Exterior Cute Europian looks. Didn't like the looks of the Swift much with those bulges in the back. Comparitively, Getz looks like a European chic 😎
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Excellent space and the plastic quality is excellent. Even after 3 years and 45000kms, not even a single rattle from the vehicle. The back seat can easily accomodate 3 people. The BIG boot plus 60-40 split in the rear seat offers great flexibility. It has Helped me to even shift my house😊. The A/C is also excellent. The thick A pillars means that you have to be carefull while negotiating sharp turns.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox As said, the engine is well tuned. you can't even make out if the engine is on/ off. Many people have told that the 1.3 engine is not as peppy as the Swift engine. Yes, this engine is not for enthuisiasts, but for people who prefer smooth pick up and a bit of hig speed driving. The fuel economy in the cities is on the lower side. I am consistenty getting 9-9.5 only in the city with A/C. But the short gearing also means that the highway mileage is also limited to 14-14.5 with A/C. But overall I am happy as the highway mileage quoted is at speeds in excess of 100. Well, i drive fast in the highways. The gearbox needs a special mention. It is butter smooth and the short throws means shifting gears in the city is never a pain.
Ride Quality & Handling The vehicle has very stable even at 150+ speeds. You never know that you have hit a speed of 150-160 unless until you look at the speedo. But the brakes, eventhough inspires confident, you should prefer the GLX version with ABS. I had met with an accident once in the highway when a Sumo came out of the cut road and came straight into the 3rd track of the Chennai-Bangalore highway and I was in about 100-110. ABS would have helped in avoiding the collition. It was just a minor collision with a minor leak in the radiator and a small dent in the bumper and bonnet.
Final Words Excellent city car and a very good car for family. Highway performance is also not that bad. Again, the gearbix requires special mention.
Areas of improvement Even-though the model is stopped by Hyundai, I still like the design of the Getz than the i20. Airbag should have been optional at-least.
Gear box is butter smooth, Excellent interiors, good space for 3 in the backFuel economy with A/C in the city is just 9-9.5Exterior/Styles

Hi All,
I have been using Getz 1.1 GLE for the last one year. here are my observations -
1 Comfort - Good leg space and good boot space
2 Ride Quality - Best in class. The weight of the car prevents it from being jumping jack on the road. Good Suspension system ensures pliant ride quality.
3 NVH - inititally high till such time the engine heats up (about 2 mins). post heating up the car is more or less silent. at high revs the car will give coarse noise. Engine seems to abuse you for the rough use you put it to. (after abt 3.5K RPM)
4. Mileage - in city - 12.5+ (bangalore) and highway -15KMPL - the mileage as we all know is a function of our driving style as well. some cars have slight increase or decrease in mileage if we rev the car high. In Getz if you rev it hard, you can expect mileage to go to about 10 as well. However a civilized driving will give 12+. i have consistently got it over the last one year.
5. Gearing - silky smooth gears. since the engine is essentially a re-tuned Santro ERLX engine, and the car is abut 150 KG more than the santro, the car has to be kept in the right gear. However, since the clutch is light and the gear is smooth, it is not an issue. for people who do not like to shift gears, cars with excellent bottom end torque are good like - Santro / Wagon R / Spark etc.
6. Features -like the tilt steering is good. But if there are not too many drivign the car then once you set the steering at the right level you hardle ever change it. hence good to have not must to have.
7. AC - good for BLR. however in sweltering sun, it may prove to be inadequate as other readers suggest. Cant testify for other cities.
8. Dashboard - wide and clutter free. the instrument panel is also clutter free. the dash has speedo / techo / fuel and trip meters. The good news here is that despite Getz having a beige interior, the top of the dashis grey. this is really helpful as beige dash has a high reflection on the main glass of the car.
The dash also has two air vents that are pointed towards the front two windows. when one is driving in extreme cold / moist conditions and turns the AC to the mode in which the front glass gets de-misted, the presence od air flow through the side vents to the front window glass helps to clear the front windows as well. this is very though after.
9.Pricing - cant comment. i found VFM in it. for others it is subjective.
10.Spares - this car carries a Santro engine, hence you can rest be assured of the cost of spares. it is cost effective. often the labour is more than the cost of spares.
