 Very nicely done, true feeling of German Desgin, feels good when you get in.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox

Nothing new from engine side, I drove Patrol Varient which comes with Kappa 2 VTVT engine which you find in next generation i10 as well. Gearbox is smooth.

Ride Quality & Handling

 Good, I found this car to be grounded when on highway and comfy on bad roads.       

Final Words
If your budget is around 5 to 5.5 Lakh then compare between Honda Brio and Grand i10 and choose one.
This Car should be considered for two reasons 1) good Diesel engine car 2) German Design.
Hyundai has very good service network and after sales support.

 If you are considering Partrol as fuel option then only design is new for you but for Diesel both design and engine are new.

Exterior Superb look, Best back side design and nice colors

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Space is very good and loads with ton of features which you wont find in other cars of this segament like swift. Rear ac vents and bluetooth connectivity is first in this segment car and it also have 1 gb of internal memory to store your fav tracks.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox 16kmpl in city and 17kmpl in highway. Very smooth gearbox and great suspension. Engine noise is too low sometimes i need to press the accelerator in red lights to check whether my car's engine is on or not.

Ride Quality & Handling Very smooth and comfortable. Handling and controls including breaks is awesum.

Final Words If u want a car for the family of 5 you must blindly go to this one. It wont disappoint you in features milage looks or any other area.

Areas of improvement Front looks as i 10 i 20 and even grand i 10 looks the same from the front.

Purchased on 23 oct and travelled about 900 km. It is giving me superb milage of 16kmpl in cityFront looks

Good feature,spacious and comfortable.Awesome interior, comfortable seats for long drive.2-DIN music system with CD/MP3 player, USB port,AUX-in and speaker.Powerful AC,Power window,adjusting steering coloum,rear boot opener and fuel filler, a smart key and push-button start and parking sensor.

 Pick up is little bit slow, Handling is superb.Seems to be ok for indian road with decent millage.

 A good and decent car for small and mid family with great value for money.Till know no problem and feeling good with ride, quality and handling.Thanks to Hyundai for getting me my perfect car which i was searching for.

More color option is lacking. Dull seat color is to be replaced. Save guard for frond side bumper should be there for unwanted scratches.Optional accessories is not available in the market...

Exterior is simply superb and catches every eye and perfect looking hatch back

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Pretty Satisfactory/ AC Vents are well positioned/ Good Start/Stop button. I have been wondering where did the Hyundai design team found so much interior space which the Maruthi Swift Team missed to find. Rear seating is pretty decent for average built 3 adults.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Engine performance for a 1.1L capacity is good, cant expect a performance of 1.2 or 1.3L engine. Seems feul economy is around 19kms (expecting better mileage after first and the 2nd service) Gear Box shift is the best.

Ride Quality & Handling Gives driving pleasure for sure. I have driven a few 100 kms, touched 130kms without any noise or engine overhead. Decent Suspension. Final Words- Overall I felt that this is the car that I have been waiting for. Defnitely value for money and would love to drive this amazing discovery which is exactly placed in between i10 and i20.

I am looking forward for the mileage once the 1st or 2nd service is done. If it proves to be anything more than 22kmpl, then am pretty sure that this car is a super hit model in Hyundai

Areas of improvement Should have had Optional variant in Sportz too. ABS is missing/ Alloy Wheels in this variant was a definite miss(other models sportz variant comes with alloy wheels) For god sake stop this rigid head rest, its good for nothing. Seat quality could have been much better.

First of all, i wish to inform intent of review. I took a test drive of Grand for around 5-6 kms. My intent was to purchase a car (top model with airbags, ABS, alloy wheels), so i took test drive of more cars as well.

In very short, if you are OK with interior color scheme of car and don't wish to read a lenghty review further, there is no better car in market. Go and buy it.. Simple!

First the 'Cons': The only thing i didn't like is the black-beize color scheme where black is very dominant. I would have liked if there was more use and beize and less or no use of black. If you disbelieve me, compare it against i10 (not grand) higher versions which look so nice with pleasing beize color scheme. Also, compare it against Brio higher models which looks like a eye candy while Grand looks dull and too dark, even boot tray is black color in Grand. Beize interiors are my personal taste, if you are OK with color scheme of black-beize, go for it.

