold.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort): Oh! what a spacious interior and it was light greenish in colour which also looks and feel very pleasant when you are inside the car. I had specially tailor made the seat covers from G Sports, Bengaluru which was exactly matching with the interior colour combination. Seats were very comfortable during the long journeys.I never ever felt tired sitting during the long journry. Even though I only drove the whole of Journey from Mumbai-Goa-Mangalore-Goa-Mumbai I was not at all tired or fatigued. Rest was taken for morning breakfast at Nagothane at M/s Kamaths Hotel on the Highway itself. Second at Chiplun for the Lunch in the afternoon and late evening reached Goa for night Halt. I don't drive night Journey. Second morning started from Goa and reaached Mangalore again late in the evening.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox: Driving the car for the total 2000+RTKM(Round Trip Kilo Metre) was my life's one of my dream coming true and after that I am fully satisfied with the fulfillment of my dream. Driving the car on NH 17 is a great experience during the day time only because the traffic density is very less and very less vehicle also come from the opposite direction. Thus the road is yours most of the time only thing is that we have to be alert of the Cows/dogs/other small animals cross the road very often. I loved the engine performance and also I got an average of 22km without A/c on and 20 km with A/c. Gearbox is also very fantastic to operate with five gears.
Ride Quality & Handling: I drove almost at the 80-90 km/hrs and slowed down in the ghat section Logan grips the road very nicely and never ever I felt jittery. Driving was really a pleasure which I experienced at that time. Always be in control of the car and never ever overspeed which can lead to untoward incidents.
Final Words: "A GREAT CAR WHICH IS APPRECIATED WORLDWIDE AND ALSO DRIVEN ". AT FIRST MY OPNION WAS NOT GOOD ABOUT LOGAN, BUT WHEN I ACTUALLY GOT IN THE DRIVER SEAT AND EXPERIENCED THE DRIVE AND THE COMFORT LATER I HAD MY OPNION CHANGED.
Areas of improvement: I do not have any words to describe. Already a very good Entry Mide-size sedan.
I got a very good average while driving on Highway NH 17( Mumabi-Goa-Mangalore-Goa-Mumbai)The remark in Autocar saying it is boxy in design.Exterior/Styles

I went for the logan gls after a thorough research on all the cars available in the market. All cars are good but logan has got an excellent blend of performance, stability and fuel efficiency. The car has got its own personality and although you cannot rate the looks against a honda city or a civic, its got its own character nevertheless.
I got a fuel efficiency of 16km/ltr on the highway and remember, even the first servicing is yet to be done. The efficiency normally improves after the first service.
I shall post my next review after about 2000 kmof running ,thanks.

I bought the LOGAN Petrol 1.4GLX in Dec '07 and so far it has run about 9000Kms. My observations are as below:
REASON FOR BUYING: I wanted a Sedan with comfortable seating for 5 members and adequate boot space at reasonable Cost. On this count the LOGAN qualifies for 5/5.
PRO's: Excellent space, clear all round view, Dashboard layout - except for positioning of the AC On/Off switch. The On/Off LED is hidden from direct view and this is a drawback. Feel it can easily be resolved by MAHINDRA rotating the Switch through 90 degrees! Reasonably good AC.
Driving Experience:
CONS: Found that the Power Steering is a bit Hard and Car is slightly heavy to steer. Also the clutch has to be depressed fully for First gear engagement. Some unexplained minor squeaks and rattles are present! The direction of the Wipers is not a problem BUT what is unsettling is that at slow speed it throws water on its return which is a bit disconcerting. Front seat bottom has to be made flat, currently there is a small depression to the rear which causes some discomfort. Rear seat is extremely comfortable.
PRO's: Smooth to drive, Excellent ride quality, in fact much better than quite a few High end Sedans. Beige interiors is pleasant. Have read quite a bit about the non-availability of Power window controls on the hand rests but considering what we pay, (approx. 1 lakh less for this car) this can easily be overlooked and the Central Controls are conviently placed. Great Boot space allows for storing of lots of luggage on trips.
MILEAGE: City - Regularly get around 11 Kms (50% AC). Semi-Highway - 13-14 Kms. Highway - Not yet done any really long drives in the LOGAN.
OVERALL: Good value for money. As I said earlier, if you are clear in your objective of buying a Large SEDAN with comfortable seating and decent performance at an affordable price, LOOK NO FURTHER. As I was clear on this count, I am happy with the deal!
