Well This review is for people who are thinking about gettiing SUV for indian roads. I was once in the same condition and was stuck up between Scorpio and Safari. So I thouht of a reversial way of getting a car. I went to all used car delers and asked 'em that I have a safari and I need tot sell it and same with scorpio. Used Cae delers are the most crooked people living in india after politicians and they all rated scoripo better then safari. And after a lotta research I finally made up my mind to go with Mahindra Scorpio.
Now, when I thought of getting one scorpio which varient to buy, so many of 'em and the price difference betweem varients is close to 60000/- so I decided to get a 4x4 version and thats the vehile one should look forward. WOOOO Amazing performance. The day I bought this thing, we're out on a roll. I just changed the engine oil on every 10000 KMs, this thing is soo awesome and tough. Only thinkg I hate about scorpio is, ITS very common but when u driving it, its like RIDING A BEAST. My Scorpio is almost 1 and half year old and almost 100000 KMS done, and I am still crazy for it.
I am very happy with it. and u can read the review of elder brother who bought tata sfari 2.2VTT, he sold it in less than an year. Thats a piece of junk by TATA, god bless JAG's and Range Rovers.
Exterior Its an SUV, I just need lights. Happy with it.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort): good, music system sucks but I got my own thing, so now happy.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Preety cool performance, Milage is 10 in all conditions, Gearbox is shaky but Its a beast so works for me.
Ride Quality & Handling Superb and Handling makes it best in the class even better than expensive toys from ford and toyota.
Final Words SCORPIO is Funn.
Areas of improvement Spare tyre is hard to open and re-fit.

Exterior
She is built to impress. She turns heads and keeps bikes, autos and most small cars at bay. She is as sturdy as a fortress. I've been head butted by a water tanker and a bus on two separate occasions (not my mistake on both), and there are marks on her which are almost invisible. She is as photogenic as a kingfisher calendar model. The arches and the curves all merge with each other. I had one friend from the US commenting that she looks one mean looking machine with her gladiator style bumpers. No wonder, she is the most desirable SUV.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort)
I am all of 6'2" and I fit quite snugly inside her. The seats provide the right back and thigh support to ensure a very comfortable long drive. Leg space is considerable and though I push the driver's seat right back, my family is quite comfortable in the middle row of seats. The built in 2din is adequate for me as I dont expect humongous bass boost in the car. The feature I use the most is the bluetooth enabled handsfree to attend conference calls on the move. The blue-vision headlamps are also quite bright and I dont have to squint to look ahead. Also, there is something that I dont think anyone else anywhere has written on; the hella horns. The blare is enough to scare truck drivers from butting in without notice. The reversing sensors are also very helpful in guiding me to park my beauty perfectly.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox
She is a year old now and with 16500 kms on the odo, gives me an efficiency of 12 Kms per litre of diesel (with AC) in the city. The engine is a bit sluggish at low rpms but she more than compensates when she is in groove. The gearbox is user friendly, no rubbery engage, no long throws. You need to feel her when she is in turbo (more than 85 kmph), there is no uncertainty, just thrill.
Ride Quality & Handling
To know her is to feel her....the feedback is just excellent. Those who feel that big cars are difficult to manouver will be pleasantly surprised. The steering has the right feel, not light at high speeds nor heavy at low. The suspension is soft and a wee bit bumpy but I think I need that in Mumbai where the road conditions are disastrous. She is a pleasure to drive and especially as I've already spoken, the turbo buzz is addictive when she crosses 85 kmph. She is built to thrill.
Final Words
For anyone looking for a SUV at 11-13 lakhs, the Scorpio VLX is a must buy. She is loaded with features and there will be no regrets. Remember the slogan....Nothing else will do.
Areas of improvement
Mahindra, I feel, need to be more stringent in their quality checks on parts when they dispatch their Scorpios from the factories. There are minor niggles that could leave a sour taste. If these are taken care of, I dont feel there is a better VFM SUV in the 11L - 20L price range.

