The technologically advanced team at Tesla Motors have delivered some of the finest all-electric cars in recent times. Moving a step ahead, Elon Musk, CEO, Tesla Motors, revealed on social media that the company is planning on introducing complete self-driving hardware in models such as the Model 3, Model X and the Model S. To make it a reality, the vehicles will be loaded with modern radar, eight cameras and 12 ultra-sonar sensors.
The eight surround cameras in the vehicle will not be directly visible and will cover 360-degrees with 250 metres range. Reports indicate that the sensors are capable of detecting obstacles nearly twice the distance of the earlier version. Moreover, the new on-board computer is capable of processing 40 times faster than the older generation system. However, it will take a while before the technology is actually introduced.
As the technology is in its development stage for now, the hardware lacks features like collision warning, automatic emergency braking, active cruise control and lane holding. The company has not given an exact time frame when the technology will be introduced, but it is certain that complete self-driving mode will only be offered once the company is satisfied with real time test results. They are cautious now, especially after being entangled in previous controversies surrounding incidents of fatal crashes in the past.
