Mercedes-Benz to launch limited GLA-Class Edition 1 models

The Mercedes-Benz GLA-class compact crossover that is expected in India next year has a special edition ready for its customers. Like it did with the CLA-Class, Mercedes-Benz has announced a limited run of Edition 1 models. At the time of the market launch in March 2014 there will also be an exclusive Edition 1 variant. 

The variant will be available to order from the end of November for approximately one year after the market launch, says a statement released from the company.

The exterior is based on the Urban line with simulated under guard and roof rails in chrome. Further features include bi-xenon headlamps, 19-inch AMG light-alloy wheels finished in high-gloss black, a radiator grille louvre with chrome inserts, black-painted exterior mirrors, black waistline trim strips and dark-tinted glass starting from the B-pillars. The Edition 1 will be available exclusively in the paint finishes cirrus white, orient brown metallic, mountain grey metallic and designo magno mountain grey. The special model is recognisable thanks to the "Edition 1" lettering on the front wings.

The interiors of the Edition 1 are padded up with seats upholstered in nut brown leather and Alvorada fabric with striking moccasin stitching. It also has the three-spoke multifunction sports steering wheel in leather. One can also find  stainless steel pedals, aluminium trim, special floor mats and black headlining.

Buyers can have their Mercedes-Benz GLA Edition 1 with any of the available engines: 156PS with 250Nm for GLA 200, 211 PS with 350Nm for the GLA 250, 136 PS with 300 Nm for the GLA 200 CDI and 170 PS with 350Nm for the GLA 220 CDI.

The GLA is available with the new generation of 4MATIC permanent all-wheel drive with fully variable torque distribution as an option.

The GLA shares its platform with the A-Class and CLA-Class, and shares a number of design elements from its siblings, like the angular headlights, the broadened C-pillar, the front fenders and the overall interiors layout.

The GLA-Class is one model that will make an impact in India if and when Mercedes decides to locally assemble the units here. It will be hopefully causing Audi Q3S, the BMW X1 and the Volvo V40 some sleepless nights here.
