Took a test drive of this car today.
The car surely lacks in the engine refinement. The gear shift was a bit harsh. The plastics seems ok to justify its price.
The seats were very comfortable. The height is more than Innova.
Iam using Innova for the last 3 years. I still feel that Innova is a much better product but seems overpriced in comparison to Xylo.
Its E4 model would surely be of the liking of the taxi fleet owners while the top model should be able to attract many family buyers with tight budget.
Overall a good a Value for Money product.

Xylo had the price advantage. But now that is gone. Actually after a lot of thought and little compromise I had settled to buy an E8. But suddenly thie below happened.
1) The day I took the test drive I was told that the onroad price is Rs926000. But after 5 days (Next weekend)
when I reached the Dealer to pay the advance, I came to know that the same day early morning, the rate is increased
to 943000 (A Rs 17000 increase). That also without any value addition to the poduct.
* The price was one advantage with Xylo. So that's gone for sure. Quality and service wise, The mile stone is Toyota. It may take a decade to reach.
Why they increased the rate with such a huge amount, no body knows. No explanation for that.
Who knows, the day you get the delivery of that car, you may find a much bigger number on your bill.
I guess Mahindra should get tuition from Tata (A Quote from Ratan Tata : 'A Promie is a Promise').
I agree, Mahindra didn't promise, but increasing the rate by such a huge amount within a month of it's release,
I didn't fell good. I felt cheated some how. I read, in a month they have booked around 4000 cars. May be they
became greedy.
2)For E8, very limited (Likeble) colors are offered. In E8 some how I managed to like the Red Toredo and Gold Shimmer.
Red cars attracts a lot of unwanted attention (Along with wanted ones), it's presence is complete felt. Also I am
not in late 20 :) This car is not targeted to very young peolpe (On young Red will go well). During resale, all family
man may not find this attractive. So I thought to go for Gold Shimmer.
But Gold Shimmer's interior is deep black (What a furnance?). You can't choose interior color too. Because of global warming, day by day temperature is increasing. So this deep black interior will make you feel very uneasy inside it and will increase the fuel consumption.
Now I have nothing to choose from.
My time is completely wasted. I have already asked the dealer to refund my money (Hope they will return it sooner). That's why people say, there is a lot in a brand name and they ask little premium for this. It takes huge time to build that. Thoug Mahindra has spent time but some how they missed this kind of basic behaviors towards consumer. Because of this we can trust a foreign brand more than our own brand. If this is the level of service before buying, then after you buy, what will happen? I feel very bad to write all these. Now I am going for Innova... It took little time for me to realise this.

I bought a Xylo E6 on January 2010 and to my utter dismay and shock I realised that the features that were shown to me on my test drive was miserably missing. Worst part is that the the spec sheet handed over to me while I was booking the vehicle even had the features in black and white. When I collected my vehicle I realised the following features missing:
1. Built in music system ( that they have removed from the current spec sheet, but was there when I booked. The dealer was left completely red faced and eventually gave me a music system free but it stole the entire show of the front console)
2. Lower back lumber support in the two front seats are missing
3. Puddle lamps
4. Utility tray under the driver’s seat
5. Petro card with a credit of Rs 10,000/- (it was supposed to have arrived after three weeks of purchase, yet there is no news of it even after three months.
I am yet to recv any word from Mahindra after lodging a complaint through their feedback agent.
I seriously would ask who wishes to buy a Mahindra product to think twice...

