The latest B8 generation Volkswagen Passat has been named the 2015 European Car of the Year. Beating the likes of the new Mercedes C-Class and the Ford Mondeo, the new Passat was given the title just before the start of the Geneva Motor Show.
Having scored 340 points from a jury comprising of 58 European automotive journalists, the new Passat came out on top, ahead of the Citroen C4 Cactus and the Mercedes C-Class with 248 and 221 points respectively. The rest of the contenders included the Ford Mondeo with 203 points, Nissan Qashqai with 160 points and the BMW 2 series Active Tourer with 154 points.
Launched last year, the new Passat is now in its eighth generation and is based on Volkswagen’s flexible MQB platform. While it’s already doing quite well in Europe, there are chances of Volkswagen India contemplating it for the Indian market later this year or early next year.
