The Duster has been quite a success for the French carmaker, grabbing over 6,000 booking within the first week of launch. The compact five-seater SUV is priced in exactly the same segment as the Mahindra Scorpio; however, in India the aging SUV still holds as edge with the seating capacity for seven people.
Buyers in India love seater vehicles – not that the additional row is used regularly; but it is nice to know that there is extra space available when needed. This is also the reason that the Maruti Ertiga enjoys a long waiting period, while most sedans in the same price bracket are selling around 3,500 units a month. So, for all the families Indian families that live together and move together, Renault has now found a way of offering a seven seat configuration in Duster.
Renault will offer 2 jumps seats for the third row to be fit in the boot, as a dealer accessory along with others like bull-bar and extended side-steps. The third row seating will be apt kids due to restricted leg room and lesser cushioning compared to the first two rows. As these are extra seat available as accessories, the prices are not included in the ex-showroom amount and will have to be separately purchased from the dealer.
The only issue about the third row is that these seats are not ARAI approved and no information related to their safety is available as yet.