Exterior Exterior are good looking specially from back, very nice from sides and above average from front. Polo and Swift still leads the class in exteriors (my opinion only). Polo looks pleasing from all angles while Swift look best from sides and back!

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Grand i10 has best featurs in class,nothing comes close. I am not mentioning the list which you can easily find out, i am considering Asta (O) variant only which is fully loaded.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox

VS competition:

VW Polo: I took a test drive of Polo 1.2 petrol which felt sluggish due to 3 cylinder engine so rejected first. Why no 4 cylinder engne? Indians are really cheap and go after cheap things so VW discontinued its best variant - 1.6 litre due to poor sales.

Honda Brio: Brio has best engine in this class with best weight to power ratio. Impressed with test drive but rejected due to 2 reasons: Impractically small boot space and smaller wheel base results in not-so-good handling on bad roads (more vertical movement).

i20 1.2L: While everything is great, engine lacks punch with lowest weight to power ratio. Rejected.

Swift: Top models of Swift are most serious competition any day. I simply didn't consider it for 2 reasons: 1) It is too common on road  2) All black interiors.

Fabia: Didn't consider it since it has least ground clearance in-class and don't wish to experience after sales suppoprt of Skoda.

i10 (not grand): While it is good, i am looking for slightly bigger/spacious. i10 is too small for my taste.

Etios Liva: Cheapness all over and don't vislualize as my family car. Toyota: Are you listening?

Sedan - Etios: Took a test drive since I also considered it. Engine was nice and smooth but again cost cutting and cheapness is very much evident. During test drive, instrument panel in middle of dashboard looks like a dummy, I felt like it is unreal on a test drive car, just blue and colored stickers. I asked the toyota person accompanying me if this is real, he told me it look very nice at night in blue light. It was really very cheap! Later, i discovered another reason for not buying it - Looks like safety and stability for highway speed has been compromised because Toyota used a lot of plastic and tin in making this car. Can someone believe that Honda Brio (Hatch) and Toyota Etios (Sedan) weight the same (both top variants)? Find it yourself... Shame on you Toyota!

Grand has very nice petrol engine with lot of power and smooth gear box. I am impressed!

Ride Quality & Handling Better than most of competition and no complaints here. You will be pleased! Hyundai has provided ABS on top variants but could have considered EBD also!

Final Words This is the most serious competition for other cars in this class. Nice and smooth engine, gearbox, suspension is nicely tuned and this car has best in-class features.

Areas of improvement  

1) Needs better color scheme for interiors, make it 2 tone beige and i will buy it (top model) same day!

2) Carwale site lists 'Middle rear seat' having 3 point safety belt on Asta(O) variant while showroom people told me that it is not true. They didn't have Asta (O) variant to show me, gave a test drive on Sportz. I beleive them (showroom people) and request Hyundai to include 3 point safety belt to middle rear seat as well. It is important to me since i use a carseat with my kid and wish to mount carseat in middle which demands 3 point belt or latch system. I know that most of cars in India don't offer this feature but someone has to initiate it since lap belts for rear passenger is really dangerous, specially for little kids!

There were no discounts in December 2013 on Grand due to supply-demand in Hyundai's favor. I could have bought it if there was some special offer. I guess that its not wise to pay full in december, better to buy in new year. I have another car in family so we can wait!

Used Car alternatives:

1) Polo 1.6L Petrol - This comes in Highline variant only (top model with airbags, ABS, alloys) and wonderful weight to power ratio with 4 cylinder 1600cc engine although FE will be slighly less. This leaves a Swift behind! If VW hasn't discontinued this variant, i would have purchased it new right away.

2) Honda Jazz - Again one of the best in class. I was not in India for long time and missed those heavy discounts which honda offered while discontinuing Jazz. The only cons in this car is middle seat comfort in rear due to shape of seat.

