-New livery
-Focus on top speed
-Romain Dumas will pilot the car
Just a few days ago Volkswagen revealed an updated version of its ID race car that it has now prepped to beat the EV lap time at the Nurburgring. Well now the car has been spotted at the Ring in the hands of Romain Dumas testing to beat the NextEV NIO EP9’s time of 6.45.9s.
This updated ID R sports a new livery that sees it go from the matte grey scheme at Pikes Peak to a dark blue over black. It will now top out at 270kmph and for the first time sport a F1 inspired DRS and an improved energy management system for sustained high speeds that the Ring demands. The technology developed from this car is expected to find its way to Volkswagen’s road going ID machines of which the first will be the Golf inspired ID.3 hatchback.
Romain Dumas will get behind the wheel of the ID R later this summer to break the EV record at the world famous circuit.
