Porsche has taken the wraps off its hot 911 GT3 RS at the Geneva Motor Show. The track-bred, street legal GT3 RS gets a new engine, is now more powerful and lighter than the outgoing model.
The matter of the heart is a bespoke 4.0-litre, flat-six engine churning out 493bhp and 480Nm of torque mated to a seven-speed PDK gearbox powering the rear wheels. Despite being a rear-wheel drive car, the acceleration numbers are terrific with 0-100kmph coming up in 3.3 seconds and 0-200kmph achieved in 10.9 seconds, phew! Porsche claims the car can do a lap around Nurbugring Nordschliefe in 7 minutes and 20 seconds.
Porsche has used all-aluminium frame (911 Turbo) with lot of weight saving materials and as a result the new GT3 RS is lighter by about 10 kg over the outgoing model. It gets a GPS lap timer that can be linked to your smartphone that can be used to compare timings with other GT3 RS drivers.
A retuned suspension, wider tracks at the front and rear help to help increase grip and roll stability. It gets roll cage as standard with sport seats based on the 918 Spyder with a six-point harness. At the front it gets 20 inch and at the rear it gets 21 inch wheels.
Porsche might opt out of launching the GT3 RS in India, sure there might be Porsche fans who would ask for it. But, it is highly unlikely that the car will be made available this year.
