      Exterior:

The new i20 is even better looking than the previous one. The major difference includes front & rear lamps & the bonnet line. Also the colour options are amazing provided you look beyond the White / Red / Silver. I picked up a Bronze i20 Magna.

      Interior (Features, Space & Comfort):

Amongst the few reasons I chose i20 over Polo were its Interiors. The interiors are soothing & I bet you wont get over it soon. A small piece of advice, if you can stretch (dont worry, the dealers increase the bargain with this upgrade), go for the Magna (O) which has the Company fitted Music System & Multi Information Display. More than the price, its the look it brings to the Car that matters instead of getting a new one from outside. But this is completely a personal choice.  The seat fabric is amazing. Only upgrade if you want leather or want to save the originals from wet people in this rainy season.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox:

The Engine does a fantastic job in the city. The refinement is amazing & comparable to that of a Honda's car. Dont worry about lowering your gears with the A/C ON, you'll be amazed at its capabilities. I haven't been able to verify the Fuel Economy yet cause I've barely done a couple hundred kilometers. The gear shifts are smooth. I believe the more you treat her well, the more your get in return.

      Ride Quality & Handling:

The bads come in now. Suspension is set at par with international market. Considering Indian Roads, you'll be a little disappointed with the Suspension. Anything more than a pebble and she'll deny to absorb it. Be gentle there. The steering is extremely light. To an extent where it can take a while to get a hang of it.

      Final Words:

Drive, its a great buy for a sober driver. For others, pick a Polo instead. Looks, Polo is a competition. Interiors, Polo isn't a competition. No car is. Not exactly a value for money (get a Honda Brio instead with ABS, EBD etc for 5.25 Lacs) .

      Areas of improvement:

Definitely the suspension. I've heard Fuel Economy needs an improvement too. But as I said, I've heard, not experienced. Enthusiasm, is again something I haven't experienced yet. So, no comments. Give me a while to update this post in a month's time.

Exterior I own the 2011 August model not the iGen. I like the looks of the exterior, front, side and rear. looks chunky and posh with the right curves. Sleek silver is nice when clean and polished. Though I wanted the berry red/blue.

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) The dashbrd blue lights look great in the night. Looks like sitting in an airplane cockpit. After 25k all the switches and knobs are still sturdy and work well. Right power window makes a light thud noise when operated. One touch power window for driver.  I like the fit and finsh of the intergrate ICE and AC vents. Design is unique and very nice.  Quality of fabric and plastics is good . Big glove box with cooling. Useful to keep that cool drink cool on long drives. so far no accessories other than stock. Have to change the floor mats though. Have never used the USB and Aux. Hope they work. I like soft spiritual music so the stock ICE is great for me.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Diesel clatter is evident but quite controlled even though no insulation under the bonnet. Noisy tyres (apollo acelers). I think this tyre is very soft since I have got at least two punctures in all tyres.

1st gear is not peppy but if you rev upto 2500 rpm and upshift it is ok. MAx speed achieved so far is 150kms. Still had more juice but the road traffic did not allow higher speed. FE from 14 kms/L in B2B traffic to 21 kms/L on highway at 90-100 kms speed. RPM is just above 2000 rpm at 100kms speed. In the 6 speed it is just below 2000 rpm. Generally I get 15 to 17 kms/L since I keep the rpm at or above 2000. I drive on the NH7 from Hosur to Jigani in Bangalore to work.

Gear is accurate and smooth. First gear sometimes gets notchy. Clutch & accelerator are so smooth and soft. Clutch travel is long which I had to get used to. AC is adequate. Tested once in Chennai at 40 degC. Front cools faster but the rear takes few minutes. Considering the big cabin space it is ok. Three adults can sit more comfortably in the rear compared to the competition (swift, fiesta classic and vista, others not checked). Rear floor is flat which is convenient for the third passenger. All four power windows. No option to lower the windows if the ignition is off. No harm to have provided manual winding handles.

Ride Quality & Handling Very good to drive above 2000 rpm. You get a tug close to 2000 rpm felt more in 3, 4 & 5th gears when you floor it from 1500 rpm. Not very bad to drive in traffic either. Just not as peppy as my pulsar 180 in 1st gear.

