Next Generation C-Class likely to use Renault 1.6 dCi engine

The 2014 Mercedes-Benz C-Class is expected to use the 1.6L dCi Renault engine. This mill produces produces 130bhp and 320Nm of torque.It is currently offered on top-end variant of the Megane hatchback, the Scenic MPV, the Grand Scenic MPV and the Nissan Qashqai crossover. These are all vehicles manufactured by the Renault-Nissan alliance but sold mainly in the European market. This will be the second Renault engine to power the Mercedes-Benz models with the European spec A 180 CDI already using the 1.5-liter diesel engine from Renault.

The current diesel variant of the C-Class is currently powered by the 2.2-liter diesel mill developed by Daimler. It produces 136bhp and 265Nm of torque. For the 2014 version of its luxury sedan, Mercedes has decided to adapt 1.6 dCi that Reports suggest that the German automaker intend to make significant changes to the stock dCi engine so as it install the oil burner longitudinally in the C-Class' engine bay. The 1.6L engine is expected to power only the base variant of the 2014 C-Class. The higher spec versions are expected to continue with the 2.2-litre diesel engine.

The 1.6-litre C-Class is also expected to use a manual transmission. All these measures are expected to help Mercedes-Benz price the C-Class as competitively as possible. It is unlikely that we will get this spec C-Class in India; rather this engine is likely to be offered with CLA sedan when it is launched here sometime next year. The India spec 2014 C-Class is expected to use the same set of engines as the current car.
