Nissan has stopped production of the Maruti Suzuki A-Star based Pixo compact car in the UK. The Japanese carmaker will fulfil the current orders that have been placed but have stopped taking future bookings.
The Nissan Pixo is an outcome of the collaboration between Nissan and Suzuki. It was the cheapest car available in UK till the Dacia Sandero entered the market and was a good competitor to other cars in its segment. It might not have been known for its drive, comfort or performance but it was decent value for money with its low price and low running costs.
The A-star called the Alto in UK is almost the same car as the Nissan Pixo. The only feature that differentiates the two are the front grille headlight and bumper design. The engine is the same three-cylinder 996cc petrol motor which churns out 68bhp of power and 90Nm of torque. This engine is mated to a five speed manual or a four speed automatic transmission.
Nissan’s UK website has also removed the car from its line-up. Suzuki has however confirmed that it will continue to produce the Alto for other car markets. For the European markets a replacement to the Pixo is being planned but won’t hit the markets any time before 2015.
