Skoda India has released a teaser image of their most awaited launch of the year, the Octavia Sedan, on their official Facebook page. The teaser image is about an upcoming contest, slated to begin tomorrow, where the winners will get a chance to drive the new Octavia before anybody else does. The company is likely to unveil the new Octavia on August 9 but is likely to have the official launch sometime in October.
The car that was revealed globally on the 12th of December last year and takes its design cues from the Vision D concept while its features and underpinnings are based on the Volkswagen’s MQB platform. The new Octavia will mostly be offered with four petrol and four diesel engines.
The petrol range is expected to include a 1.4TSI in two states of tune – 120bhp and 138bhp. The bigger units include the 1.8TSI pumping 177bhp and 2.0-litre TSI for the vRS version. The diesel options are 1.6-litre TDI developing either 103bhp or 108bhp, along with 2.0-litre TDI available in 147bhp and 181bhp guise. Transmission options are expected to include two sets of manuals as well as the seven-speed DSG automatic gearbox.
The Skoda Octavia is likely to replace the Laura sedan in the Indian market and is expected to be priced in the range of Rs 14-18.5 lakh (ex-showroom). At this price range, it will compete with Chevrolet Cruze, Hyunda Elantra, Renualt Fluence and Toyota Corolla Altis.
