Petrol and diesel prices have been hiked by Rs 0.36 and Rs 0.87 respectively. The hike in international prices of fuel have warranted an upward revision in prices of fuel in India as well.
With this revision in rates effective from today, petrol costs Rs 61.06 per litre in Delhi and diesel is priced at Rs 46.50 per litre. Petrol prices per litre in Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai are at Rs 68.13, Rs 66.39 and Rs 61.38 respectively. A litre of diesel will cost Rs 54.04 in Mumbai, Rs 48 in Chennai and Rs 50.29 in Kolkata.
Indian fuel retailers review the fuel prices every fortnight. Depending on the fluctuating global rates of fuel and the Rupee-US Dollar exchange rate, the impact of this is passed on to the consumers. Though the hike in fuel prices might upset all vehicle owners, the changes in prices are to align them with international prices and adjust them according to foreign exchange rates.
