Don’t be surprised if we tell you that Porsche's new Panamera Diesel consumes a mere 6.3litre per 100kms (about 15 kilometres per litre). Those with the moolah in place can even log on to Porsche’s website to pre-book and customise one to suit their needs. The manufacturer has promised to deliver the car in Europe in August this year but we in India will only see it in the fourth quarter of the year. This is Porsche’s second strike at the emerging diesel market in India, the first being the Cayenne’s diesel variant.
The Panamera Diesel’s 80 litre tank combined with the 15kmpl mileage gives the car a range of 1,200 kilometres in one tank-up. It has a three-litre V6 engine with a rated output of 250bhp achieved between 3,800 rpm and 4,400 rpm. The maximum torque of 550Nm is available from 1,750 rpm to 2,750 rpm. Mated to an efficient eight-speed Tiptronic S, the six-cylinder turbo diesel claims to get to 100 from 0 in 6.8 seconds, with a top speed of 242kmph. The Panamera Diesel is exclusively available with rear-wheel drive.
The interiors of the Panamera Diesel are identical to those on the petrol variant and other standard features remain. The car has been developed from the start to be a four-seater vehicle and special attention has been paid to the individual comfort of each and every occupant.
