mid compact segment redefined !!! the luxuries & power of big cars now in compact cars. the new I-10 delievers on its promises.
our family owns 8 cars at present & we've owned most succesful compact cars like santro, indica, wagon -r, swift & now I-10. we've owned 2-3 models of each of the above cars. we've also had honda city zx & corolla. of all the mid-segmnt cars, we've felt santro very was best so far. indica had lots of maintainance costs & broke down quite oftn. swift guzzles up petrol like a army tank. wagon-r has little better fuel efficiency than santro but is very cramped for space & lacked driving pleasure with poor gear transmission. whereas santro had good space, powerful manoevuring for gd driving pleasure & a satisfactory fuel economy.
with I-10, evrythg's improved, the interiors r in class of big sedans, the new power steering & gear transmissn are just a little behind the honda's & corolla's. the car is spacious enf for 5 person to sit comfortably evn whn the front seats r fully stretched back. the new engine is very smooth & noiseless. the ERA model has cost me 4,17,191 on road in ahmedabad. i got a loan for 3 lakhs for 3 yrs with 36 EMI of 9480 from HDFC being a preferred customer & an additional discount of 2000 for bookg thru them. i took 32% premium discount in insurance & 1500 voluntary discount for letting go claims below rs 5000. tht way the car cost me 4.59 lakhs with interest, process fees, insurace & RTO, without any accessories.
its premature to say abt mileage, coz the true mileage is chkd only aftr the first service, but i drove approx 265 kms in 21 litres of petrol with ac on, which works out to 12.5/ltr, considering highly congusted ahmedabad city driving & driving around by many members of the family. my santro gives me 11.5 in similar conditions. but ths car has tubeless tyres, new engine & after 1st service, i expect ths mileage to pick upto 14 somethg..hyundai has said its mileage is apprx 2 kms more than santro.
i hv covered most parts of my experience to give a indepth review. i m sure it will b very helpfull to everybody.
great style, awesome driving pleasure, beautiful interiors & lots of spacenone so far to me.. mileage can b mentioned aftr 1st service.Exterior/Styles

after my all studies about cars finally i like this car. i seen all the car around 5 lacs but the latest engine, interiors and exteriors, fuel economy wins my heart in i10 kappa. dont go for old 1.1 engine. 1.2 kappa engine gives good mileage and power. i have seen all the small car gives almost same average around 11-13 as per traffic conditions and on highways if you run on one continues speed then only you get very good mileage.
i seen santro ( old engine and old look cost 4l) ,wagon R duo ( engine made for petrol but converted to lpg gives high maintanace after 2-3yrs. for dedicated lpg engine you can think.cost 4l), maruti A-star ( less boot and head space cost 4l ), spark (its a good car but safty wise i am not happy. i think you have to scarp it after normal collision cost 3.5), i20 ( just arrived its going to improve suerly, cost 5.5l), tata indica saffire ( show me any 3-4 year old indica and compare it with any old maruti or hyundai car, you will get your answer. colour, ouside metal, interiors, engine noise , maintanace all gets sucks in indica. tata motors are for trucks not for cars, ask any expert or travel agent. cost 4.5l) U-VA (very nice car but less average cost 4.8l).Exterior/Styles

Hi.. Posting this in Feb 2012.. Driven it 65k kilometers now.. Still going strong...Get a mileage of 15 kmpl non ac with 50% highway - 50% city driving..
Previous updates:
I own the i10 for 14 months and have already completed 25000 kms.
I travel for 85 kms a day and was looking for a car with good mileage, easy handling (I travel in Sakinaka traffic) and stability on highways:
I think i10 is the best petrol car in this range with. If I had the money to buy a diesel, I would go for a maruti swift though.
I got Era for 4.45 L on road. I went to buy a santro XL but my family saw the i10 and we couldnt resist. The exterior looks are average for me (although that depends on personal choice). The more you drive this car, the more you will love the features and the interiors - the best in its class (you will always feel that you are driving a big car). Smart places to keep stuff in the doors. The gears shifted above give a lot more place to keep things such as diaries, 2 bottles, cigarate case, mobile phone... lots of space. The uplifted gears give extremely good comfort while driving for a long time. I am 5 feet 11 and even after i adjust the front seat comfortably, there's enough space to sit behind (this is more than swift).
The pick up isnt as great as the Santro in the 1st gear, but is still acceptable. From the 2nd gear its extremely peppy. There's negligible difference in driving with or without A/C in terms of pick up.
Hyundai claims that the A/C consumes 25% fuel. I got a properly tested mileage of 16 kmpl with full A/C on and full load (5 people) from Kalyan to Nasik (Poor quality highway with a Ghat). On return i almost had to drive in 2nd - 3rd gear due to bad road and traffic. By that logic this car should easily deliver a non ac mileage of 20 kmpl on a good highway.
The vehicle is extremely stable even at 125 km per hr - i've touched 150 too!!
It is excellent in terms of maneuverability in the city.
The shock absorbers are below par and that is the only negative I see. I read a user review on the same website saying that everything before the chasis and the engine towards the front is fibre, which i must admit is true. There is hardly any steel there so I always have to maintain a safe distance from the car before me. The car being so stable and zippy can make you drive faster than you should.
Other Cars that I saw:
Maruti Swift Petrol - Good features, Decent interiors (though grey/black), Good looks, Low mileage, Poor Pick Up
Maruti Swift Diesel - Excellent Pickup, Excellent Fuel Economy with all features of petrol. Only negative - Was too expensive for me. 5.75 lacs on road!
Cars below dont stand a chance when you compare the interior looks and interior features of the i10.
Santro XL - The production of this model has stopped but some dealers who have it sell it extremely cheap.
Chevrolet Spark - Is cheap, good fuel economy but too cramped. Interiors dont stand a chance.
Zen Estilo - If you are a Maruti fan. Why not go for a swift?
Wagon R - Shakes on highway above 80 kms per hr.
Wagon R LPG - LPG is no longer cheap. My previous car was LPG converted so I know the pains. Shakes on highway above 80 kms per hr.
Alto - Too small
Indica Petrol - My family has had 3 cars from Tata before this. The only + point: Very cheap for the space it offers.
Indica Diesel - I didnt want to buy a taxi.
Good Fuel Economy, Excellent Interior looks and features, Superb Handling and stability, Good SpaceAverage Exterior looks, Stiff shock absorbers, thin/small tyres (doesnt affect the stability though)Exterior/Styles

