Exterior Nothing much to write about the styling. Its Uber Cool 😎.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Packed with lots of features. The interior looks well built with good quality materials unlike the Marutis, but not up to the mark of the Germans. There are lots and lots of features like gear shift indicators, climate control. I am yet to discover all the features. The sun roof is sadly stopped for the diesel version. Would have been a better buy with that. Also, the driver arm rest is missing. If you could provide it in Getz, why not in i20?
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Excellent CRDI engine. there is a small turbo lag, but its not noticable as seen in the Verna. Great mileage. Getting almost 12 in the city and 16-17 in the highways. Gearbox could have been better. The Getz gearbox was butter smooth (I previously owned a Getz).
Ride Quality & Handling The real pain area is the high speed stability and the steering. Come on Hyundai, i20 deserved a pure hydraulic unit as seen in the Getz. The steering is very vague in high speeds and there is a mild body roll to add to it. Should have the option of a 15 inch tyres. I am planning to change the tyres to 15 inchers (Guys, does this affect the warranty?). The braking was excellent with the all 4 disc breaks and ABS.
Final Words Well, its an excellent city vehicle that does not that bad in the highways. A good family car though. Goes well with the family who does like to drive in 100-120 in highways. 140+, the vehicle feels unstable, eventhough the engine doesnt feel strained. I was in 120 in the 6th gear and the rpm was aroung 2400 only. Still in the power band. But, if you are an enthusiast who likes high speed, please go for the Punto 90HP. Its much better in the highway.
Areas of improvement It is already giving Hyundai a terrific run. 8000+ cars every month in the premium hatchback is just awesome. Addition of 15 inch tyres and a hydraulic steering can throw the Punto and polo out of the contention. Now, the Punto and Polo beats i20 only in the handling part.
Thanks
Rakesh

Hi folks
I have been a regular visitor to this website and got great help in choosing my car.
I got my lovely i20 delivered in May. This is a review of the car after completion of 1500 Km.
The car has got everything you can want from a car(Space, ABS, 6 airbags, Steering mounted audio contorls, etc etc etc). Its will and already has created a separate market for itself. The interiors are class apart. The steering is also really smooth. It has got the space, looks, comfort, luxury. The AC of the car is really amazing for this segment.
I also read some comments on the website stating the car is underpowered and has a pulling problem. I would only like to state, that pulling problem is only if you are a bad driver. The car is got adequate power. I have driven the same from Mumbai to Shirdi with 4 people, luggage and AC on and didnt find any problem even while driving up the Kasara ghats. The journey was very comfortable for all the passengers even at the rear.
I aggree it cannot be a race machine and maybe a 1400 cc larger engine will be a very good option for people who would not mind compromising on mileage for power. But for mileage concious people like me (mostly city driving) this is a great package of power & class. Initiallly (first 1000km) I used to get mileage of around 11KM in city with AC. But after which it has improved and currently am getting around 12km and expecting to improve to around 13 to 14Km in city with 75% AC after 2nd service. My friend who owns an i20 had a similar experience and now after the 2nd service is getting 13-14KM in the city. I think it is pretty neat for a car which offers good luxury and driving pleasure. The only con I feel is lack of a diesel engine and maybe its around 25K costlier.
To conclude I would say I had done a lot of research (test drove the swift which I think was the closest competitor) before buying this car and trust me could not find any car in its class offering such features and quality for around 6 lakh price tag. On the maintainence front, I am rest assured as this is my 3rd Hyundai car and only thing I spent on maintainence of previous 2 cars is a pretty reasonable AMC fee that I pay once a year to Hyundai my car is completly taken care off(servicing, oil change, etc) for the whole year without any hassels.
Any comments and clarifications are welcome from anyone who is confused on buying a car in this segment and would need any help or clarification.

Hi, I personally dont believe that I-20 is an overpriced car, please note that the additional features like Air bags, ABS, 2 din music system, steering height adjustment and moulded audio controls, rear disc breaks, higher engine displacemet 1.4L (i-20), 1.3L (swift), higher power(90 i-20 -75 swift), electric foldable mirrors, 2 tone beige interiors, alloy wheels, automatic climate control, rear wiper and washer, defogger, 60:40 split seats ( in swift full foldable), driver seat height adjustment, more boot space, all of these contribute approximately 1,75,000 rs. Ex-show room price of swift in bangalore - 496,465, where as i-20 is 683,431. The difference of 186,966 can be justifyable for the saftey and luxury it has been offering. If we say swift is an VFM, certainly i-20 is also a VFM .It has so many additional features, luxury and safety which are put in the right place, which makes the car a worth buy.If money is not a concern, then definately i would prefer i-20 Asta CRDI in the premium hatchback segment. Altough i am not a professinal in this field, i have tried to analyse few major things which were posssible from my side. please post your comments on this.
Thanking you.