Exterior New front grills are attractive , but still the boxshaped body needs an overall remodelling., But still it has got admirers, followers and owners, who'll never regret.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Interiors have improved considerably, but the positions of the door opening lever is awkward, also is the flimsy quality of the lever. if you are heavily built having appx 6 ft height , then yo'll feel uncomfortable as your body touches the door cladings, same is the case with the leg room, pedals are awkward and is very hard. space and scorpio does not go syncronised., you have decent space inside in the car barring the third row. the second row seats in sle can be moved backward if needed. Storage space in the dash board is very poor , and the glove box is very disaapointing. i wish mahindra would redesign its best selling model, giving utility space a good thought.
Travel quality inside the car is above average, pls dont expect the superior suspension quality of safari or ride quality of innova, but scorpio has its true advantage with the cost, maintanence of this car is less expensive and parts are cheapers compared to its competetors. comfortably 3-4 people can sit and travel in th rear seat during long trips. A bit off roading also can be confidently undertaken.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox One thing to point out is the steady mielage. i get approximately 10- 11 km perlitre in the city and 14 per litre in the highways, mielage is far better than innova and at par with the safari 2.2vtt. Gear box is smooth when compared to its competetion, but it totally depends on the seat and driving position. the clutch pedal is very hard and foot rest is not available. long drives can be very tiresome for the driver as the seat and the leg position is not comfortable for long drives( i mean 4-5 hrs drive) where innova is a leader, and safari is better. Engine may be very reliable, silent and very less vibration/rattling. 120 ps does reflect but still no sudden pick up. according to me safari scores better in this area as a driver u'll enjoy the power delivery. 140ps refined pick up and drive.
Ride Quality & Handling Driver will get accustomed to this vehicle very easily, good turning radius, with improved suspension the rear seat travellers can sit comfortably while the driver enjoys his drive. handles well in corners but not to be compared with toyota innova but definitely far better than the Tata Safari. Highway drive will be better if there are min two rear seat passengers, the vehicle smoothly glides over the indian roads. handling is very good and the driver will feel very confident during cruising and overtaking. can drive a scorpio very confidently in the city. Tyres provided were MRF wanderer which compliments well with the ride quality. ABS comes handy, and i would suggest not to compromise on this feature.
Final Words Value for money deal. the vehicle does not boast much, and you'll not fall short of any thing. The car has got decent power, rides well both in good and bad roads. very less rattling compared to tata vehicles. confident driving. not a family car but its a people mover or the driver will enjoy every bit of the drive. i would recommend a model with abs, which is very important.service is not that costly. Yes the vehicle can be confidently bought, its a proven car.
Areas of improvement Need more utility space, dashboard needs rework. Not that happy with the service tie up with TVS.

The double cab concept has never caught on in India.
The getaway looks fantastic, feels well engineered and drives well. Nice, tough, decent space in the back to carry coffee bags, tea or other farm produce.
Seats 2 comfortably plus 2 relatively smaller characters can sit behind the front driver/passenger seats.
Fantastic tyres / tyre size etc.
It is silly not to be able to fold down the rear seats, for personal luggage etc because one can hardly keep personal luggage in the truck like open rear area!
However an 8.5 lac MINI TRUCK like vehicle is not really ideal for our country where the value seeker will simply not buy.
The Hot Rod Rich boys who want to prove that they are macho men and belong to a certain "lifestyle" bracket may buy this vehicle, but frankly, how many such people are there?
This is however (despite the expensive price tag) a great utility car for airports, tow trucks (with a few modifications), break down services, garage services, veterinary services (you can transport a sick animal in the back with a little care and modifications made. Of course the standard heavy duty towhook which Mahindra sells, needs to be fitted to the getaway.
This can be used to pull a Horse box somewhat like the way Landrovers are used in the UK and other places.
But end of the day, this car is very expensive and most normal users will opt for the more comfortable, spacious (effective useable space) and useful, Scorpio SUV Variant.
This is a niche product and how big this niche is, is yet to become clear!
Great looking. Useful if you are a rich farmer.Double cab concept has never caught on in India

Hi friends...i bought mahindra scorpio 2.2 mhawk vlx last week only and till now i have travelled more than 1000 kms in it and one thing i have to say is that the ride quality of scorpio has improved very much,i mean its very comfortable in the middle row but the last seat row is not that much good..the a.c of the scorpio is very very powerful as it hardly takes 30 secs to give you cold chills...adding to it are the automatic features which new mhawk comes with, personally i liked the automatic engine cut off feature.......i am getting an mileage of around 12kmpl in delhi traffic and on highways i clocked 15kmpl but i never crossed the 80km speed limit on highway...i think buying a scorpio is really an good idea plus you gets road respect which you won't get in innova(no offense to innova lovers).
thanks
amit.
Its been one month now that i am driving around town in my new scorpio vlx and now i am facing the first problem with it:-The micro hybrid button which is supposed to switch off the engine while the suv is in neutral position had stopped working.I think out of 10 times i tried it,it only responded max 4 times. Also i will like to tell my friends who are in mood of buying the scorpio is that the fit and finish of this suv is very pathetic,i mean to say the plastic which is used on outside of the suv is so bad fitted that you can see the gapes in it very clearly.Similarly the cover of the glove box in the dashboard won't close until you devote 2-3 minutes in closing it because it so badly fitted in the dashboard..
The good thing is that i am getting a mileage of 12kmpl in city and 15kmpl on the highway apart from the pleasure of crushing bad pot holes and fear on the faces of drivers of small cars.I have also installed the gps security navigator in my suv which helps me track my car any where in india and i can also switch off the ignition from my mobile through a single sms and the engine would simply die untill i will send one more sms to start it up.

This is my second review, as promised, when i wrote my first one approx. 3 years back. (heres the link http://www.carwale.com/research/mahindra-cars/scorpio/userreviews/1579.html) I still believe Scorpio to be the Best SUV, though i'm without a car for almost a month now, the only car i can think of buying is a Scorpio.
However I dont think my 12 lacs are cheap, I have been robbed twice Once by Mahindras and second by some 3rd grade jackass who thinks, the only way to make money is by stealing.
All the claims by Mahindra of Engine immobilizers to prevent theft are a myth. Its so easy to steal a scorpio that its the most robbed car in the country. I'm sure Mahindras are well aware of this fact but choose to do nothing.
I hope Mahindras can be sued for misrepresentation of facts while selling me this car. Buy this car at your own risk. Whats the point in having a brilliant car loaded with features which can be easily stolen by a roadside lowlife.
ManyMahindras doing a fine Con job