After doing a lot of research I booked i10 magna 1.2.I exchanged my alto for an exchange bonus of 15k and also insurance of 14k is offered free. It turned out to be very good deal for me. Before booking I researched all other cars except i10.On the budget of 4to 4.5 lacs I considered Maruthi ritz,Astar,Swift, wagon R,Tata indica vista (TDI) and santro.
Ritz: Good engine ,I did not like the styling of back.
Astar: Very less Interior space.Other wise a very peppy engine and good handling.
Swift:Price factor and waiting period.
Wagon R: It seems to be bit outdated now.
Vista (TDI): Concerns over maintainance.
Santro: Good car ,Style is bit old now.
Then at last I took a test drive of i10 magna 1.2.The over all styling is good. The interiors are simply luxurious. The kappa engine is very smooth and has great pick up in initial gears. I compared feature wise with Ritz at the price point.i10 magna 1.2 had all 4 power windows ,body colured mirrors, tilt steering, very rich interiors and also got free accessories like key less entry, 3m sun films and all basic accessories like wheel cover and mud flaps.
Its week since I am driving the car. I am completely enjoying it.
The power steering and ac is simply awesome. When I stop at signals I don’t realise that the engine is on.
Mileage: At this point of time not able to measure. Will update when it does couple of thousand KMS.
I have measured the FE by the following method:
When the low fuel indicator was just on filed in around 10 liters(9.87 litres) ,set the trip meter to zero and checked the mileage till the low fuel indiactor was again on.The mileage clocked is 118 kms.118/9.87=11.95kms(Ac 30% of the time).I think its a decent mileage as most of my travel is in heavy city trafffic. My first service is still due,it may increase a bit after that.I have to check the actual mileage on a long drive.Wiil update when i do it.
Mileage update 2: This time checked the mileage with extra premium petrol.Filled 9.53ltrs,mileage got 121 kms.121/9.53=12.69km/ltr.in city drive.
Milege Update 3:I have completed my first service. This time filed in19.7liters,mileage clocked 270 kms.In that 60 kms was on high way as i went to Banglaore airport, rest of them were in city with 50% of AC.270/19.7=13.7 km/litre.I am very happy with this mileage.
Mileage Update 4:Long Drive:
After the second service i went to a Hogenekal waterfalls around 145 kms from banglaore,Total kms drived 295 in 17 litres of petrol 295/17=17.35km/litre on long drive.
For any one in the budget of 4 to 5 lacs it is the best VFM car.
Excellent styling,beige interiors,very good engine.Nothing found stillExterior/Styles

I Bought a company fitted CNG i10 magna from a Hyundai showroom in west delhi, and only after 2 years, my car caught fire while I was driving. I was very lucky to notice the fire coming in from the accelerator joint and quickly evacuated the car. Within minutes the whole car was in flames and nothing is left of the car after an hour.
The worst thing is that hyundai will never accept that this happened because of their mistakes and improper service, and the insurance company will not cover you in this case. I had to suffer a lot as I never recieved a single penny form the insurance company or hyundai, and in fact they try to run away from me, never pick up my calls, and when somebody picks it up by mistake, they dont speak to you in a good manner. I had to juggle between the hyundai showroom and the insurance company for a month and in the end i was at loss from both sides.
You can also find many similar cases on internet of company fitted cng cars from hyundai catching fire within 2-3 years of purchase, and some people have also suffered physical losses.
