After doing some research on Innova, XUV500 & Aria, I bought a TATA ARIA Pure 4x2 about a month back and have done about 2000 Kms.
Look and Style
Aria is a big vehicle. there are few cars which can match it's size, ex: Land Rover Range Rover, Volvo XC90 V8, Toyota Land Cruiser etc...Back side of Tata aria looks better than that of it's competitors. Height of Tata Aria is similar to that of innova(20mm less) & XUV500 but it's ride is higher and overall view from the driver's position is good. C-Pillar hinders view while driving but i think one can easily get used to it. Longer & wider than the Innova & XUV500 hence more spacious. Dashboard is designed well -uncluttered and elegant with all the necessary readings available like mileage, Trip meter and lots of warning lamps on the speedo.
Comfort: After doing several trips on & off road like dirt tracks and uneven roads, i find the car supremely comfortable even with seven adults and six kids(under 10) onboard. Bottle space in each door pocket is very useful. In the summer heat and humidity the A/C works well to keep all occupants comfortable. TATA engineers did a good job by providing A/c fan blowers on side pillars for 2nd & 3rd row seats
A few issues like noise from the A/c blower and Tailgate rattle which were present at the time of delivery were rectified in the first servicing at no cost. So far, no major issues with servicing at the dealers workshop.
Pickup for this big car weighing over 2 Tonnes is amazing. Overtaking slower vehicles on highways is quite easy but one has to press the accelerator 1-2 seconds earlier (or a little more, depending on the speed & distance of the vehicle ahead) so that the turbo sets in just when u r overtaking and you can move back to your lane well in time. Or simply downshift the gear and make sure that the engine is revving at about 1900 RPM before overtaking.
Fuel consumption of around 11.5 kmpl in city and on Highways combined would be acceptable for this car but I cannot give accurate figures as i have a habit of keeping the engine running for 5,10, even 15 mins when we stop by for refreshments, basic groceries etc. to keep all the occupants, old and young, happy.
Best Features are good ground clearance and adequately powered engine which is missing in the Innova and a little more spacious and better gearbox compared to the that of XUV500.
The front shape of XUV500 is better. Servicing is not as bad as i had heard from our long past experience of owning a Tata Sierra & Tata Estate but there is still room for improvement. TATA motors can make it better VFM vehicle to attract more buyers. But don't let it get a 'Taxi' image. Interior finish & quality of plastics could be improved further and should match those of the Innova.
Tata Motors has come a long way from the days of Tata Sierra & Estate. Aria has given good ownership experience so far.

Exterior is good BUT too it has too much ground clearance. Much of the vehicle's height is consumed by the ground clearance itself leaving little for head room;
Features are VERY GOOD but not enough for the car of this price from Tatas. Should have had 6 or 7 speed automatic gear box. Lack of power seats is disappointing. Lack of on board LCD for rear rows is a big negative. Due to central roof storage boxes, I am not sure how a roof-mounted DVD player/LCD screen can be fitted. Middle row seats must have reclining feature. Steering wheel is not very comfortable and the horn area is too much protruding and obstructing free hand movements.
I expected sliding door for the middle row (like Honda Odyssey)
Gear shift quality is not very GOOD but just about OK. Power is sufficient BUT around 160BHP and 400NM Torque would have been ideal.
Final Words At least 20% overpriced if not more; No threat to Innova nor the Fortuner.

Exterior Excellent refreshing Looks. Front Grill is now a Tata Mark, like 2 Kidneys for BMW or 4 rings for AUDI. Its not right to say that ARIA is grown up Vista or Maza.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) The comfort level is always good in Tata cars, although WINGER has more space. Aria is more spacious than even much higher priced CRV or Fortunner, or recent Hyundai Santa FE. Innova & Scorpio are no where near it. Check out length, width, cabin height (i.e. car height less ground clearnce), its highest for ARIA & Safari.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox As I mentioned in my initial review, Tata did great job in Gearbox. Engine is proven motor from Safari. Aerodyanamic front results in good mileage for this ruff tuff built heavy vehicle (earlier in small trial reveiw I thought it will be 10 KMPL or so but in longer drive it was near 15.
Ride Quality & Handling Heavy Aria, gives safety feel inside, Fortuner, Ford Endevor etc. you feel risk of vehicle overturning on sharp turns but you feel a lot safer in Aria. Try yourself.
Final Words High pricing has annoyed most of the people BUT its an intelligent effort to keep off this car from "Taxi" segment for some time, later expect cheaper versions. "Taxi" image is spoiling sales of very capable VISTA (vs Swift, Ritz, Figo, Beat etc.), MANZA (vs D Zire, Verna, City etc.), Sumo GRAND (vs Scorpio, Tavera, XYLO etc.). Tata has tried to keep this Premium pacakage for Upmarket customers. Expect New Safari soon.
Areas of improvement Lesser priced models expected after 6 months.
Features that are usually missing even in 20 Lakhs Plus cars, are in ARIAHigh Prices keep it in Exclusive 10 Lkh Plus markets

