Tesla, the electric-car maker, has issued a recall for about 1,23,000 Model S cars built before April 2016 to fix an issue that might involve steering bolts. The company has observed ‘excessive corrosion of the part in some cold climates where a certain type of road salt is used during winters’.
The failure of the steering bolts might make it difficult to handle the car at higher speeds, but at low speeds, it will certainly require more effort to steer. No incidents related to this issue have been registered as yet and Tesla will make sure all the replacements are done in time.
The recall comes at a strategic time when the American electric-car giant is struggling to reign in the ‘manufacturing issues’ that is delaying the Model 3. With the Model 3 being expected to be the one that shoots up the volumes and brings in much needed revenues in Tesla’s books of accounts, the company might face an existential crisis soon until its maverick founder, Elon Musk, comes up with alternate plan.