"Great vehicle that has combination of latest engineering and comforts"
I purchased Mahindra Xylo E8 (Toreador Red) in April 2009 at Sireesh Showroom in Bangalore. I have clocked 5000 Kms till now. Xylo is very comfortable to drive with good suspension and smooth handling.
I used to drive Fiesta and Tavera before. When I took a test drive of Xylo, I was really surprised with the superior quality vehicle produced by Mahindra. Generally Mahindra was known for Rough and Tough Variants, but with Xylo they have proved that Mahindra can produce best in the class vehicles.
Thanks to four years of Mahindra's research to launch such a good vehicle.
Pros:
1) M-Eagle engine is very much refined engine that offers great power, smoothness and one never feels that Xylo is a diesel car.
2) Great Interiors and ample leg space even for the last row seats (have not seen this much space for last row seats in any other MUVs). Seats can be converted into comfortable beds and that's interesting.
3) Good features like Back Sonar (helps to park such heavy vehicle with out any pain) and Automatic Head light On (Only during dark) features are very helpful.
4) Powerful AC with one touch High and Low option is useful feature (Cools the entire vehicle within 2-3 minutes on AC High mode)
5) Good ground clearance and Road grip (Tubeless Tyres comes with vehicle).
6) Flight like folding to hold the food and magazines on middle row seats and also arm rest is a nice feature for long distance travelling.
7) Accurate and neat Driver assistance system, Good music system (I think this is available only in E8 models)
8) Mileage is around 13-14 Kmpl (with most of the time AC on) and Vehicle Service is for every 10000 Kms. Change of Regular Parts like Air filter, Oil Change, Coolant change etc is for 30000-60000 Kms (In regular Diesel Engine, its before 30000 kms)
Cons:
1) Exterior looks of car is not that nice.
2) Interior door open Knobs are not good quality.
3) Lacks Airbags which would have been good security feature.
4) Luggage space at the back door is very less compared to other vehicles.

I roadtested the Xylo E8 this weekend. They were showing the car at a mall the previous day, and I had become very interested after looking at all the features. The car seemed to promise real value for money. Hence the roadtest....
In terms of features, the car is very loaded. In addition to standard luxury features like Power Windows, Power Steering etc, the following caught my fancy:
* Reverse Parking Assist with a display on the Rear View Mirror
* Drivers Digital Assist - a small screen above the centre console showing tripmeter, DTE (Distance to Empty), Seatbelt warning etc
* 2 Small lights accompanying the mirror behind the Passenger Sunvisor. Useful for women who want to check their make up at night :-)
* Front passenger seat and middle row seat fall flat to create an absolutely flat bed! Wonderful for passengers on long journeys.
* Adjustable AC vents for all the passenger rows
After being thoroughly impressed with all the features on offer, I roadtested the car the following day. The actual roadtest was a big disappointment. The much touted "mEagle" engine is thoroughly unrefined. The whole car shuddered on startup, picked up speed slowly. On the expressway, the engine sound and vibrations turned pretty coarse once past 100 kmph. The gearbox had very long throws. The handling of the car was also not very confidence inspiring, wallowing all over the place under hard cornering.
A word about the interiors. Mahindra intends to position this car as a competitor to mid-size sedans. However, the quality of plastics used and the general interior fit-n-finish is far inferior to (say) a Fiesta or Verna.
Here's my overall opinion...If you're in the market for a midsize sedan, buy a midsize sedan! The xylo's VFM promise simply doesnt stand when compared to its (un)refinement and fit-n-finish. If you're in the market for an MUV and have the cash, buy an Innova or even a Tavera! They're much more refined and easy to live with as personal vehicles.
So the only person the Xylo will appeal to is probably someone with a big family who desperately wants a big car, but doesnt have the cash for anything better.

Exterior
Looks the same as the E series except for much smaller wheels which gives an odd look as if it was put there by mistake.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort)
Quite good and even the third row seat feels quite comfortable maybe even more than the E2 which I test drove first. Dual AC is an added feature which is not there in the E2
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox
Won't feel much difference in ride even though the HP is only 95. Slight sluggishness but overall very good response
Ride Quality & Handling
Very good ride quality especially at slow speeds
Final Words
Am quite happy with it and hope it will give me good performance in the long run.
Areas of improvement
Changing the size of the wheels I feel is a must and I don't understand why they decreased wheel size even though build is the same. They should also give more colour options instead of just three. Also quality of plastics should be improved especially door latches

I am a proud owner of top indian automaker's xylo E8.I have paddled it to almost 5000 kms.Compaed to power it pays good milage of 15 to 16 kms/ltr on highway.Engine along with body is calm & quiet.I am well aware that driving in India is not one like in Dubai, keeping gas paddle for the range between 80 to 90 km/hr keeps engine smooth & healthy. Moreover I am using BP diesel additive which has smoothened engine further. My decision not to go for Innova proved to be right. Thanks to Mahindra. No ABS & air bags?We need to have it guys to make it a perfect MUV.