Exterior Very stylish and a posh look, looks like a rich car. Big and prestigious presence stands out in the road a sure eye catcher.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Very confi driver seat and 2nd row is good 3rd row is better than its competitors, lots of place to store things((its the must for indian fmly)), cool gauges and nice design of the dashboard switches easy to approach u dont have to take ur eye off the road to access them verymuch in reach and nicely designed.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox It has a safari 2.2L 140 bhp engine, as I own safari I can say that fuel eco I get is 14 in highway and 11 in city since aria is heavy than safari we can expect a lil drop in fuel eco, the engine is surely showing me a turbo lag. This may be because of the excess weight, but its very very silent and no vibration inside the cabin as safari dos its smooth and drives good.
Ride Quality & Handling Aria deals with pot holes very well, but dos have lot of body rolls, nice and smooth gear shift but its a longthrough gear shift, good and ez steering very smooth and effortless but not precise response from it. off roads well but too heavy for loose sand. good brakes strong enough to stop a 2.7 ton monster.
Final Words Recommended for big families who wish to experience pleasure and comfort throughout the drive. Not recommended for guys who wish to burn roads and rule off roads. ""we got SAFARI for that"
Areas of improvement Can concentrate on body rolls. surely need AT. can fit a bigger engine or a twin turbo option will be helpful. can put it on diet and reduce the weight so that it can run faster and eat less.
good looks outside, nice and intelligent idea for the interiors, lots of place inside, decent drive.turbo lag, longthrough gear shift, body rolls..

13 Lakhs and above for a Tata car??? Yea why not!I dont understand why would people mouth get so wide open.I turly feel its Tata's wish to extend thier hand in to luxury segment and they have not just limousined a safari or a indica but given a truly outstanding car.Compare Aria exterior and interior with any old generartion Safari or Indica and its obvious.Fortuner doesnt have any feauture as in Aria,Endeavour base version 4by2 is 21L on road and doesnt even give you reverse camera.By the way the trust built by Toyota, ford doesnt mean you can blindly pay 20L and above.Aria has a dedicated team and the same Trust will build up over a period of time as Tata had taken all steps to get the Car a premium feel w.r.t to performance, engine, looks and service.Well actually people love to enjoy Alien brands but not home grown Brand like Tata,Juz bcoz Tata has been liked by Taxi Men doesnt mean they got to stick on to low priced vehicles with somedecent quality.Regarding the design its a Sedan and SUV cross-over so we have to assume that its give a car like feeling(5 seater sedan and driving ease) with SUV like Ground clearance, looks and space.Idiots compare with Innova,Endeavour etc but Aria is one of its kind which nobody understands. Its not an MPV,its for the Rich man who looks for luxury. For a commoner its like buying a BMW esp from a home grown brand. For instance the X6 is just 5 seater.Aria gives tremendous comfort in front and 2nd row seats as in any sedan. The third row is just dummy coz its not an MPV and folding the 3rd row seats gives you space as much you can get a double bed there,A true SUV feel.Thats the crossover! Its a lifestyle quotient. It would have been better if there was any option for 2nd row captain seats and 3rd row sliding facility.Otherwise the drive, performance and comfort is as easy as a small car making us not worry abt its hugeness. Not everyone can afford BMW,so for people who cant its just natural to complain if and buts and bring out negatives which are not.AFFORD ARIA AND YOU WILL NOT REGRET.Tata's assurance that it used the same Dicor engine which has been serving for ages.I am gona buy it!

Exterior Tata Motors Engineering is now at par with global standards. After Manza & Vista, this is perfect product from TML.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Its spacious in 7 seater 2+2+3 set up. But with 12 Lakhs plus price tag, I think one has better options in M&M XYLO, Scorpio and within Tata Stable Safari, WINGER & Sumo Grande.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Its a proven motor from Sumo Grande & Safari. Given all 4X4, fuel economy can be on lower side. Gearbox is an area where Tata has given good attention.
Ride Quality & Handling Tata Cars always have good ride & handling. Given lesser height than Safari and same motor with 4X4, it should be a fun to drive on best to worst of Indian roads.
Final Words Pricing has really disappointed. Its 15-20% more what could have been VFM vis a vis Safari, Scorpio, Innova etc.
Areas of improvement Cut down price by 20%, 4X2 will be more fuel efficient. 4X4 should be an option.
Style, Comfort, SmoothnessPricing is too High, given "Tata" brand (Safari & Winger better VFM)

