A few days ago, Mercedes-Benz teased a video of the upcoming 2015 C-Class. Aiming to cash in on the momentum they have officially released a few shots of the interiors of the car’s cabin.
The interiors of the 2015 C-Class bear some of the hallmarks of the new design language but overall, it retains a familiar and quite successful design philosophy. It also boasts of semi-autonomous safety features that are typically found in the more expensive Mercedes-Benz S-Class and E-Class cars.
The new steering wheel is a three piece unit which gets a gamut of buttons, electric windows and headlight settings switches. It will be offered as standard with a seven-inch free-standing central display or an optional 8.4-inch colour monitor along with an optional head-up display and a touch-controlled pad , a feature it has borrowed from the smartphones and touchpads of today, to limit distracted driving.
The interiors get an innovative AC system that prevents fume-filled air from entering into the cabin. The new C-Class will also have a front passenger seat featuring a sensor which will disengage the passenger airbag once it detects a child seat is in place.
Other high-end features such as Active Parking Assist, Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus, Traffic Sign Assist, will also be available in the C-Class.
It is also likely the car would get a Renault sourced 1.6-litre diesel engine. This is the same engine that powers the Fluence and the Qashqai in Europe. Transmission options on offer would include a six-speed manual, a seven-speed 7G-Tronic automatic and a new nine-speed 9G-Tronic automatic. There is also a self-levelling feature in the car, which allows its height to be lowered during highway runs, in order to reduce fuel consumption and improve aerodynamics.
Mercedes-Benz says the C-Class will have a "best in class" weight and an "unparalleled" structural integrity for this segment. The generous use of aluminium in the body of the car accounts for the weight loss. Also depending on engine choice will be the possibility to order an optional airmatic air suspension which will allow the driver to choose between Comfort, ECO, Sport and Sport Plus modes.
The C-class, when released, will have to contend with the likes of the equally well-equipped Audi A4 and the BMW 3-Series.
We expect that India will be one of the first markets to get the car once it is launched. Though pricing has not been revealed Mercedes-Benz officials say it will be ‘stable’.