Steering is not sharp and in my case it is not very light as expected. So far no issues so am keeping quite. No rattles so far. Third service completed at 20k kms. Diesel cartridge was not changed so bill came to Rs3000. I think they didnot have the spare.

Final Words Spacious, powerful, sturdy with good after sales service availability. Reasons why I went for this car in Hosur compared to the Swift, vista and Figo.

Areas of improvement Left front suspension noise, soft suspension makes highspeed ride uncomfortable when the road is uneven. Boat on rough sea kindda feel. Horn and lights are too weak. Planning to upgrade horn with Klaxon which I think is in the polo. Spares should not cost much since Hyundai has been in India for so long. Should have localised more.

IMO, the i20 diesel is the perfect combination of space, ASC, FE and power available for now.

Space, fit and finish, clutch, looks, powerSuspension, steering feedback, weak horn and lights

Exterior Exteriors are really good, definetly attracts everyone. Best in its segment.

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) One of the best dashboards, ODO has better color combination. Great Controls on steering like audio, blu-tooth, stereo controls are awesome. Gear change indicator is an Awesome which keeps you in correct gear for better performance. Lot of space to carry all your laguage.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Engine is under powered mainly on hilly regions. AC is not upto mark. Suspension is bad. Frequent gear changes needed mainly compared to Swift.polo etc. If you are used to gear changes you will definetly enjoy the drive. 6-speed needs frequent gear changes. i20 cars manufactured between 2010 and 2011 has steering ratteling problem, even though Hyundai knows about that they dint even bothers to fix it, which is really bad. after lot of complaints the problem got fixed for my car.

Along with that hyundai forget to set auto door lock after 40 KM/hr speed for these modles. Which is not automatically fixed. Got fixed only after raising it.

Ride Quality & Handling Ride Quality is Awesome easy to handle even at high speeds. Max sped is 180Kms/Hr.

Final Words Good car  to buy. May be little over priced due to lot of features. Servicing Costs is high.

      Free service : 5000+

      Paid Service : 7000+

cost may be more.. depends on problems and your service advisor..

      Areas of improvement

      - Can provide Better Service.

      - Should fix known problems for sold cars too which adds value to Hyundai.

       - Should Keep track of kind of service done for the car from the service center, Service advisors forcing to go for engine decarboniosing, AC cleaning etc unnessarly.

Looks, Interior Plastic, auto closing mirrors, Gear, Seat hight adjustment, Gear change indicatorUnder powered, AC is just OK, Streering rattel problem, No auto door lock until you ask for it..

I bought Hyundai i20 Sportz 2012 (I-gen) car on July 2012, on day one itself, I saw some issues in the steering, and display cluster.  I noticed some rattling noise coming from the display cluster.  Display cluster was refitted later and the noise disappeared.

Approximately 4 months later (mileage = 4490 km) rack and pinion of the steering started making noise.   After the inspection steering gear assembly replaced. Now the steering becomes better and smooth.

December  2012 (mileage = 6901 km):  The engine  started jerking  randomly, it  is so bad that  all of a sudden  the  pickup drops and  recovers  by itself shortly. It happens irrespective of what speed the car is moving.  After a month of investigation it was fixed.  I still don’t know the root cause. As per the repair slip clutch switch and neutral switches were replaced.

June 2013 (mileage=13000 km): Frequent brake failure, if you suddenly apply brake the car moves as if you have not applied the brake at all. At that instant the brake pedal rebounds and pushes your foot backwards and pedal becomes hard.  It is found out that front brake discs are wobbling and are replaced, the quality of disk material was poor.

September 2013 (mileage=15100 km): Brakes pedal again started becoming hard and braking distance increased. These issues are seen before the brake failure during June.

October 2013 (mileage=16740 km)Brake becomes too hard and after inspection booster assembly of brake was replaced.  During the replacement process crack appeared in the wind shield (who is responsible for this?) and replaced under warranty.  I was informed later.  After the replacement of brake booster, braking is better.

October 2013 (mileage=17000 km): Suspensions become stiff/hard, all sort of rattling noise started coming from the dashboard. The rattling noise started only after the replacement of the brake booster.  After visiting service station they refitted the cowl and suspension was also checked for hardness.

