I bought a top of line PASSAT fully featured in April’13. Ever since I have had series of problems and replacement of major parts is a pain. It took a long time for VW to diagnose the problem and even longer to get the parts replaced as they had to come from Germany. They have already replaced a major electronic module.
2. Air conditioning compressor
3. Rear camera unit
4. Several connectors had to be download software and get patches several times.
While the car is in warranty these were free replacements. However the price of these parts were exorbitant. This has made the car very unreliable for me. Since very few cars have been sold, spare parts are rare and most of the support technicians are unable to diagnose . The worst case is the response from the VW senior management. Multiple letters written to the MD and support heads are never responded. I am concerned on future response from VW as well as how many more parts would have to be changed and the total cost of the ownership. I bought VW because it was a German car and VW had a reputation of quality. BTW there are no free services, each service would put you by under 30k, done every 15,000 kms. The sales person will never tell you this.
