I purchased my car, Getz Prime GLS mid night grey 3 weeks ago and let me tell you, I had a nightmare of the time with the dealer I brought the car from.
Anyway, Let me start of by listing the pros first and end with the cons as cons is a huge list.
Pros:
Cons:
My overall view on Getz GLS is that, it is a good car that provides you a comfortable ride but at the expense of emptying your pocket.
Secondly, the pick-up is pathetic with AC on. I dont see any difference in pick-up between a GVS 1L engine and a GLS 1.3L engine. The reason that I specifically went for a GLS 1.3 L engine is not to compromise on the pick-up while the AC on. But the whole purpose seems to be lost.
I hope this review is helps prospective Getz buyers.
Thanks for taking you time to read this review.

At 6.6 lacs on road in Bangalore this becomes overpriced. Especially when following things are missing at 6.6 lacs:
1. Rear Wash Wiper
2. Alloy Wheels
3. Tubeless Tyres
4. Front Fog Lights
5. Radio/Player
Definitely performance would be good. However a diesel hatch back is preferred along with VFM. I guess a compromise with a smaller CRDI engine for availing these (now missing) facilities would have been preferable.
Good performance, good fit and finish, decent space utilizationNot VFM, too much power for the packageExterior/Styles

I purchased this car as a second thought after initial decision on i20. Reason- first it is 1.5 L cheaper, second the space and especially the rear seat space. Incidentally I had taken test drive of i20 first and gone for it but then after test drive of Getz prime, I changed my mind.
Excellent handling especially on highways and on long drives. In city may not handle like a Swift but overall quality of gear shift, smoothness of engine is way above Swift. I have driven Swift which is owner driven which is almost of the same age as my Getz Prime but I can hear lots of rattle from all corners of the Swift. But not in Getz. Very sturdy feel. Though the initial pick up is not as peppy like Maruti cars, it is compensated by the sustained drive once you reach higher gear and speed.
I drive over Eastern Express Highway in Mumbai which has recently been punctuated with patches of retarders by MMRDA out of a stupid decision. But by Getz sails smoothly over them!!!
Only issue could be slightly lower fuel economy over competitors but I am happy with 12.5kmpl I am getting in City and about 14.5 kmpl on highways with AC ON ALL THE TIMES. I feel it is best combination of comfort and economy in a car of its class.
I am extremely happy with my decision and I would highly recommend it over Swift, Indica Vista, Fiat Palio or even Fabia which I was considering initially.
Comfortable and roomy like a Sedan, Smooth Gear shift, Noiseless driveSlightly lower fuel economy as compared to competition, fog lamp switch awkwardly placedExterior/Styles

I bought it on 22 Oct 07, today on 24 Jan 08 I have clocked 11000+ Kms.
While purchasing I considered 1. Boot Space, 2. Elegant Design, Power, Wheelbase
I am getting 16.5-17kmpl, I drive more highway, less city avg speed 80-90 km.
I like its looks, space, comfort power, Gear Shift, silent cabin, you have to tell that its a diesel
Backrest of rear seat has 3 level this gives more boot space
-----------------------------------------------------------
I feel the braking could have been better.
If you hit a pot hole the disc bends a bit, it happened twice to me, I think the the car/engine is heavier for strenght of the disc.
Headlights should be brighter.

Exterior Bit of an Indica look But with an good turning radius looks are also exceptional especially the under engine wiring are very good insulated than that of SWIFT.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Features are very much average as it doesnot have bluetooth support, but yeah wat an class interior front panel it has...the plastic quality is good, A/c average cooling, Comfort guaranteed for an average 6 foot & above person both in driving & rest seating space. 5 person comfortably sits in it. seat quality is excellent not experienced any sort of backaches on travelling long routes. Overall Good Impressive Interior & build quality.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Well wat to say for Hyundais 1500cc diesel CRDI engine I've...very responsive, excellent built up quality, low engine sound, comfortable to drive both on highways & city roads, best pickup-the car picks up the acceleration very quick enough...,Gearbox is sweet & very smooth compared to INDICA VISTA, SWIFT & ETIOS LIVA., Well I've driving my getz for last 3yrs & covered 51000kms & u'll be shocked to know despite of not so good mileage on petrol version. this CRDI diesel version gives me around 20km/litre, rmember despite of 1500cc engine I'm getting this average as can u believe an 1500cc engine on an hatchback & still gives an 19 of average. just love it.
Ride Quality & Handling Ride Quality is good as suspension are heavy & good built, Gives smooth rides on damp roads, a very impressive ride quality. Handling is very smooth as compared to INDICA's Car responds well to slow down speed from even on 150 to 160...The best known fact is that car doesnt bulges or vibrates & doesnt create engine noise even on speed of 175 to 180. A fantastic to drive on GHAT ROADS as you can experience the pickup of the car on the ghat roads clearly stunning performance.
Final Words Still I couldnot why HYUNDAI discontinued this car despite they should have cut the price instead. But still an best fuel economy car with an excellent pickup in its class, maintanance wise ok not so higher in maintanance, a vey rugged 1500cc engine, very good performance & built up qualty on indian roads, most spacious compact hatchbacks, good ground clearance, interior quality excelent, wirings & engine quality after services very good. Just go for this car.
Areas of improvement I think Hyundai should look out for their service centers to improve their services.
Good fuel economy despite of 1500cc engine, Excellent Interiors, Superb Build Quality, Good PickupService Centers, & Y dis car has been discontinued!!!Exterior/Styles