Exterior Excellent Looks. I was looking for a vehicle that should stand out in the crowd, along with Style, Grace and Ruggedness. When I am driving on road, my vehicle should say "HATA SAVAN KI GHATA". And I see that in Aria.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Perfect example of X Over. a mix of SUV & MUV. Excellent features, very well thought and sensitively designed. Has almost everything that most high end vehicles in this class dont.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Extremely responsive... Like a Volks Wagon Jetta. Fuel efficient. Very smooth gear box. Absolutely no noise inside of the engine. Option to change over to 4X4, very simple. Power packed engine.
Ride Quality & Handling Very smooth but powerful. Easy handling even in crowd.
Final Words EXCELLENT!!!
Areas of improvement Everyone has once own taste. A wheel on the back like Safari would have been great. Even the current look is fantastic!!!
Looks are fantastic!!! The "No Non Sense Look". Excellent Styling, Gr8 Fuel efficiency at this sizeThere is no end to negotiating on price... hence there would always be pressure on the same.

I bought Aria Prestige 4*4 in August 2011, as I was happy that an Indian Company has launched premium Vehicle. However, I regret to have purchased this vehicle as This has proved to be the most unreliable vehicle I have ever Come across. How? I will narrate it;
1. Within a week of purchase of Vehicle I found 2 Bridgestone tyres to have cracked from the edges(Near the Lining) in a similar fashion. Company told it is external damage.
2. Within 30 days there was a crack in the windsheild and the Company said it is an external damage I got it replaced at my own cost but It was in the work shop for 10 days.
3. Within 3 months of purchase and 6000 KM of running (I am based at Nagpur) I went to my sisters wedding from Varanasi to Kanpur and in the mid Highway the car stopped abruptly we had to leave the car to be towed to nearest workshop in Allahabad and was Informed that some nut in the Gearbox fall on the sensor and the sesor got damaged which had to be replaced.
4. It has happened for 3 times that front left side tyre got damaged after bumping on a pothole...It seems that the weight of the vehicle is a big disadvantage and on Indian roads it damages the tyres and alloy wheels very often... I have changed 7 tyres in 48000 kms of running till date...It seems that the car is not made for Indian Roads.
5. Till now power window is changed twice (though Covered within Warrantee) But you have to face inconvinience when your window is not working in the month of May with 45 degree temprature and in a City where you have gone for vacation you have to spend a whole day to get it replaced
6. My rear wiper was damaged within 3 months of purchase but the workshop could not manage to replace one as it is always out of stock.
7. I had to go to an important family function in kanpur by hiring a taxi as the Workshop people said that there is some problem in the suspension which needs to be checked when i took the car to the workshop a couple of days before the trip as I wanted it to be serviced before I take it on a long tour...Only to comeback and find that nothing wrong was found.
8. Very recently while coming from wardha to nagpur the Car bumped on a regular pothole at a speed of 30-40 kmph the tyre got burst and when I took the car to the workshop there was some problem with the alignmenet of the wheel it took 6 days to inform me that the Chasis got bent and we need to do a major work now my vehicle is in the workshop since last 18 days and i dont know when they will resolve the problem. In fact every one is surprised to learn that such a sturdy looking UV got the Chasis bent by bumping a small potholes while during the ad campaign on TV they showed that the secret agent driving the car is Jumping it. It shows how this company had been indulged in misleading ad campaing. It exposes the ethical side of tata group which had been respected for its ethical practice now for me who purchased this vehicle only because it came from Tata regret that decision.
8. To add to all wooes the customers service at the dealership/authorized centers at Tata Motor is so bad that whenever i took the vehicle (Costing 16 lacs) took it for servicing I am treated at par with the taxi drivers of Indica and sumo who bring their respective vehicles for servicing. I am made to wait for at least 1 hour before someone attend the car and It has never happened that the vehicle is delivered on time. One can see the record of service station to find that in last 24 months the vehicle has been in service centers for more than 50 days on various counts. The response is very poor yet the tata company and the Agencies are very particular about the feedbacks. The representative insist on signing a blank feedback form while giving the delivery of the vehicle. They also nag you to give 10/10 during telephonic feedbacks though many a times service is poor. very recently while I got the service at 45000 KMs and within a couple of days the Service light started blinking and message of engine system fault/restricted performace started flashing and the vehicle was also not running smoothly. I doubt that the workshop really changed the oils and filters. Till date nothing happened or I recieved any call from the company despite complaining or giving adverse feedback during a feedback call.
In fact the car is so unreliable that I do not dare to take it on long drives. In fact since last 12 years I use to take my wife and 2 daughters on trips of 2000 Kms from Nagpur to Varanasi, Kanpur, Pune, Mumbai, Kathmandu etc. by rod without any driver. I had Maruti Zen, Scorpio and esteem but all of them were more reliable and sturdy than this car.
To all the people like me who in order to opt for Indian Companies due to a feeling of nationalism are suggested to take an informed decision based on experiences of people like me.