Overall - a good car to have. it is not a drivers car for the car enthusiasts but an excellent family car. for a regular commuter like me, it is a good investment that i think i made.
My recommendation - (which Getz to chose)
Drivers Car - Getz CRDI
Family Car (eco) +Mileage - Getz 1.1
Family +Driving Pleasure - Getz 1.3
Hope this review is useful for you. Remember - with Getz, you will not make a wrong choice. Al that you need to chose is the model.
Request - Kindly rate the review so that i can get to know if this was useful to you. if there are some questions, please feel free to write.

I bought this beauty from Saini Hyundai in Kolkata on Wednesday (10th October) for 4,64,00 OTR with Keyless entry, Full anti-rust and Teflon coating, matting and a car cover. That was a steal, I tell you. The color we chose was real earth. The waiting period was about 2 months. Nowadays they have enlarged the tires and also added a rear spoiler. Once I got inside the vehicle, I thought that I was inside of a sedan. The beige interiors and wooden finishes here and there really adds to the sedan look
. Surprisingly even 4 people can squeeze in the rear seat and the boot space is huge! The ac was quite okay but it may not turn water into ice but it's more than adequate. When I started the engine, I thought I was bound to get disappointed but it turned out to be an impressive performer. It was really easy to drive and the ride quality was excellent with no engine noise. The suspensions were equally impressive. If you close your eyes, I bet that you may even forget that you are inside of a car! I suggest that people looking for a hatchback should seriously consider this. Take a test drive and see it for yourself. I will post more details and pictures soon if you guys need it!
Getz Vs. Swift
Now to get some facts straight. I was heavily in favor of the Swift but my parents rejected it due to lack of space, refinement and for the bumpier rides in the rear seat as compared to that of the Getz. Now they were in a position to see that the only thing huge difference which the Swift has, was that of the 1.3 engine but the Getz had an equally impressive space of a sedan, much much better interiors and a smooth and silky ride quality. Though it is much more fun to drive the Swift, the Getz beats Swift in regards to space and refinement. Fuel economy is more or less equal and there is no doubt that the Maruti service is still numero uno but Hyundai is not bad either. My advice is that if you are an individual go for the Swift but if you have a family, the Getz is a much better deal. Don't go for the HYPE!

I think this is the right time to post my initial experiences with new Hyundai Getz Prime. Please note that this review is purely based on only driving experience and has got no technical information/comparison of any kind. There are lots of other places to look for this information.
I got a GVS model (Deep Pearl Blue) a week back and till date I have driven 220KM.
My experiences is summarized as follows
1. Mileage
This one is interesting. I am getting an unbelievable mileage of 14.6/Litre. The reason I am saying that this is an unbelievable figure is people who are aware of Calcutta (Kolkata) city traffic conditions would understand.
Mainly I commute from my home to office which is an absolute regular drive comprising of 4 KMs up and down and the traffic is an absolute mess. If I set out from home slightly late say beyond 9 AM, you just cannot drive the car in 4th gear forget about 5th. The cars moves like a big serpent with on and off you switch between 3rd to 2nd gears and almost half of the way you keep on pressing the clutch.
In this kind of situation getting the above quoted mileage is unbelievable. I still have doubts whether my calculations are right.
One more thing to emphasize, the mileage is without AC on.
2. Power steering.
I have been driving Ambassador in early days and then Daewoo Matiz (the lowest model without Power steering). This is one of my most favorite features every time I drive my Getz. The car takes U turns which are almost always in Calcutta, like a cake walk. I never feel that I am driving<

Well, I like many others was in a dilemma to go ahead with or ward off Getz Prime because of its downsized engine. Considering the success of the eRLX engine of Santro, one would be confident, but again questions would be raised as the Getz’s body weight is actually heavier than Santro's. I had to decide, and I went ahead with Getz Prime 1.1 GVS as I am a sedate driver, and oh boy..what a nice decision it turned out to be! This car is indeed a surprise package - it really stuns you with its qualities. Its over an year now that I own this beauty. Read on..
Interiors - I fell in love with the instrument panel - the quality of plastics, ergonomically placed controls, the tachometer ..the adrenaline pumps as you lay your hands on the steering and raring to go.