I bought a Mahindra Xylo late last month. Having been a satisfied Scorpio SLX CRDe owner for last 3 years, i was inclined to buy another Mahindra brand. I test drove a Safari LX, Innova G model and Tavera Neo. I found for mostly city and occasional highway , Innova & Xylo better suited. Safari ruled out owing to riging and inflexible second and third seating. Tavera ruled out in the first instance itself. Innova has acquired more of a luxury taxi reputation. Hence decided to buy a Xylo.
After making a comparison and costing of E4, E6 and E8 versions, i decided to buy a E4 with accessories decked up. I got a good 5% discount on the vehicle, Free Insurance and 20% discount on the accessories. I chose a Fiery Black Xylo. I negotiated with dealer without SFK that they usually charge and got a whole lot of accessories such as full chrome kit, body decals, Floor Mats, reverse camera, 9" LCD and DVD system, In cabin Antenna, Mudflaps, cushions and many more installed.
My purchase experience has been good and have driven about 600 kms till date. More reviews after the first service when i will know the xylo performance better.

Exterior Not good for entering any beauty contest. But very utilitarian.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Loads of space. Can seat eight people in comfort. For luggage, please use a roof carrier. No eight seater has enough space to keep luggage inside. But we can keep lots of luggage under the seats, if packed properly in brief/ suit cases of proper size.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox D2 has a good engine. Low noise. Vibration is not more than that of any other diesel car/ SUV/MPV. Gear box is smooth and shifting gears is as easy as any other car. Average mileage is 12.5 KMPL which compares favourably with any other vehicle.
Ride Quality & Handling Good ride quality and handling. I find driving my XYLO easier than any other vehicle, even in the city.
Final Words I purcahsed the vehicle in March 2010 and has covered about 7500 KM till date. I have not met with any problem till date and my family loves travelling in the XYLO than any other vehicle. I have never felt tired while driving the vehicle even on long stretches extending to 600 KM. Please note that I am 59 years old and loves driving. Because of its Jeep DNA I feel that it is best suited for Kerala where roads do not exist for a major part of the year, especially after a heavy monsoon. I will recommend XYLO to any one who loves undertaking long trips. The number of XYLOs on road itself is a proof of its success.
Areas of improvement Well plastics can be of a better quality. More powerful head lamps and fog lamps on all models will be welcome.
Good fuel economy, roomy interiors, very good AC with louvers for all three rowsPlastic not up to the desired level. Appears to be fragile.

I was using a small car before. Buying a MUV is a new experience for me.
I purchased XYLO E2 about 20 days back. I have done about 1200 KMS. I have travelled on the highway as well on city roads. I am still not sure about the mileage as I got 9 KMS/Ltr on city roads and 12 on highway. I hope this increases after the first service. I will be happy if someone who has used the vehicle little more can tell me about the fuel economy. After a week of purchase I had problem with the AC, however it was rectified and now it is OK. I hope it does'nt trouble me in future.
The drive is excellent and I am happy that I took the decision to buy XYLO. Great driving comfort and ofcourse the family is extremely happy with the comfort level. Stylish. The space inside is excellent & you can use it as you want. The control is very good.
As regard to additional features in E8, I have installed most of them with much less cost than I would have paid for E8.
M&M needs to look at the finish of the vehicle. There is lot of improvement required ( both in interior & exterior ).
M&M needs to improve the quality of dealership. The process has to improve instead of one or two employees trying to win over the customer. Ambience needs drastic improvement. As a customer I was not impressed with the dealership.
I will get back after using the vehicle for some more time.
