Mercedes G500 4X4² shown at Geneva

Mercedes G500 4x4² concept, on display at the Geneva Motor Show is a preview at the things to come from the German carmaker. Mercedes might still call it a concept, but it looks close to production form.

Based on the company’s more than three decade old G-Class platform, the G500 4X4² is powered by a 4.0-litre twin-turbo AMG powerplant. The engine has been retuned [FV1] to churn out 416bhp and works in tandem with a seven-speed 7G-tronic autobox with a separate transfer case and high/low ratios. This engine is also used in its faster siblings – the C63 and GT, albeit here it will work to get it to crawl to the top of a mountain than top speed on tarmac.

The vehicle looks menacingly brutal when you factor in the massive ground clearance of 450mm (that’s a lot). With an approach angle of 52 degree and departure angle of 54 degree it can make mincemeat of most off-road obstacles and crossing mountains will be a walk in the park. 

Mercedes has not decided if they want to make this brutish off-roader, but we are sure each of those limited examples will be picked up. The pricing would be as high as its exclusivity ratio and expect a sticker close to the G63 6X6. Indians, who can afford these maverick automobiles, we know you guys missed out on the longer G63 6X6. So, why not make up for that mistake and get one of this home? Well, before you ring Mercedes dealerships wait until we get more news on this one.