Post sales service needs to be badly improved in terms of visible complaints like i had in last one month from the date of booking to till date. I have lost faith in the brand and its product though i had been a loyal customer of Hyundai since long with Santro and I 10 earlier but after buying Grand I 10 Sportz Petrol i will never ever buy any Hyundai car again and will also never recommend it to anyone in my life. I am shattered and disturbed completely and need some urgent action on this as i cannot daily left my car to thier service stations as i am working and cannot spare time for such issues for which Hyundia is completely responsible.

Exterior It is good and nice designed.The color i have taken is wine red wihch is really fluidic design. The backside is very nicely designed.

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Good and seats are more comfortable.The boot space and cabin space is plus point of this vehicle. Also provided the rear ac vent which is one more plus point. You can always use this vehicle in city.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Pick up is little problem but ok on highway.The bonet is small as compare to swift which helps easy ride in city. The engine noise is more in case disel car.

Ride Quality & Handling Good.the streating is good and helps in smooth driving.

Final Words Good for money. Nice City car.Go for this car if you are looking gud average and gud quality car. I had long drive of around 250km. Very smooth driving experience. Nice breaks and clutch and gear. Really value for money. And around 8 colors are avilable which is plaus point.we bought wine red which is new color.

Areas of improvement Horn is very bad. When I bought,it was working some time. Then I had replaced the new one. They should come up with Auto  mode also in disel.

2. Retractable ORVMs make it easier to drive in jam packed roads

3. Rear Deffoger and rear wipers are extremely helpful

4. Ground clearance is too less hence it becomes difficult to drive over a huge speed braker without touching from beneath

 1. Features like bluetooth connectivity, steering mounted audio control, titlable steering, adjustable seat height, electric power steering, etc makes it the best car in its segment.

2. Leg space is huge! I really wonder that how Hyundai has found out such a large leg space in a medium hatchback like this.

3. Backseats are a little small to accomodate three people comfortably.

4. Overall a comfortable car.

 

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox

 1. 1120 cc engine doesnt give enough power. I have been using Swift VDI for last 6 years and engine performance of Grand i10 is no way near to the Suzuki Swift. When you come down from gear 4 to gear 3 to overtake a vehicle; pickup and speed of Grand i10 drops considerably. Pick up of this vehicle is quite poor. Hyunda should improve this vehicle in this aspect.

2. Driven 2100 km as of now. 1500 km on highways. Mileage on highways was 19.6 kmpl whereas in city use its givin a mileage of around 14-15 kmpl (decent enough for a diesel engine).

3. Gear box is extremely smooth and its much better than that of the Suzuki Swift.

 If the pick up and engine performance would have been better I would have given 5 stars overall to this car.

Exterior Modern & fresh design, resembles i20 & i10, compact engine gives ample room inside..even better than Swift

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Feature packed hatchback.. i dont think any other hatchback comes with such brilliant fetaures at this price point.. never feels like you are inside a hatchback once you enter the car.. dashboard are dual tone..solid material quality.. space has been optimally design to give comfort and plce holders.. even the back seat is well positioned to provide great comfort to the back passengers... first time we see rear vent AC.. AC is amazingly cool and fast.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Engine is calm and peppy. You press the accelerator and it surges into power, pick up is great. Gear box is smooth (somtimes it feels little cluttered, may be because i am first time driver). Fuel economy is not tested but pre-first service mileage is not that great thou, hopefully after the first service it might gets better, sometimes you dont even realise engine is on and running. Its so smooth.

Ride Quality & Handling Very smooth ride quality, handling is fantastic, steering is responsive, when the car is running beyond 80kmphr it is fun to drive.

Final Words I think this is the most feature packed hatchback with fine tuned engine. Great quality materials used. you feel great when you ride. if you are looking for a premium hatchback.. this is the one.

Areas of improvement AC noise at higher mode, Fuel economy may be better (thou it is early for me to comment), currently getting 10-12 kmpl in city. This is my first car. waiting to see the mileage after first service. hope should get better. Bring in some saftey features.

Premium sedan like interiors, feature packed, modern design and good handlingAC makes noise when switched at 3 & 4