I started researching the hatchbacks (Not small cars, never even had a thought of owning one)
Due to some reason I wanted to go for Swift before I sat in it.. This was merely based on reviews and friend's suggestions.
I testdrove the ZXI version and the VDI.. Good that the dealer said their waiting time is 1-2 months.. which made me look for other options. My immediate option was Chevy U-VA. The nearest showroom was sundaram motors. The car is good.. I felt it little under powered.. AC was good though. I was worried about service,, as GM has very less service centers and that too in Major cities.
Jumped to DSC Hyundai where I found the car designed for me.. Immediately after getting into the driver's seat I felt as if I am in a luxuary sedan.. The thud of the door reflected the premium factor. I tested both 1.1 and 1.3 for 20-30 Kms each. (I had a friend at DSC) and felt 1.3 would be optimum for me.
I covered 4000 Kms till date, the car is a superb and quiet performer, german quality, I wished there is an option of driver seat height adjust (not a problem at all, seats are very comfortable). Clutch feels very soft, gearshift - awesome, Swift does not even come closer to this.. Drive is very smooth, can take on bad roads very easily. My friend always complains of his Swift VXI being bumpier and stiff.
I am very greatfull to the Maruthi dealer, who said a minimum waiting period of 45 days for ZXI.. Swift feels cheap, both in front and rear seats.. Mileage is not much different between the petrol versions of Swift and Getz prime.. I am getting an average of 12 in City traffic and 16 on Highway..

This is a follow up to my earlier review- which was written after a couple of days that i bought the car.
First- the drive felt extremely sluggish cause i was expecting the response like a santro- but if you really push the pedal when you want the pick up and lower the gear, it does respond. The great part is that when the car takes off, it make you forget the hick up on taking off. Tip- do be careful on the overtakes and when you are loaded with 3 in the back seat
A good thing is that on stop-go city drives u can keep it on 1/2 gear and do not need to keep foot on the gear a lot as the engine braking helps slowing down anyways
Second- The ride comfort is not great- its superb...esp on the city potholes which appear overnight on the bangalore roads! Just go with confidence (even when driving at night) and the car would not let you down
Drive it at above 60 (when you can!) and see the ride quality..its amazingly good..does not at all feel like a hatch, till u look at the rear view mirror:)
Third- the leg space at back is extremely great, if you compare (on carwale the specs) you would see its front and leg space is more or equal to Honda City, Verna and even at par with Skoda Octavia. Now THAT is something when you are with 5 people inside( and tall folks)! The small pockets to store things and the big dashboard come in handy many times( esp to store kids stuff). The view from the drivers seat is great- just like any big car and helps esp in the rains..
Fourth- The mileage is a little disappointing, i got around 13/14 when the service was done, later dropped to around 11-12, but then i keep the A/C on -esp the defogger. I am not sure why does it need the defogger that much as it was not the case with my earlier car in the same weather conditions.
Tips- Do take the GVS version with wider tyres, wooden finish and wheel covers- looks great
Take the extended warranty, for about 10 rs per day for the next 3 years u have peace of mind..
Take a test drive of 1.3 and 1.1 both- see if your kind of drive needs that extra power- would SURELY not if you are in a city with max speed 40-50 and occassional 60..unless you are a sporty driver- 1.1 would do..
I would have loved to have better interiors in the GLE version and maybe wheel covers and wider tyres..
Excellent on space, ride comfort is superb, v practical, great road handlingFeels sluggish (at times though), mileage is not as expected for 1.1

Exterior Good looking, brilliant european design. a almost 10/10!
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Feature list is good-A/C,power steering, power windows on all the 4 doors,5 door central locking, tilt adjustable steering wheel. Excellent space utilization, great interior room, legroom is nearly best in on par with sedans worth 7-8 lakhs and boot space of 290lts is simply great! Nice two tone interior-grey and biege (beige can get dirty soon and has to be cleaned frequently),quality of plastics used is good. steering wheel is the same as the one used in verna and feels good to grip on to. Seating comfort is excellent! the rear seat can be reclined by 15 degrees and helps on highway trips.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Even though the engine is primarily santro's, it is controlled by an ECU which is tuned for the getz and it puts out a few extra horses and newton meters(power and torque). Acceleration is good in lower gears but when it comes to roll on acc. it is reallly sluggish!!
Gearbox is smooth and the shift quality is excellent! gearing is slightly on the shorter side and 5th gear is ok with 35kms/1000rpm.(80kmph is around 2300rpm in 5th).
Fuel economy is a big letdown! in bangalore traffic, with 100% A/C the best possible mileage it has returned is 10kmpl! and with the A/C off, it increases by 1.5kmpl! thats really poor! On the highway, at speeds upto 100kmph with A/C the FE is 17kmpl. good! All the above mentioned FE figures are with regular 87octane gasoline.
Ride Quality & Handling Ride quality is just amazing! no issues whatsoever! handling is good if not excellent.
Final Words At 441860 OTR bangalore, it is a great buy but the major concern is the FE in city! Not a car recommended if one is a spirited driving enthusiast.
Areas of improvement None except the FE in the city (especially for an engine as small as that).
