Mauritius to be first export market to get Renault Kwid

For quite a while now news had been dong rounds indicating Renault’s plans to introduce its entry-level hatchback in international markets. As revealed by sources, Renault shall introduce the Kwid in Mauritius first. Although in the past, the company has exported a few units of Kwid to Sri Lanka, it would indeed begin full-fledged exports to Mauritius soon. 

Post this, the other countries to receive the new Kwid would be countries like Bhutan, Nepal and Bangladesh. Apart from this, the company would also be exporting components to Brazilian and other Latin markets. Here, the Renault Kwid is powered by a 799cc, three-cylinder DOHC petrol engine that generates about 53bhp of power and 72Nm of torque. As stated by Renault, the vehicle claims to deliver an impressive fuel efficiency figure of about 25.17 kmpl. Within the country, Kwid has reportedly managed to garnish over 85,000 bookings in under four months since launch. The company is yet to launch the much talked about 1.0-litre variant in India.  

Talking about features, the Renault Kwid in India is offered with features like black front and rear bumpers, digital instrument cluster with gear-shift indicator, driver-side ORVM, roof spoiler, steel wheels, manual steering, grey upholstery and single-tone dashboard. Additionally, it also offers media navigation pack, AC vents with chrome elements, fog lamps, optional driver airbag, front wiper with washer, central locking system, leather-wrapped steering and chrome-finished instrument cluster. However, most of these features have only been offered on higher end trims.

The Renault Kwid boasts about offering best-in-class legroom and headroom, and a boot space of about 300-litres. As for the navigations system, the Kwid is indeed the only one in its segment that offers seven-inch touchscreen display. However, the base end variant has been stripped off all features and does not offer even a power steering system. Like its success in the Indian market, the Kwid is also expected to perform well in the international markets too. Moreover, given its low price point, it is anticipated to be well accepted overseas too.