October 2013 (mileage=17100 km): After using the car for a day rattling noises started showing up again from the dashboard.

December 2013 (mileage=17688 km):  Took my car for the third free service (Advaith Hyundai, outer ring road, Bangalore), and they tried to fix the   rattling problem, I instructed them not to open the dash board as  this  issue   was initiated by Advaith Hyundai mission road.  After the service suspension is as good as new.

December 2013 (mileage=17927 km):  Oil started leaking from the Clutch master cylinder assembly.  After the inspection Clutch master cylinder assembly was replaced under warranty.   Dash board rattling noise still continued to show up randomly.

December 2013 (mileage=18150 km):  Display cluster started making hissing noise, which was started on the day I bought this car and was fixed later. For the last 16000 km it was silent.

In addition to this I had visited many times to the Hyundai service center for various issues like suspension noise, door noise, power window issues, poor pickup, dashboard noise etc.

If you look at the above issues major problems occurred in this car are in Steering, engine, suspension, brake and now the clutch, which are crucial for a car.   Hyundai service centers I am visiting are promptly attending and fixing the issues, during the course of repairing original quality of fitting is  not maintained  and  I am scared to drive this car, I don’t know when and what component of this car will fail.  It is nearly 18 months and so many failures are seen in this car.

I have few questions to HMIL:

Is this car really a new car?

Are components used in my car are genuine?

Is this the quality of the car you sell for Rs. 850000?

Do you people a really understand any responsibility   ?

Do you really care for the safety of your customer?

Don’t you think that this car needs replacements?

I have forwarded above thinks to Hyundai CEO, as usuall they  forward it advaith Hyundai. There are  some Hyundai people in Bangalore when contacted  they are talking as if all above issues are very common in Hyundai cars and as long as there is warranty  they will replace spares.

This is the solution from Hyundai if you face any problem in your car.

So be carefull while buying Hyundai car.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox

I purchased the vehicle in2010 and now the meter reading is 30014.Within this short period I have changed plug yoke and inner ball thrice, air bag sensor twice, clutch once and now waiting for the spare part of the ABS sensor to be replaced.

      Ride Quality & Handling

Final WordsI was using your Santro car till 2010and after that I purchased this I20.Its perfomance is far below of your Santro car. When I asked about this to your dealer in Calicut APCO HUNDAI,his reply was that the I20 car was designed as per European standard an it is not suitable for Indian roads.Frequent repairs and changing of parts has made a big hole in my pocket and now I am cursing myself for taking a decision to purchase your I20 petrol car.

Areas of improvement  Engine, suspension, air bag and ABS censors, clutch and improvement in pick up are some of the ares at present.

This car has all the features that the new generation car requires, whether it would be bluetooth connectivity or BACK CAMERA.The interior is top class, you would feel like driving a luxery with you.The foot space is much making it feels as a sedan car. The front LED in sportz catches the eyes of peoples. This car is definatiely more then other hatch back cars like Swift,Punto,Brio etc.THE bluetooth function is awesome jst sit in connect your mobile n play any song you want without coping it in to CD or USB. The sound system is Fab......one can feel the virations inside in the half range of volume. The back camera is of very useful, you do not need to turn back while taking a reverse jst look in to the mirror, also to provides a sensor technology which detects any thing in the short range ane informs the driver.

jst one draw-back the car can have is the fuel economy which is 18 on highway and 15.5 in city. But as compared to the Facilities that ist gives, definatly this factor can be made of nigligible importance because the POWER SAYS IT ALL....:-).

      Exterior

       Value for money

      Interior (Features, Space & Comfort)

       Spacious

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox

Slow response while changing gears can be dangerous while overtaking. Clutch problem esp. when driving on ghats, steering rack problem while driving barely 16000 kms. These are common problems among i10 and i20 as per various mechanics at different places.

      Ride Quality & Handling

Comfortable seating. Soft suspension, easy city driving - parking.

Poor airconditioning power makes it miserable in summer.

Dangerous to overtake other vehicles due to poor/slow response/pickup on gear change.

