Mercedes-Benz C-Class Estate officially revealed

Mercedes-Benz has taken the covers off the new C-Class Estate which is a roomier, more practical version of the standard C-Class.  Mercedes says the dimensions of this new model have grown considerably over the previous C-Class Estate.   

Measuring 4.7m in length, the new C-Class Estate is 96mm longer than its predecessor and boasts of a wheelbase that is extended by 80mm, at 2840mm. Going by the looks of the vehicle, only the front end design bears resemblance to the sedan version. Mercedes says the Estate is different from the B-pillar right till the rear end.    

Thanks to its bigger footprint, the new C-Class Estate features more rear legroom, shoulder room and headroom than before. The boot space, too, is now up to 490 litres with all the seats up.   

Despite the added mass, Mercedes says this new model weighs less than its predecessor. Under the hood, the Estate gets the same range of petrol and diesel engines as the C-Class sedan. Both petrol and diesel engines consist of four cylinder units with power outputs ranging from 160bhp to 333bhp. Mercedes, for the first time in this segment, is offering air suspension which helps maintain optimum balance between high ride comfort and sharp handling. 

The new C-Class Estate will go on sale globally by the end of this year. When launched, the vehicle will join the existing C-Class range. As for the Indian market, it is highly unlikely for Mercedes-Benz India to introduce the car given the virtually nonexistent demand for premium estate vehicles. The brand, however, will soon launch the latest-generation C-Class to replace the outgoing model which has been in the market for well over a couple of years now.
