Renault India has found the going get tougher as the Duster sales figures take a hit over the last quarter. The Duster which turns one this month, registered little over 3,000 units in July – that is over 40 per cent dip compared to numbers of March to May when the compact SUV consistently managed over 5,000 units a month. The part of the blame does go to the lull in the auto industry, but the shock pricing of the EcoSport seems like the main reason.
The Duster has been the most successful model for Renault since its entry into the Indian market in 2011. The mini SUV has sold nearly 60,000 units in the one year of its existence, and has been the company’s lone torch bearer in an otherwise struggling line up.
The Duster currently has very few things going for it but the imminent facelift and a possible introduction of a 4x4 option might help muster some pride and improve its numbers. In a short term success perspective Renault will have to bring the prices down through promotional offers if it needs to stay within touching distance of the Ecosport.
Talking of the Ecosport, the compact crossover has propelled Ford sales figures this month. Click here to for more details.