Boot does not lock without key - opens when door centre unlocked.

Problem of clutch while driving on ghats if you change gears frequently.

Problem of Steering Rack in driving barely 16000 kms, mostly on city roads and 1 trip Bombay-Goa and 2/3 trips to Mahableshwar + 6/7 trips to Pune, all on fairly good roads.  WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF IT IS DRIVEN ON ORDINARY INDIAN ROADS. Is this problem caused due to the soft suspension? - technical team can comment better.

Servicing at authorised service centre can be quite expensive unless you are clear at the outset.

      Final Words

Hyundai have cleverly positioned-advertised and targeted the aspiring class with an attractive car.

But with POOR BUILD QUALITY, AND UNRESPONSIVE CUSTOMER SERVICE SUPPORT that will ring the death knell for the model, the day new/prospective customers realise how "existing customers have been taken for a ride".

      Areas of improvement

All the shortcomings mentioned above MUST be worked upon, as they are all functional and not cosmetic. If these are done, it is a Value for Money proposition.

We had problems with the car starting at the time of delivery, and supply with fuel to travel 100 metres, which we took up with the company besides some of the design issues like lack of pickup on gear change,  boot being unlocked, ... But no satisfactory reply.

I'm in Chandigarh and have a SUV for highway travels. About to buy another car for city use. Swift diesel was out due to long booking period and no airbags. So the options were Fiat Punto or i20 diesel. Diesel because even this car would be doing around 2000 kms a month. Went to take test drive of Punto, convinced about the car and very well handled by the dealer. The Hyundai i20 visit was an entrely different story. Here is how the story goes.

      Dealer 1 : Charisma
I walk in and wait for a sales person to get up and one finally relents.
      Says yes sir
      "I am considering buying i20"
      Petrol or Diesel?
      "Diesel"
We dont have that and we will only get it in another 15 days and we cant deliver it you before 45 days.
"Can I have a look at the vehicle"
      No we dont have one
"Do you have a petrol one so I can have a look at the vehicle they look the same right?"
Yes and so we walk to the car I open doors and see the seats and interiors and then I open the hatch to see the boot space and the sales person bangs the hatch shut.

so I walk out that dealership and go to the other one called KLG

      YES comes the sales person.
"Im considering buying an i20. Do you have a diesel one?"
No we will get it in 15 days.
"Do you have one for test drive?"
Yes we do. Can I have your licence?
      "Here you go?"
And we go out for the test drive of the vehicle.

Sales person is not interested in telling anything about the vehicle. So I initiate talk and say I read reviews about poor performance of Ac on this thing. Is that true?
Sir in hyundai cars you get 2 things ac and pick up
"Is the new 6 year one giving better mileage thatn 5 gear one?"
So sales guy retorts "Offcourse now if there are 6 gears, it will give better mileage.
"So  i say a tractor has more gears but that does not give more mileage. The gear ratio also counts."
Meanwhile I am checking the steering which initially is as hard as my suv's steering when vehicle is switched off.
The engine makes sound like its been driven without service for 100,000 kms and its just done 6000 as per the odometer.
Then we reach the dealership, I get down and the sales guy takes and key and walks off, with no interest in knowing if I am interested at all.

So a new car that sounds like its done 100,000 kms, a steering thats as hard as a tractor and sales staff that gives 2 hoots to customer. I dont think i will ever consider going going to a Hyundai showroom, forget buying it. Imagine if they treat a prospective buyer this way what they will do after you buy the car.
So day after tomorrow we are taking delivery of Punto grande diesel Emotion pack.

i have purchased i20 magna recently.its  a real uber cool and stylish looking car in the b+ segment.interiors are spacious and classy enough to give  a stiff competition to the hondas and toyotas.gear shifts are as smooth as  one would imagine, between 3000-4500rpm its a real  pleasure to drive, fitted with an inbuilt stereo and loads of goodies like a trip computer are a real add on in this car.
on the flip side,2nd gear is a bit sluggish, taking reverse is a bit of a headache especially in tight spots and one more suggestion is to keep a little bit more distance from the vehicle ahead as you dont get the idea of its huge size.
great interiors, ride quality2nd gear a bit too sluggish