Exterior looks - Chic Euro styling, nicely arranged rear lamp cluster, extended bumper which takes the scratches when loading and unloading the boot. I like the 'thud' sound when one closes the door, feels like a costly sedan.
Space - Hmm..this is the area where Getz scores high in comparison with its competitors, it has oodles of space. It’s a 5 seater in the right sense, I've actually made five persons sit in the car and personally felt it. Extremely satisfied with the ride comfort it provides.
Drive comfort - Drive quality is exceptional with easy maneuvering and silky smooth ride courtesy the superior suspensions.
AC - this is something which is keeping everyone curious, for me this is a bit of disappointment but not a complete let down. One has to remember that this is a downsized engine compared to the previous version, I don't think anyone is complaining on AC over the 1300 cc version.
Top speed - Driven at a speed of 110 kmph and it is indeed quite stable even at such high speeds. With AC the pick up is tad bit slow, but this is the with like any other car, you just need to downshift the gear, giving the race car like feeling ;)
Suspension - this is one of the most admirable quality of the car, you will fall in love with the car's suspension, one of the best in comparison with some upper segment car's as well. Silky smooth ride, more the load the better the suspension.
Gear box - Well, am not exaggerating saying that the gear box is the best amongst all hatchbacks and some sedan's too. I could shift the gears with my finger tips.
Mileage - It gives me approx 13 kmpl mostly in city conditions and 17 on highways - quite satisfactory for a car of its class.
Features - You've got a slot for virtually anything! be it mobiles, goggles, pens, coins, wallets, bottles ..whatever you give her, accepts gleefully and tucks in its tummy. It is very annoying to hold a 2 liter bottle, but here.. just thump it in the holder and it doesn’t even obstruct the rear seaters. Tilt steering is very very useful, one can adjust to his/her own comfort. Nice large plain dash board space, unlike Maruti's carving a slot in the dash to accommodate things. Illuminated glove box is a good provision. The best of all the features - Split Seats. These are very very useful in case you are carrying large cases, we carried two large suit cases to the airport, and it looked like there is still some place left ;) Also, you can access the boot from inside of the car, without having to stop the car. Very handy feature to possess. The rear seats can be reclined in three diffferent positions, quite comfortable for elders.
Personal opinion on other comparable cars in its class and reasons for leaving them out:
Swift - Even though I liked Swift for its looks and power (even though comtemporary looks are its USP, strangely this is the quality where it has scored minus points from many potential buyers) but space and interiors have disappointed me a lot. Maruti is notorious for its tacky interiors and they haven't done any better job in Swift's case too. I even heard of the door rattle complaint from many owners, not sure of it has been rectified. One more negative aspect I find in Swift is the driver's seat position - it looks as if we are deep down in a well trying hard to reach the surface. Looks and power are for Swift, and other factors are against it.
UVA - I did not consider UVA as I thought it was over priced (by atleast 20k when compared to Getz GVS) for the features on offer, for the same/less price we get better features in Getz (in basic version) like 60:40 split, tilt steering which I think are very useful features and present only in higher versions of UVA. Moreover boot space is a big set back for UVA as far as my opinion goes. And more importantly, backed off due to Chevy brand, costlier spares and maintenance factors - which I have heard quite frequently from my friends in US too. Basically, didn't want to take a gamble by opting for UVA, otherwise its a good car.
Well, these anyway are in my point of view; the final decision depends on the individual though. Features which should be incorporated in future to counter the competition from other brands - Airbags, Immobiliser, EPS, Tubeless tires, Automatic Climate Control. Upgradations - I have fixed a rear spoiler to pep up its looks, and I plan to install an arm rest when the company provides the option.
Jun 2011 - Mileage update after 4 years of ownership and 24k KM.
I have checked the mileage recently and was pleasantly surprised seeing the figures. I got a more than decent 14 kmpl with AC in city driving and around 18 kmpl on highway with intermittent AC. I have conducted the tests using the full tank method and with a driving range of about 400 kms and filling up the tank for about 4 times to check the mileage.
Space, ride comfort, drive quality, features, suspension, gear box.AC, for the price must have extra safety features for 1300 cc atleastExterior/Styles