The Aria is incredibly spacious on the inside too but then you would expect that from a big crossover. What you won’t expect is the smart, functional and modern looking dashboard. Fit and finish is a cut above the Safari and though not up there with the Innova, you won’t find much cause to complain. The seats are spacious and both front and middle row have ample head, leg and shoulder room. It’s just that the third-row passengers might complain about having less space than something like a Sumo Grande.
The design is right and the proportions even more so. It looks very attractive, looks impressively upmarket and is unmistakably a Tata. We love the sharp detailing, the neat rear and how they’ve avoided the slab sided look for something that is so tall. And, for once, the wheel and tyre package doesn’t look undersized. The smart 17-inch wheels and the 235 section tyres give it a nice, purposeful stance.
This top-end version we got is fully loaded. It’s got satellite navigation (which is quite confusing to use) and the usual bells and whistles like a CD changer, bluetooth connectivity, USB/aux-in port, a reverse camera with parking sensors, eight airbags, climate control, cruise control and for the first time in a Tata, an Electronic Stability Program. As for functionality, Tata’s given us absolutely no reason to complain. They have, get this, seven ceiling mounted cubbyholes and though we struggled to fill them up, we’re sure large families won’t have a problem. The middle and third row seats are flexible and this really is a well thought out, nicely designed and attractive cabin. We didn’t like the thin rim steering wheel and the fact that your fingers easily foul with the steering mounted audio controls though.
The Aria uses the same 2.2-litre DiCOR engine as the Safari making an identical 140bhp. But, the big difference here is the engine is a lot more refined. It’s barely audible when you are cruising and impressively quiet and smooth when you’re revving it too. It performs well too with a nice long-legged gait and though there is a bit of lag, it’s easily dismissed with a downshift. The Aria doesn’t have the instant low rev responsiveness of the Innova but it does have a broader powerband.
The ride is impressive too. The Aria absorbs everything our roads throw easily. Potholes are dispatched with distant, well-damped thunks and manages to never feel lumpy or uncomfortable. If anything, it is that this absorbent ride leads to a bit of floatiness at higher speed. We also didn’t like the steering which, though well weighted, is on the vague side especially around the straight ahead position. For all other purposes the Aria handles as expected. There is a bit of body roll, but it’s not disconcertingly so and the on-demand all-wheel drive system makes it feel surprisingly surefooted. There’s also a 4x2 mode where the front axle is decoupled helping improve fuel-efficiency.
The Aria is a serious alternative to the hugely accomplished Toyota Innova. It may not have the Innova’s handling finess, it’s fit-and-finish or it’s tractability, but it’s got the better ride, has a more powerful engine, has a lot of features and looks much better. At its price of Rs 12.91lakh for the base, it is pretty good value as well.
Upmarket, good handling, great ride quality, Amazing LooksToo Pricy for TATA Product

Exterior Like "Kidney" Grill of BMW or 4 Circles of Audi, Tata cars are also having distinct Front Grill similar in all Tata Cars (except Nano & Safari). So, its immature to call ARIA a grown up Indica. Its 13 years and 2 segments ahead of the car (Indica) that laid foundation for mass Diesel cars market in India.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Tata should launch a ARIA model, with No 3rd row at all. No one complains of CRV, Nissan etc. SUVs with no 3rd row. Afraid of Multinationals.??
Just get into Toyota Fortunner, Ford Endevour etc. then into ARIA. Take data of Captiva also..Length. Width cabin space (i.e. height of vehicle less ground clearance), wheel base. You get the max in ARIA. Even in 50 Lakh plus SUVs you wont get bedroom like space.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Just check out on carwale.com yourself, what figures speak of ARIA vis a vis ccompetition,
Ride Quality & Handling Longer wheelbase, wider body, lesser height makes driving more comfortable and better handling. basic law of Physics.
Final Words The biggest mistake is done by Tata Motors Marketing is, in allowing ARIA to get compared to Innova. Innove is more comparable to XYLO, SUMO Grande, Tavera etc. (or popular Taxi segment) Similarly, Scorpio comparison with Safari is more meaningful. So every one is talking of High price of ARIA, whereas the features & gizmos in ARIA are top class, soon market will realize its VFM vs Endevour, Fortuneer, Captiva, CRV etc.
Areas of improvement Launch strip down version of ARIA, with 4X2, remove 3rd row...get price below 1 Million, for mass market.
Its best pick in above 1 Million CatagoryTata should have sub 10 Lakh (lesser featured) version for masses
