While searching for a car to upgrade from zen, we were looking for a good B segment premium car. Swift, Getz, Palio were under consideration. But by our requirements we thought of going with a bigger
car, second hand C Segment car to start with. Enquired with some of the famous second hand car dealers, only to find cars like Opel Corsa, Skoda Octavia, Toyota Corolla, an old Mercedes Benz etc.
What we found in common to all these is inspite of all the premium badge, they are not able to provide the rear space. The value of the car to the space inside is at the lowest among these cars. This led us to check the Honda City in the showroom. It was love at first sight, fantastic design, though subjective, but i think it is appealing to a majority. You have to sit in the rear to know the leg room that this beauty provides. My father and myself being above 6 ft tall, the ultimate test for leg room could be checked easily when we can sit front and back on the same side. Believe us, its too good and better than all the premium models that we checked earlier. Iam not able to understand what is the fun in paying a premium when you sit with your legs cramped. All the sedans in C and above segments, are generally driven by the chauffeur ( may be not in the weekends or on private travel ), where the owner is seated in the back, how can there be lesser leg and shoulder room than that of chauffeur?????
We have not even checked the newbies, fiesta and aveo due to their not so good pedigree of American cars. They are cheap on purchase but costly to run (poor mileage) and maintain (costly and not so reliable spares).
Considering the rear space, and all other inherent advantages that exist in owning a Japanese Car selected the Honda City and got it delivered in Apr 2006. I was a bit surprised that still the car is not available off the shelf and having a waiting period of 15 days depending on the colour. The new and gleaming City was used in my sister’s marriage with full of flower decoration. I definitely think that it must be envied by our relatives and friends.
The advantages that this car has can be perceived as below ( these might be subjective ),
Superb Design ( the lines may not become out of date in the near long term ).
Good fuel efficiency (both in city 12+ and highway 14+)
Fit and finish, both interiors and exteriors, are awesome.
Silky smooth engine.
Lots of rear leg room.
Great Cooling efficiency of the AC.
Good Alpine 2 DIN music system.
Promising resale value.
The negatives are,
Low Ground clearance ( you’ll get the bottom scratched frequently to speed breakers)
&nbs
p; High Price ( a solid 1 lakh costly than others such as fiesta and aveo)
Restricted number of dealership (only one dealer in Hyd, no signs of adding dealers too)
Service and spares cost you a fortune (though they are not required frequently)
&nbs
p; Highly sensitive to fuel adulteration (cost me 2k bucks to clean up the tank)
Overall to sum up, i can say that this car will be a good and noble companion to its owner for a very long time. You need to give timely service, and leave it for the car to perform to the core
Very good stylethere is nothing like to go against