In desire of getting rid of Maruti, My search started for Hyundai. Before Buying my current car "Maruti ALTO Lxi" I had plan for Santro..Maruti never appealed me. Although considering saving of some buks & Maintc cost ( we all grow, and that some buks is actually v v less now i.e.after 2yrs). ALso I never saved in Maintenance cost, as Price of Spares may be10% cheaper but quality sucks.
Getz was the prime choice. But they have dropped the production. Hard Luck. i20 dint came in picture.
Then comes UVA....test drive....some what convincing and ofcrse seemed to be BEst buy @4L on road price -delhi + expenses 10K for stereo, 5K for Remote Cntrl Lock. Advantage I found is spacious and feels better in driving. Gear shift too wide, gear postion not comfortable. Pickup not good.
Well then comes Swift (for me its last & no choice). Exterior looks- depends person to person. Interior - typical Maruti style. Grey Plastic all over, which I hate. riving comfort - better than UVA. Cooling better then UVA. Pickup again is better. Felt like I have no choice and will again get into Maruti's trap.
I fought hard with myself and decided to try lower segment.
i10 Was the next game. Road Test experience was good. Found engine good but slightly sluggish @1st gear. Power stearing was also bit sluggish but not disturbing. Cooling is Good. Drive comfort was not convincing. For metro drives (more than 1hr) I found it not very comfortable. Style is excellent, interior beautiful , Gear Shift very positive and beautiful.
Three things which it lacks is : Long drive nt v comfortable ( also depends on individual), Small Car , although space is good in its class, Not goo in absorbing shocks on uneven road. No Blame to i10 , but I was looking something else and more.
I stretched my budget by 50K and reached @ 5L budget.
NExt option came as Maruti diesel version, i20, Fabia, Logan, an some other old models.
Diesel- nt interested , Maruti - wanna avoid it , Fabia - Worried abt Maintenance and service network. Logan- not for me, If u have driver close ur eyes n buy Logan .
Driving comfort is my prime concern.
i20 is the option I wanted to Explore. My Test Drive Experience is as:
1. Feels Upper class from inside,
2. Space not a problem in fact best in its class an better than some upper segment cars.
3. Interior - very impressive.
4. Features Excellent in ite class...some upper segment class car will hide faces.
5. Engine felt much better than i10.....I dont know how ....but response was excellent and enough.
6.driving comfort - thigh support, seats, seat adjustable, stearing angle, side supports....jus amazing.
7. Shock absorbing capability on rough roads....jus excellent...YES Hyundai is better then Maruti.
8. Integrated electronic systems like MP3,digital dipaly - Good.
I found it upper class and ont want to compare it with Swift etc. This car is different and is definitely for people who want features, comfort .
9 Fuel economy , they claim higher but I know will get around 12 -13 which is ok for me.
Overall , My suggestion is If u r planning for new car 5L is budget, u r not die hard fan of maruti,
Dont read too much here...GO n Try these cars. Take Test drive and feel the difference.
Do reply after test drive I shall be waiting for your comments.
Ya one more thing I have booked this Model ; )
I know there will be lot of Maruti Fans here , No hard feelings for Maruti . But ye choice aur class ka mamla hei.
NOTE FOR people here mentioning 1.2L engine not enough for i20,I guess
they have not tried the car. Guys go n get the test drive. I tried i10
& i20. i knew the engine is same and after driving i10 had
expectation that i20 will not be that responsive.
I WAS WRONG.U will never feel that the engine is same.Excllnt engine and very refined.
ofcrse 1.3 will make it sporty but no complaints with 1.2L
Driving exprnce is amazing..which one'll never get in any Maruti.
Excllnt ride,gr8 feature, best sound proofing. It wins in its class and
challenges upper class.
Before booking I took 8 Test Drives to clear all my doubts. I suggest you to go for at least 3 test drives (with gap of 2 days for same model) for any car u wanna buy.
